I'm 39 years old, I've been trucking for about 3 months now and this master piece just randomly played on Pandora, I've never heard it before. Why am I emotional and full of tears?! Heard it 3 times on repeat! Keep on trucking y'all 💪🏼💪🏼❤🙏🏻
I have been a trucker now for more than three years at the age of only 39 now. But my Uncle Nelson Montz has just now shared that wondrous lyric with me. I have been indoctrinated. And I am honored that I heard the song.
So many memories when I hear this song, not one singer In country music today, can do this song with such convincing passion...Such depth and quality in Reds voice
a ture trucker just rode his phantom 309 truck to heaven my dad passed yesterday dad your job is done ride on with mom in the passenger seat your driving in heaven with jesus on your side
I heard this song a long time ago on a two-disc record album called "Truckin' On," which was a compilation of Country-Western tunes about truck drivers. The premise of this song is almost reminiscent of an old urban legend about a man and his wife who, one night, are in their car driving past a cemetery, when they see a young girl, dressed all in white and apparently in her teens, who seems to be trying to hitch a ride. The couple tells her that they'll drive her to wherever she wants to go, and she tells them to drive her to her house (of course, she tells them her address). Throughout the ride, the husband and wife get the feeling that there's something strange about this girl, but they can't quite put their fingers on it. Finally, they arrive at the girl's home. The couple get out of the car and walk up to the door while the girl remains in the car. After knocking on the door, a middle-aged man answers and they tell him that they've brought the man's daughter home, but the man says that the only daughter he ever had died years ago! The couple don't know what to make of this, until they see a picture of the girl inside the house. They insist that this is the young lady that they have outside in their car, but the owner of the house says that the girl in the photo is the daughter who died years ago. When they tell him that they picked up the girl near a cemetery, he replies that it's the same cemetery where his daughter is buried! Bewildered, the couple return to the car, only to find that the young girl has disappeared, and all that's left is a bunch of flowers that she was carrying with her when they picked her up. I think they also find a scarf which turns out to have belonged to the girl in the photograph who died years before. I once saw a movie (the title of which I don't remember) which told three supposedly "true" stories about what appeared to be supernatural incidents. One of these was a variation on the story I just mentioned, but in this version, the girl (allegedly a ghost) is standing, not near a cemetery while waiting for a ride, but on a bridge. There's also a flashback segment depicting how she came to die in the first place (in the flashback, set in the 1920s, the girl's father, a rich man, is trying to force his daughter into a marriage of convenience to a man she doesn't love, but she runs away with another young man who she DOES love, but the both of them are killed when their car accidentally runs off a bridge, which now becomes forever haunted by the spirit of the dead girl).
When he says son this old Mack will put em all in shame. reminds me my dad and pictures of him in his old Mack R600 dad still alive but I think about him and all his stories when I listen to this song
Actually,it's more of an urban legend, than fact..... have any of you heard the story of The Road Runner and Smoky the Pig? That is supposed to be a true story.
There is no such thing as a phantom rig driver that picks up people stranded on the crossroads. It was just a song. The Bible teaches to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord

PROBABLY MY ALL TIME FAVOR--RITE TRUCK DRIVIN SONG !!!
Nice! I always wanted to know how they got the idea for Large Marge in Pee-Wee's big adventure!
It hurts in my heart
When story songs really inspired you.
My dad played this song I cried so hard
My dad has it memorized he used to recite it and my brother and I grew to love it!
Big Joe is a hero even when he is a ghost. I’m not afraid of ghosts that helps people.
