The devs knew EXACTLY what they were doing by making Garchomp Cynthia’s ace. Even with Fairy types introduced, that Pokémon destroys teams. Thanks for this video, Professor!

@@WhatDoesntkillYa mean ash probably had a lot of battles with them and trained with them more than the others. Plus with the tournament and the battles it’s easy to see why he beat Cynthia. Also it’s not like she was easy he found it difficult. as for how much time elapsed we can assume that from when he got riolu from an egg up until the battle with Cynthia an entire year maybe more passed which is more than enough to train it and get it high enough level to battle.

I understand that the anime has a lower budget per episode but the battle between Palmer’s Milotic and Cynthia’s Garchomp in the Arceus movie was so beautiful.

Cynthia and her Garchomp are certainly one of the most formidable duos within the series. While it may never happen, it would be nice to see how the future sinnoh champion and her ace were during their initial journey.

@@eljordinio7647 None of his attacks are effective against garchomp. He resist his strongest move (G max wildfire) 4 times. Only way charizard can do damage is his dragon move which is close range. Garchomp is easily taking this cake.
@@eljordinio7647 Point still stands. Garchomp outspeeds charizard and one shots him with stone edge, whereas Charizard and even his G Max form dont even one shot Garchomp with dragon pulse, even if it has choice specs equipped. Garchomp is taking this win without difficulty.

Cynthia inspired Paul to have his own Garchomp, which is a Male Garchomp due to a scar on his fin, he has 3 moves that Cynthia’s Female Garchomp uses:
1: Dragon Claw
2: Stone Edge
3: a Draco Meteor

Cynthia has battled more than I thought on screen. I never watched BW fully but I knew she showed up at some point. I also forgot about her appearance in Arceus and the Jewel of Life
The Fight of Ash Vs Cynthia in Journey was very intense but kinda didn’t show off Mega Garchomp.
Oh the memories of struggling against that monster of Garchomp in diamond and pearl. Cynthia made me fall in love with the species. The fact that it took over 15 years for it to suffer an on screen loss only shows that it’s one of the most powerful Pokémon of all time. I honestly think that, besides Pikachu Cynthias garchomp would have given Leon’s Charizard the battle of its life.

@@WhatDoesntkillYa Think of Garchomp as Goku and Lucario as Gohan. Lucario just has more natural talent and latent potential.
Garchomp is the Leon's Charizard when Leon was still not introduced in the show. They're definitely matched. No one can say that Charizard is stronger than Garchomp because they haven't even battled yet, and the show specifically tells us that this is Cynthia's first Pokemon World Championship and she swept her way from the bottom to Rank 2.
@@lesterism If you actually watched the anime, you know Leon's Charizard and Ash's Pikachu are on another level. Cynthia is a distant third strongest way behind Ash and Leon. Cynthia's Garchomp was even with Iris' haxorus and needed mega evolution to beat it. It also couldn't easily beat sirfetchd resulting in it taking a lot of damage, and couldn't beat a weakened Mega Lucario that already fought a fresh Dynamax Togekiss. Leon easily beat Mega Lucario with just Mr. Rime and Dragapult, 2 base mons.

I’ll never forget Cynthia’s words too ash and Pual she foresaw herself battle one of them in the champion league ash vs Cynthia was one of the best battles of the whole anime merry Christmas as well my friend
Every once and a while I question is the hype earned for a certain fictional thing.
Cynthia and Garchomp definitely live up to it
I feel like they decided to nerf Cynthia and make defeating her believable by making Garchomp's moveset worse before the Master's Eight. *Three* Dragon type moves and a barely used Stealth Rock, all of which Lucario resists? Getting rid of Flamethrower, Dig, Brick Break and Sandstorm?
Since the battle is dictated by script, I don’t think it really mattered. It’s not like the production goes, oh well, Cynthia’s Garchomp has dig now so we are totally incapable of creating a scenario where Ash wins, so F for his goal of fighting Leon.
Even with the most powerful moveset you could think of, the result would have been the same. The moves writers pick for the battle are mainly to add drama and flashiness
Presentation matters. What anime presented was a heavily nerfed and dumbed down Cynthia. Think about it for more than five seconds and it gives the impression that in-universe, Cynthia would have easily won if she wasn’t being an idiot and messing up Garchomp’s moveset.

One of my favourite moments was when Cynthia used only garchomp to defeat 4 of paul's pokemon without taking in that much damage, it showed how strong and powerful garchomp was.

If they were going to keep Ash in the story, I would have liked to see Cynthia win that battle and then throttle Leon. But I'm glad that after 15 years, and my first generation of Pokemon, she's still recognized for her power and grace. Ash finishing his story after beating my Champion is a very fitting end for his character 😖😭

Oh yes Cynthia’s Garchomp. The powerhouse of her team. It won most of its battles and the only battle it lost was against Ash’s Mega Lucario. I remember of how it beat 3 of Paul’s Pokémon, like for real though Paul has no idea before what he was up against cause it took out 4 of his Pokémon in one hit. It took out Flint’s Infernape, despite of being able to take out two of Cynthia’s Pokémon that weren’t revealed into Journeys. Good thing Ash didn’t battle her back in the Sinnoh saga cause he wasn’t ready, it took 11 years of training to be ready. And about that final battle, that got me at a relief cause I thought Lucario wasn’t going to make it at first cause it was a tough battle but it was able to stand after taking all that damage, for real though it was a savage like Harrison’s Blaziken. Another battle it did was with Haxorus back when it was an Axew but it wasn’t an official battle cause it was test to see how much it grew. But when the real battle came along Haxorus unfortunately lost against Mega Garchomp

When I was playing Platinum back when I was in junior high long ago, I really adores Cynthia. She is a first showcased badass female champion with a frikkin dragon shark, Garchomp as her ace, and I'm a sucker for a cool dragon pokemon as well, I really like their dynamic and I kinda wish Journey tells us more about her first journey with gible as her starter rather than a short flashback, or better yet, give her a separate short story about her first journey.
Also interesting note that Garchomp never had her strongest ground attack, Earthquake, due to a possible issue in Japan itself that the move was closely tied to a natural disaster that strike the nation. Which is unfortunate because it could change the tides on some battle into her favor, but I can respect their decision to do so

cynthia and garchomp could've remained undefeated if not for the ash vs Leon must encounter in the masters 8 finals. Still my favourite trainer by a mile
Let's face it, if Ash were to go to Paldea, his "champion" Pikachu will fall to a Level 5 Lechonk just like it did Snivy
So fun to see how cerebral the fight between Ash and Cynthia in the finals tournament. But during the Lucario-Garchomp showdown, there were no more tactics employed, just pure brute strength.
Ash and Cynthia will be missed but hopefully they would still show up in special episodes in the upcoming Scarlet/Violet series
That is because both pokemon were exhausted from previous battles. Garchomp was damaged by Sirfetchd while Mega Lucario by Dmax togekiss
@@eljordinio7647 Mega Lucario was still exhausted from the battle with dmax togekiss. It used up it energy for using aura sphere spirit bomb. Even Leon and Diantha noted how it was on equal footing with Garchomp because they were both weakened from previous battles.
@@eljordinio7647 Yes and Cynthia did not use powerup on her garchomp because she had to wear down mega lucario as much as possible and regular togekiss cannot do that. Mega Garchomp would not have stood a chance against almost healthy Mega Lucario due to damage it took from the duck knight

I forgot about iris and cynthias first fight in unova!!! I had just watched the masters 8 match yesterday and seeing the fight with haxorus again after the axew really hit home. Axew got so strong

I would’ve loved to see a fight between Cynthia’s garchomp and dianthas mega Gardivoir, especially considering the fact that that Cynthia suggested having a battle with diantha after ash beat Leon

It would be cool to see Cynthia battle a trainer that has a Firgibax! It would be interesting to see who would win, if it were just Garchomp vs. Frigibax. I would love to see that fight play out. I'm sure it would be intense!
While it would have been a great battle to see Mega-Garchomp vs Mega-Lucario, I think many, including yourself, overlook the fact that at the time Garchomp faced Lucario in the masters 8 tournament all four of its moves were not very effective against the steel and fighting type Mega-Lucario. So it was a strategic decision on Cynthia's part to instead go for dynamax Togekiss and overpower Mega-Lucario.

Cynthia should get her own TV series. Would've been crazy to see how she started her journey as a young trainer. Her friendship with Flint and Volkner (as seen in the anime, they are kinda close, as both cheered for her in Masters 8), her rivalry with Palmer (in some cameos throughout anime and movies there were few battles between them shown) her encounter with Diantha and beginning of their friendship, her connections with Cyrus, Alder and others. It would be cool, because it will be a different, new story, but the same time not entirely new, when people even question whether it's the same continuity or not (like Horizons), but something deeply tied to main anime (with Ash). Also, some cameos, references and mentions that were present in main anime series here can receive bigger role and further development. Also, we can see a battle vs Ash from her point of view. And her battle vs Diantha (as they wanted a battle, but it wasn't shown), vs Tobias (if it was). And eventually her further story after battle vs Ash.

Hey Professor it's been awhile. Hope all is well with you and your family. Would love to hear your thoughts on the ending of the journey's anime, Ash's story coming to a close 💔 , and the new protagonists Liko and Roy.
Cynthia and Garchomp were so strong and undefeated that Cynthia had considered retiring because after constantly winning she didn’t think there was anyone left to beat her. I’m glad losing made her realize she still has competition. It would have sucked to know she officially retired. But after so many wins it was understandable why she considered it
As much as it is Awesome that Ash beat Cynthia, I'm still iffy on the fact that THEY NOT ONLY didn't have Garchomp Mega Evolve BUT ALSO not know at least One Ground-type Move🌏 for STAB since Ash DOES have Pikachu⚡ & Lucario⚙
I know about The Earthquake & Magnitude ban BUT there are Moves theyv'e shown after that w/c bypass it: Stomping Tantrum, Bulldoze, Earth Power (w/c Her Gastrodon just did use against Pikachu),...Not even moves like Dig, Sand Tomb, & Mud Shot
ALSO I think Infernape🔥 DESERVES a chance for redemption cause of The Moltres Episode

Her garchomp is just a beast. And I do not think it's a draw against Caitlin because even she admitted during the battle that she fears Cynthia's strong attacks. And I agree: mega Lucario would never have won against mega Garchomp.

Ah, Garchomp. The best Pokémon of a Champion (Other than Ash). I wish it would have battled Ash's Charizard, Sceptile, or Infernape, but Lucario and Sirfetch'd were ok.
I wish we had a spin-off series of Cynthia and Garchomp. Would be worth the watch. A bond that deserves more love and screentime.
Garchomp didn't go mega against Lucario because the writers needed a plausible way for Ash to win. I love Ash, but it's true.

Not only do Cynthia and Paul and Ash each get a garchomp, but when I complete Pokémon scarlet, I used my ace garchomp too
Cynthia is the only Trainer that can make Mega Garchomp faster than its normal counterpart.
I think Cynthia’s Garchomp was very cool she could’ve been a good teacher for Ash’s Gible to reach its potential and it a-bit sad Ash’s Lucario beat Her instead of Dragonite as that would’ve been its redemption from loosing to Paul’s Garchomp and can you do Ash’s Lucario next.
The issue with momanite is that garchomp hits hard especially since moves would be super effective garchomp would have won since ash used reversal we know what that does otherwise he would have lost

it's a shame they limited garchomps moveset in journeys especially for her battle against ash!! would have loved it if they made the whole garchomps vs lucario a bit more challenging!!! nevertheless i still believe that Cynthia should have won especially with ash having a new (still in training) team going up against one of the most powerful champions whose team has been around for years...

That's one of my concerns with Pokemon Journeys, to be honest. I like the series, but I feel like the Masters 8 tournament would've been better if Ash brought out his old Pokemon instead of new ones to fight the Masters 8, who are all more experienced than him.

Even if it didn’t win against a Legendary, it remains as one of the strongest Pokémon in the anime! I wish it had a Ground type move like Earth Power or Stomping Tantrum in Journeys or kept Brick Break to scrap with Mega Lucario on equal footing. That would have been so awesome.
And even though it was foreshadowed at the end of Sinnoh, a match between Mega Garchomp and Blaze Infernape would have sick as well, providing the redemption Infernape needed after an underwhelming return against Moltres.

Cynthia dynamaxing togekiss was the right option.If she didn’t lucario would have easily beat it and then it would have an advantage against garchomp who had already taken a lot of damage from togekiss.Heck the show itself even states that using dmax over mega was the best option in the recaps
It took a lot of damage from togekiss’s max moves and lost a ton of stamina from its gmax aurasphere
Yeah it did take a lot of damage from the first max airstream and it took damage from the third one while it was charging up its aurasphere,it only avoided the second max airstream

I love Cynthia's team and personality I'm though a bit sad about her match with Ash what a second missed opportunity for a worth opponent to have brought back Ash's True OG powerhouse though. A HUGE missed opportunity to bring back Ash's Chairzard. The epic possibilities that could have come from Cynthia's and then the fight with Leon. XD.
Would have been crazy if it turned out that Ash's Charizard could like gigantamax AND like mega Y evolve XD.
Cynthia's Garchomp losing to Ashes Charizard would have been the only possible way I'd have accepted her losing to Ash in a realistic way. Them both having Mega would have also made it an epic match worthy of a final battle between them.
Before Ash decided to become a really very best, Cynthia's Garchomp was unbeatable.

Imagine if they had kept Cynthia's Garchomp's previous movepool into utilization in Journeys. If they did, I don't think Dracovish, Sirfetch'd, Haxorus, or even Lucario would have had any chance in fighting the Sinnoh Queen Champ's Ace Pokemon
