ONCE AGAIN probably the 8th video I have watched attempting to learn how to do a double crochet stitch into a ring where the instructions right up to the part where she talks about double crochet is clear..however right after that it’s sped through unclear and I cannot FOR THE LIFE OF ME understand what the hell Has happened I’m a first time learner and getting extremely frustrated that there are no clear videos showing how to do this slow time so I can actually learn and keep up Very disappointing
I Can't tell you how many magic circle videos I've watched and could not follow. This is the most helpful I've seen and the most straightforward. Very easy to follow. Thank you!
thank you for that video you made it easy for me to begin crochet for first beginner, at first it was very difficult, from other video's until I came across yours THANK YOU!!! good luck.
I've seen alot of different ways to start the magic circle, yours have so far been the easiest for me to get to work with my man hands that hate to do delicate work lol
Hi Rebecca, Thank you for sharing this tutorial about the magic ring, it is very helpful to me. I have a question, the chain 2, do you count it as a first stitch that most of the patterns ask for? Sorry about my English, it's not my first language but I try the best I can. Thanks again!
Hi Annie. I do not count the chain 2 as a stitch. When I want a ring with 10 DC's in it, I chain 2, DC 10 and then join with a slip stitch. Hope this helps!
Out of all the videos I have watched for the magic circle , this is my favorite. I was wondering, how do you tie off the tail to keep it from unraveling?
It depends on the project. In a toy I just weave in the loose end, but for something that would be tugged more (like a hat) I will put a knot in the center to keep it in place before weaving in the loose end.
I wouldn't do more than 12 DC's in a circle, maybe 14. too many more and it will start to fold versus being a circle. to make a bigger flat circle, chain 3 make 2 DC's in each stitch around.
I'm sorry but this is most definitely not a beginner's video. A beginner's video takes its time and explains what you're doing; you don't blow through and follow up with a few tips!
Sorry Eddie! I assumed when making this video that people were comfortable with the double crochet stitch. This video is to show how to make the loop, not how to make a DC stitch. This technique is great because you're picking up stitches into a slip knot which gives you plenty of space to work in, versus trying to make 10 DC's into one stitch to start off a ring. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
ChemKnits Tutorials I know how to do DC, but not magic loop. I agree with Eddie.. sloow down! (at the beginning when you set your loop up, and start your chain...)
I tried so many magic ring with double crochet videos and this one finally clicked! I think too many "beginner" videos make it confusing by over-explaining or, paradoxically, adding steps to somehow make it easier. Yours was simple and to the point, and I was able to make a magic ring with DC stitches. Thank you!
Jennifer, I'm so sorry this wasn't more helpful. I regret not going slower with the crochet stitches themselves, I made this video for a few friends back in the day.
You're video is great I already knew how to do it I just wanted to refresh my mind and your video helped a lot. Don't listen to those buttheads leaving negative comments you did a great job on the vid.
Thanks! I do appreciate feedback because I think it has helped me make better quality videos (I shudder when I watch some of my first ones.) But positive comments like this make my day. :)
So so frustrating. Can you guys PLEASE slow it down when it gets to the actual stitch. If its a beginner's tutorial then treat me like I've never crocheted before.
Hi Emily, I'm so sorry I went fast when I did the dc's. I made this video originally to help some friends in my crochet club on how to do the loop versus the actual crochet stitches. If I were to do it over again there are a lot of changes I would make for sure!
Thank you for posting your video. I was already subscribed ( not sure when I did that lol ), but I did a random Google search and your video link came up. Anyway, I am crocheting for the first time in about 25 years and needed some brush up lessons. My Grandmother taught me when I was little and I love it. I just bought my own set of needles for the first time and THANK GOD for people like yourself on RUclips, or I'd end up with a collection of balls of wool and nothing more. LOL. Thanks again.
What do you mean when you say you twist it? I don't get that... could you show it slower... and why do you refer to a different video without a link to it - where can I find it?
Hi Julia, I am very sorry for any confusion. Here is the link to my other magic circle video: ruclips.net/video/V41BPEFoBWQ/видео.html With a single ply yarn, I sometimes will over twist it with my fingers in the same direction as the original twist so that it won't untwist too much while I'm sewing with it. Adding additional twist means that the yarn is tighter and that it is less likely to pull apart. I know that I'm not explaining this well right now, and I wish I had shown this in the video. Maybe it is time for an update.... Thanks for the feedback!
No worries, im a beginner and it worked for me . I may have to look at it again when i start but just wanted the idea of what a magic cirl was, and its pa pretty cool idea. Im going to make a slouch hat
When you close the chain with the slip stitch do you count the chain with the slip stitch in it as the first stitch in the row? or do you skip over it and start the row on the next stitch?
I think I don't count the slip stitch as a stitch. After the SS I do a chain of how many to start the next row and that counts as the beginning of st 1.
i'm primarily a knitter so I sometimes forget crochet techniques I haven't used in a while. This was perfect; it reminded me of a technique that keeps me from having a hole in my project and was clear enough to teach the technique to a person who didn't know it. My personal tutor in fiber arts (my grandma) died over 30 years ago so it's great to have this resource!
Thank you, this is the easiest ever video I have come across for the magic ring! Some are so fiddly and more confessing than helpful. Even for a beginner like me this was simple and uncomplicated :-)
I lover all your videos . You are a great teacher. You make people feel like they can at least give things a try and not feel stupid for not knowing everything. Thank you
I'm very sorry - I did make the assumption that people know how to to a double crochet stitch for this. I was mainly trying to show off the loop to get started in the round (without making a starting chain.) Maybe someday I'll refilm it slower to highlight the DC stitch more.
Hmmmm... good idea. I'll try to do some more crochet tutorials in the future. To do the next round, I chain 3 and then continue making DC stitches according to the pattern instructions. (Frequently you will increase stitches here.)

Hannah Watson thank god im also not the only one thought I would crack this in quarantine
I've seen you on each of these videos and so i know which ones aren't going to help. Thanks for speaking up.
Have you found one that works?
Oh good Lord! I am not alone on these. I've watched like almost all of them but I still don't get it.
I Can't tell you how many magic circle videos I've watched and could not follow. This is the most helpful I've seen and the most straightforward. Very easy to follow. Thank you!
Your's is the easiest explanation of a magic circle I have seen. Thank you! :)
Great tutorial! I've been crocheting for 45 years and have never seen this technique before but love it! Thanks!

Thank you. Your tutorial was super clear and simple...easy to follow. :)
omg, thank you. It actually works when I don't make a slip knot first.
That was way easier. Im glad I found this. Ive been struggling with the circle thing all morning.
Hi Rebecca,

I dont understand what you are twisting, can you please explain? Your fingers are in the way
can you help me fir make a circle with magic loop ?
Aira Khalila ,
so if I wanted to make a bigger circle do I just add more stitches I know this sounds like a daft qn but I'mnew at crocheting
I wouldn't do more than 12 DC's in a circle, maybe 14. too many more and it will start to fold versus being a circle. to make a bigger flat circle, chain 3 make 2 DC's in each stitch around.
ChemKnits Tutorials thank you very much ☺
I find it hard to tell which is the first stitch 😖
Where did she shove it in? it was a millisecond
At 3:19 I do the slip stitch to close off the circle. I didn't weave in the loose end (that broke when I pulled the circle closed. Whoops!)
I'm sorry but this is most definitely not a beginner's video. A beginner's video takes its time and explains what you're doing; you don't blow through and follow up with a few tips!

It's ok; I'm all thumbs for most things. I was hoping to find a beginner's tutorial but I guess I'm a little too far over my head in this :)
ChemKnits Tutorials I know how to do DC, but not magic loop. I agree with Eddie.. sloow down! (at the beginning when you set your loop up, and start your chain...)
ur too fast
No it not clear your too quick perhaps explain what your doing grrr!
:( so fast i only rewind and rewind, I’ll find another video, but it seems to help a lot of people, just not me
I just audibly gasped then LOL'd when you broke your tail!! 3:06 The struggle is real!!
Haha! I try to keep these videos real. ;)
I had never done that before, but right after watching your video (to refresh my memory), I did the exact same thing. Hahaha
Easiest Magic Circle technique I have ever seen! Thank you!!!
These instructions are far too quick!!! Please slow down and explain what you are doing so I can follow along.
*A square will be perfect with 12 Stitches; NOT 10. I’m just saying.*

You are so welcome! I made this video originally to help my friends in my crochet club remember how to do it after I showed them at a stitch night.
Im on the verge of giving UP I CANT FLIPPIN DO DIS MAGIC CIRCLE! Bruh I've spend like 2 hours failing on this. IM RAGEINGGGGGG
Jennifer, I'm so sorry this wasn't more helpful. I regret not going slower with the crochet stitches themselves, I made this video for a few friends back in the day.

I love this Video!!! It was so easy to learn.
I agree with most this is the easiest and best magic ring video to watch and to make and you explain very good, thank you so much!

I can’t follow any of these magic circle videos at all, starting to think I’m just thick.
Thank you, this is the easiest ever video I have come across for the magic ring! Some are so fiddly and more confessing than helpful. Even for a beginner like me this was simple and uncomplicated :-)
really well done example. Thank you
I lover all your videos . You are a great teacher. You make people feel like they can at least give things a try and not feel stupid for not knowing everything. Thank you
Thank you so much!! This is the first time that it actually works! ^^
You're welcome!
Is there a video that shows how to do a double crochet in slow motion. I am not grasping it.. they all seem to go too fast and I am a beginner. thanks
Thanks so much! All the other videos I saw used the little plastic thingy. I'm still a beginner so this was very helpful (:
I enjoyed the video and the pace. Thank you so much! I am a medium experienced crocheter.
This is the most simple technique of the magic circle I have seen. Do the first 2 chains count as the first double crochet?
Sadly, this video did not help at all. Rebecca assumes you understand how to do the double crochet because she goes WAY too fast on that part.
I'm very sorry - I did make the assumption that people know how to to a double crochet stitch for this. I was mainly trying to show off the loop to get started in the round (without making a starting chain.) Maybe someday I'll refilm it slower to highlight the DC stitch more.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials Many thanks for taking the time to reply! I will eventually figure it out - LOL
Thank you for posting. Have seen so many videos that are not helpful. This is, by far, the best!

Oh my gosh THANK you for this video! You have no idea how much of a life saver you are!
great video! out of all the demonstrations of magic circle this is by far the easiest and most clearly demonstrated method!
This was great because you took your time and showed the steps, but I would have liked to see how you continue on to another round.
Hmmmm... good idea. I'll try to do some more crochet tutorials in the future.
To do the next round, I chain 3 and then continue making DC stitches according to the pattern instructions. (Frequently you will increase stitches here.)
ChemKnits Tutorials Thanks!!
Worked! Thank you so much, I got it the first time.
Omg too fast!!!
Excellent, thankyou so much for sharing!
TO QUICK
My search is over I finally found this rather very helpful this helped me understand it,thank you!
You're very welcome!
I love your video! Thanks it's the easiest method I've found. The ones looping over the fingers are just bleh!
I'm so glad that I could help!
Thank you! This was so helpful. Great tut.
Thanks this helped so much, it’s hard for me to follow these kind of tutorials but I was able to do everything you did on the first try, thanks!
I'm so glad it was helpful!
Oh my gosh, I’ve watched several videos trying to get this. I finally got it! Thank you so much!
Glad I could help!

+jamie allen ah. did you do 6 DC's and then increase to 12 DC's in the next ring? if you don't increase then it will curl.
+jamie allen I always make sure to double my # of stitches in the next round for a flat circle
yes i did that. it curs when i connect it, thats when it curls. when i slip stitch into the 1st dh ch to connect it curls
i dont understand what im doing wrong, i never had this problem before, i been crocheting 24 years lol and never had such a simple thing like this confuse me
I like how you demonstrated the magic ring. I want to eventually make snowmen with this technique.
I love this technique for amigurumi! I filmed these videos after I showed my crochet club how to do it a few times and thought I would preserve it so it would be easy for them to find. ;)
Not very well explained 😡

Thank you!🌹😁
I'm glad I could help!
i am only to dbl crochet 6 in the ring, and as soon as i slip stitch in top of the 1st dbl to connect it, it curls up. any advice?
that is probably too few DC's to lay flat. I'm not sure what pattern you are following but usually start with 10-12.
i sent u a copy off the pattern on here up above
