Two of my all-time favorite players to watch. Used to love to see them blast passing shots past the serve-and-volleyers. Agassi was a true artist...I think he had psychic powers on his return of serve. And Chang would run down balls that 99.9999 percent of the players couldn't touch. So glad we have the video archives. Thank you Andre and Michael! 🎾🎾🎾🎾
I'm here after seeing a Agassi picture in this current outfit :short jeans, White t-shirt and those iconic Nike's. Great two players and super quality tenis. ❤❤❤
Straight sets win for Agassi who made it to semifinals before losing in four sets to Lendl. Chang won the French Open later next year as a 17 year old. Wilander won the 1988 Us Open campaign after an epic five-set drama against Lendl.
Amazing tennis match from such a jung profesional players, both very fast and incredible rallies, I wish the U.S.T.A. could have shown the whole, but any rate thanks a lot for posting this one. Wishing all the best to the U.S.T.A. for the upcoming U.S.Open 2022.
Back then nobody would have thought Chang would have won a Grand Slam Tournament before Agassi. Not to mention Agassi should have waited another three years before winning one
Agassi was only playing in 2 grand slams per year at the time. And he made the semis or finals in every grand slam he played in from 88-90. Pretty impressive for ages 18-20!
Never a dull moment when these two played each other. This was prime Agassi. Bro had the iconic hair, fresh off the Nike deal dating hella models and shit. Agassi was like an athletic rock star to me as a kid.
its amazing how far technology came in just couple of years. even if you just went back looked at us open footage from 1982 it was hard to see the ball sometimes . the difference in just just 6 years was amazing
There's footage from the 70s that looks better than this, even much older b/w footage from WWII era that is crystal clear. Don't know what you're talking about.
The problem Chang has against Agassi and Courier throughout his career. When they were on good form (and they weren't always in good form by any stretch of the imagination!) they could overpower him. Testament to Chang's tenacity that he ended up with a 12-12 head to head against Courier and a 7-15 record against Agassi.
Those kids were stunningly consistent n' competitive above all Agassi I really believe he could win d Open. He was so brilliant n' conscientious as well. As a matter of fact only Lendl perhaps Wilander (but not on hard courts) would stop him that year. Anyways Andre had gr8 run✌
This is something we will never see anymore. You have two top tennis professionals, and they are both using oversize Prince tennis rackets. In the 1980s and 1990s many tennis greats used oversized rackets including Chang, Agassi, Sabatini, Seles and others. It's unfortunate so many tennis players feel oversized rackets are only for the elderly or beginners.
wow these 2 were decades ahead of their time. Unfortunately for them the surfaces at the time massively favoured the hard hitting serve and volley players. pretty incredible for agassi to win 8 majors in this era though
Chang was the original nadal. Never quit attitude and fighting spirit. The speed and spin on his shots were similar. Only big difference was nadal was more powerful with his shots.

Agassi finnished 1988 on 3th position including 6 ATP titles and 2 GS semifinals.
Respect for an 18 year old kid!
You are talking as if 1988 just concluded yesterday and Agassi still has many years of pro tennis ahead of him! Lol
Chang was 16 yrs old too!! Crazy
That Agassi kit is iconic
Apparently the denim shorts were originally designed for John McEnroe

Agassi's fits were fire.🔥🔥
Chang 16yrs old
Agassi 18yrs old
I remember this match, it was like the changing of the guard for me. The new generation of US Tennis from McEnroe, Connors to Agassi and Chang.

@@jayteegamble definitely. But given the talent gap between the two I expected Andre to succeed before Michael. Ciao!

Full match please
I watched this match when I was at 15. Both players had almost same play styles and exactly the same rackets, Price graphite over sized 110. 🙂
again why not release the whole match???

POG - I just bought a one stripe POG racket circa mid 80s can't wait to take out out for a "spin"

My oh my... I was 12 years old in 1988😳🤣🤣... I so remember that era though...
I was 8 yo and i remeber too
Agassi backhand was so weak
