My boyfriend , my soul mate, passed away 6 months ago unbelievably suddenly. It’s insane that someone can walk out the door one morning, and you’ll never see them again. He loved this song. He had eclectic music taste and played R.E.M. a lot. He loved this song. My favorite memories are of him and I sitting and listening to music and talking. I don’t myself connecting with many people to be honest. He and I could talk about anything for hours, even after 13 years together. This is the first time I’ve listened to this song since it happened.
😭 He had great taste. 🤗
I'm sorry. Listen to everything he loved. You will find him there.
Wishing you peace.
I am sorry for your loss....
I just got a sad mssg from my girlfriend who's husband passed away few days ago and he was a motorcyclist. I send him a few mtnhs ago Drive of R.E.M and I am goning to play it again and again.for Robin and my girlfriend.Just realize that he doesnot even know that England won!! When this album came out, I was backpacking in the Sierras with a CD player and only brought a couple CDs. I played this song, gazing into the stars while drinking single malt scotch. It was a religious experience and left an indelible mark on my psyche. It’s absolutely my favorite album

One of the best songs of R.E.M in my point of view. 😉
Agreed, the guitar solos are just seering, and the tone is to die for. I remember listening to this in the early 90's in my mom's car, and loving this above many R.E.M. tracks, even as a true life-long fan

Masterpieces are endless in time
This reminds me of better times. When my father was still alive and had a perspective in life and I, myself, was a young boy, then.
Everything has changed. Time can never be undone.
Everybody hurts, sometime. We all have different obstacles in life, but every second can be an opportunity. Doesn't have to be, but can be.
Time cannot be undone, but to proceed with life, to embrace and capture joy wherever its essence appears is to live. Learn from those we have lost. The time for life is now....not later. The small things add up.
The dude, the dudester, el duderino stay strong. Unfortunately death is part of life. Celebrate the memories and cherish time spent together.

As a Muslim from the Middle East, it is through the brilliantly crafted songs of R.E.M that I first became exposed to the greatness of Western culture. It would be interesting to hear Stipe's thoughts on those lyrics. To me it seems to suggest the kids are not free, but are given the illusion of freedom. Especially in the line - "Maybe I'll ride, maybe you walk, maybe I drive to get off, baby." In other words those really driving the direction of the world get off on their power over others, while kids are encouraged to be rebellious and rock n roll and feel free as long as they don't get in the way of the drivers.

Nobody tells you what to do, baby
Hey kids, shake a leg
Maybe you're crazy in the head, baby
Maybe you did, maybe you walked
Maybe you rocked around the clock
Tick-tock, tick-tock
Maybe I ride, maybe you walk
Maybe I drive to get off, baby
Hey kids, shake a leg
Maybe you're crazy in the head, baby
Ollie, Ollie, Ollie, Ollie, Ollie
Ollie, Ollie in come free, baby
Hey, kids, where are you?
Nobody tells you what to do, baby
Smack, crack, shack-a-lack
Tie another one to your backs, baby
Hey kids, rock and roll
Nobody tells you where to go, baby
Maybe you did, maybe you walk
Maybe you rock around the clock
Tick-tock, tick-tock
Maybe I ride, maybe you walk
Maybe I drive to get off, baby
Hey kids, where are you?
Nobody tells you what to do, baby
Hey kids, rock and roll
Nobody tells you where to go, baby

Over the years since they created their awesome music, and time passing, every one of these talented musicians, have become seasoned. Michael Stipe's voice has become so balanced. I would not object to R.E.M. mastering a "then" and "now' version of all their music, especially DRIVE. Legend!
Kurt cobain was listening to this album in his CD player when he killed himself he had it on repeat and it was playing for days when they found him
@@VNCE381 Well, I didn't know that, but appreciate the tells of Cobain, another Legend.
Hi I Recommend an Indie Song Called 'The Bond Villain' By Robert Nix
Every time I hear REM it evokes an overwhelming nostalgia of youth . . my youth.
One of the best music videos from one of the best 90's bands
Songs like this explain brilliantly why I can’t listen to the music of this generation. When I listen to it, I feel like crying but I don't know how to explain why. I simply love it. Masterpiece!
Aqui em casa ninguém ouve músicas atuais....meu filho 23 sente saudade dos anos 80 e 90...
music of this generation basically sucks!!!
@@alexpastor8582 I think they mean they can't listen to music from the generation that this song is from, because it fills them with inexplicable ennui.
Esta música es real y viene del alna
Sweet Tooth brought me here.😊
I love this song but YES sweet tooth 🦷 just replayed it funny I knew all the ly’rics
My ex-wife’s left big toenail died three weeks ago. I shouldn’t have abandoned her at the Random Things That Are Heavy factory. 36-pounder. Right on the cuticle. She’ll never forget the little thing. Samantha btw. No not my ex- she named her toenail that. Weird, huh? Hee hee. toenails. Yep.
Gnarly toe nail i bet
I'm so depressed, because i'm getting old. I remember when the Automatic For The People album was released and I heard the song Drive for the first time. I was about 8 or 9 at the time. I liked this piece very much because it is very beautiful in terms of music. Now, years later, I like it even more, because from the perspective of those almost thirty years past, it is incredibly emotional. Time flies, unfortunately. All young people think that they will never be old, that it does not concern them, because it is so distant that it is incomprehensible. Unfortunately, we age so quickly that you don't even see it, and only after 10, 20 or 30 years do we realize it.
youll be surprised to know some young people, like myself, are terrified of getting old. Some older music, especialy the type my dad likes just seem a century away from my mates music taste which makes me feel almost happy that most people dont have that type of connection with 70's, 80's and 90's music just cos they only associate themselves with the UKTOP40 rather than actual music like rem, Toto, metallica, prodigy, faithless etc. It is ok to be depressed about as theres nothing more depressing than death, but just try to enjoy to be alive in a time and place where you enjoy great music
I was much older then you when I heard this for the first time. I'm not old now :))))
I turn 40 in a little over a month. This post hit me like a truck. Getting old sucks
ahhh shit... sometimes i wish that ill die before growing old and be so much closer to death, i can feel time running out, feel so many obligations and so much "potential" going down the drain i dont know how to deal with all this shit
Que musica! O solo da guitarra é incrivel!
One of the greatest songs EVER!
Perfektion von Text, Musik und Gesang. Mehr geht nicht. Gänsehaut und Tränen ... ❤️
Bin bei Dir! 👍
Amén. Saludos
❤🎉
The 90s must have been a good decade to be a teen or in your 20s
Every decade since the 40s has been good for this.
And most of the time the kids that age didn't realize until they were older!
The Wall had came down, crime went down in most countries, there was a proliferation of Indi-music, only nerds owned a computer, Everybody communicated via Talking.
@@rokljhui864 That’s amazing. It’s the opposite now. Covid has really ruined everything. Maybe one day we can have a crowd of people surrounding REM like this music video LOL. Gotta stay hopeful. Everything is different now.
It was .... I was in my 20s .... tall, athletic, good looking .... clubbing ... and scoring .... and the music .... epic days

this brings the early 90s all back for me, great memories.
At least our musicians could play and sing, no autotune, I feel bad for money wasted on fakes
