This is the best video I have found on this subject. I had a compound wrist break with surgery and a pin, into the joint, with little guidance on exercise. Post surgery 10 weeks now and struggling with gripping and closing my fist. Please share links to additional exercises. These I am able to accomplish with little discomfort.
i have the exact injury and was left with so much questions after surgery and this video was very helpful! i guess german hospitals are so understaffed that its normal to get rushed trough like this. Such a video should be the least tho. I wish everyone else here a good recovery too
How did it go? Did you get full recovery? I tore my middle finger deep flexor about 4 weeks ago waited 2 days to be sure tendon was torn. Went in for surgery. Doctor said it went well gave me very little details told me not to use my hand for 3 weeks. Right about 3 weeks I figured I could start using my hand more. Was doing something where I had to use both my hands long story short I tore it again. Got it repaired again (more invasive this time had to cut in my palm) Tomorrow I'll be done week 1 week of recovering. Was stupid the first time I guess not tearing it again! One problem has been over the last 4 weeks is when I'm just falling asleep my hand cramps or muscles suddenly contract. Not extremely hard but it's extremely painful so definitely a good bit. I'm at the point where all my fingers are getting stiff cause of not moving them for so long. But I hear I'll get full motion control back just gotta go through the slow process of a tendon healing. Gonna feel so good to have the splint off again.
@@asicsforever7077 you should Start using Tour Hand After 5/7 days After surgery (but only passive Motion!!) to prevent stiffness and Breaking it again. After 6 Weeks i had to Start with active Motion exercise. Full active use After 3 months! Full recovery at least 5/6 months up to a year. I had my Palm cut with 25+ Stitches After surgery and its important to loosen up the scar tissue. Try massaging it, later on in the Schedule do a lot of stretching. I recommend doing a lot exercices in the next year. I think my Hand healed quite well. I would say i have 95% of Original use. Sometimes its a bit Stiff and sometimes i have a sting in my scar. All in all try to stay active and educate yourself about recovery method! I wish you all the best 🍀
Look up the differnces between Active/passive flexing and stretching ! Never do Active flexing within 6 Weeks After surgery to prevent Breaking again. But passive flexing and Active stretchin should be started After 5 days. I heard if you wait more than one Week the scar tissue Forming Glues everything together which is really hard to Break up again
Damage is healing very long. There isba big risk to next dissruption after weight training. Every case is different. Contact with surgeon who performed procedure. He decides.
Able to return to driving at 10 weeks? How can people stop driving for 10 weeks? People still have to travel to work the day after surgery, so everyone drives the day after most surgeries. Please show us some videos of hand stiffness the same day someone gets a cast off of hand surgery, and then after 6 months, and 1 year, please.
Ex Athlete/coach here I was breaking a fight up between 2 of my dogs and got bit through the top of my hand and out my palm just behind the top of my middle finger knuckle by one tooth. I don’t have insurance so I’m winging it. I have a very high pain threshold but I was literally kicking my leg like crazy in the utility room because I didn’t want to scare my 2 young girls 7-9 but the pain was very intense. It’s been 8 days today and the wound is finally kinda healed still a droplet of blood on the band aid I can bend fingers but can’t close my fist completely and if I touch the spot of the wound it’s still pretty sensitive. My fingers feel kinda stiff and dry also there’s some odd sensations but not too often. I’m worried it could be a flexor tendon but hoping it’s internal inflammation or something like that ANY insight would be so appreciated. I can’t afford to go to the hospital I recently lost my insurance. I’m worried I could lose range of motion or in my hand or worse. I took some antibiotics from my nurse sister it was Doxycycline bc she didn’t have Amox culvate. Any advice, any info, any words of encouragement would be great. I hope everyone going through these similar problems heals up well. *Is it very odd for a deep puncture wound dog bite like this to still be sore and as I described even after a week. I’m a slow healer in general but I just thought I’d be further a long after 7.5 days. If there’s a email I could send a photo to I’d truly appreciate it.
how are you? I had surgery on the tendon and nerve of my thumb on the inside of my hand. I also cut the tip of my finger with the glass. Right now I can't bend the top of my thumb at all. The cut is growing slowly. the operation was on 4.8, currently it is 18.9. I have the feeling that at the point where the tendon joins, it has grown into the surrounding tissue. I hope not so. Or its just not good surgery done. i had 30 threads. I'm very afraid for the future of my finger because the thumb is the finger we use the most and I'm only 19 years old. I also did alot of work on my finger.I also do a lot of exercises for the finger, there is progress in the whole finger, I still feel tension in the channel where all the tendons pass. I'm afraid the tendons have not come off where they were sewn. I can't bend my finger. any advice, thanks.
Directly after surgery, I was finally able to bend my index finger again after a complete cut tendon. Now the next day later it's all swelled up and I can no longer bend it. I hope I didn't reinjure it. 🤞🏽
@@flaviboy3724 A month(5 weeks) after surgery, I've been going to therapy weekly and am showing improvement slowly but surely. Still can't bend the finger all the way but that's what therapy and tendon healing will hopefully solve. Good luck with yours.
@natethan2204 hey how is your finger movement now?? I had my finger operated 2 weeks ago. Still haven't been given therapy coz the wound is still healing. How is your motion with the repaired finger??
My OThas been told me that I cannot take off my splint for 6 weeks. ( will be take it off only at my appointments). I took it of twice ,because of sweating ( my skin, little bandage and the splint was wet - the material of the splint hasn't got any holes). I was careful, gentle,I didn't stretch my hand,my fingers. Today, I felt some pain in my palm and my wrist along metacarpal bones. Could be, because I took of the splint ? Or because yesterday I used the treadmill for a walk ( not run) at speed 4.00? PS: I'd like to mention that on 26.1. 2018 I had the second stage surgery of tendon flexor little finger repair. Thank you in advance for someone who could answer to my worries.
florysana, I take my splint off a few times a day, starting with week 2. As long as you keep fingers relaxed, you should be good. I do light wrist flex and tissue massage while off.
Hello out there... I injured my middle finger in 1964 in a scuffle. The finger became infected and I believe the tendon was torn. I was 19 you do the math, lol. I was in the hospital(Air Force) for approx 3wks with rehab and infection. Recently I did some manual stapling of upholstery on chairs and the finger swelled up like a bratwurst(get the picture) I have taken several corticosteroids tablets prescribed by my Dr. I also play golf which I have chosen to do despite the swelling. I also have arthritis in that area. Now I'm preparing to see a Dr for the next step. I think it will be a surgical repair(hope not). Anyone have experience with rehab and surgical repair?
snow Edosa It should still be possible I think I had injured my middle finger last year and it wouldn't go down yesterday I had my surgery and everything went well even though im in pain but it was worth it. It's never to late Good Luck
I have lacerated my fdp tendon on my pinkie finger (not sure if full or partial) and am scheduled for surgery on Monday. I haven’t lost any feeling and I feel like I can sense slight movement in the top when I try to flex it. Having done research into the recovery and levels of patent satisfaction I am honestly considering not having the procedure done. The laceration was not vastly deep. are there any major complications that could arise, not including the sacrifice of movement in my finger tip, from not going ahead with the procedure? I am 23 year old boxer and exercise is an essential part of my life - I don’t know if I can go 3 or so months without working out and am seriously having doubts over the surgery. Also, many people report scar tissue inhibiting their ability to flex the joint anyway so is it worth it? Any advice would be appreciated 👍🏻

SirVinz here hello did you get mobility in your finger. why I wonder didnt they reply. And it’s mine boggling that they would not address the issue of not being able to do these exercises because your fingers aren’t bending! ! It’s amazing no one tells you what to do when the finger doesnt bend. If the finger bends normally what’s the point of the video?...you have no problem!?
I was so lucky to have such amazing people at my local hand clinic. Obviously injuries can be depressing.
They didn’t give me a chance. 🙂❤
ThankYOU!!!

How can I to these exercisers properly if my finger is still swollen to the max after 4 weeks :I
I wish I could find a video about contracted hand surgery. I had a stroke and am going to have my tendons cut so my hand will open.
Is there any possibility or any cases that have shown significant recovery that led them to functional weight training after or within 8 weeks?
