IRO or Clayton is the way to go. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. I have the same ZJ 5.9 on a 4.5 IRO Lift on 33’s. Good luck with the project. Looking forward to seeing the progress!
I agree! I've got IRO long arms on my WJ and think I'm going to go the same route on this niner. Sounds like you have a sick rig! Love all the old grands! Thanks for watching!
Keep the height, clean er up, ride ser like that while you save and get the one tons ready. That way it’s a good weekend only that she’ll be down when you’re swapping the axles instead of a solid couple months. And also that way you have 2 rigs you can use
It’s actually in pretty good shape. I got a stock one a few years ago for $500 and it was rust free. The person said it kept losing coolant and thought it was a head gasket so they didn’t want to fix it. I took it home and it ended up being the small hose that goes to the water pump. It ran great but unfortunately I got into a financial pinch and had to sell it. I had one with the 4.0 also and drove it till the frame cracked. Great running Jeep’s some of the better ones made IMO
looks good man. great start for sure! welcome to the ZJ family! a few notes for ya, if that actually still has the 249 t-case, swap that thing out for a 242 or 231 asap. the 249 is juuunk. also, that does not have a sye like you mentioned, that is just a double cardan drive shaft. that being said, if your going to stick to that height and swap to long arms on the rear, you may and may not need to go to a sye. either way, get rid of that double cardan shaft. thats just one more u joint to fail out on the trail imo. good luck with the build! lmk if you have questions. been in the zj world for quite a few years.

Just a recommendation I wouldn't put my family or drive that on the road till it's completely redone that suspension is a death trap and just a risk for anyone on the road.....the person who did that should be banned from ever touching another welder or tools in general
my buddy had a 5.9 but just like 2 weeks ago he got in a bad accident with it the 5.9 front end and engine mounts were wrecked, but he was ok thankfully.

I get you're kinda nervous but we need an intro, talk to the camera at the start, tell us how you found this, why you wanted it, show some excitement. It will take your vids to another level. If it were me, I would make that a trail/beater rig since it’s already in worse shape than the wj, and keep the wj clean. Long arms, lockers, 35’s lights/winch and clean it up a bit.. that’s my plan only I’m going with an xj for my beater..
I'm going to clean it up, especially since the unibody is mostly clean, and clean up the body and interior but I think this will be more of my hardcore crawler rig that get's 1 tons and big tires first
IRO makes solid suspension systems. Have you looked into Trail Forged suspension link kits? They seem pretty cool, and they sell 1 ton steering kits too. That’ll get this poor thing’s axles un-janked, and you’ll feel a lot better. That D44 pumpkin is MASSIVE. Big tires are probably a must as a result, but you’ve done impressive work stuffing 35s on your WJ. Is that D44 an aluminum case like the WJ?
I think I'm going to start with the rear and put in a IRO 4 Link like I have on my WJ. That should clean up most of it, and then I can start on the front. Probably go Trail Forged steering like on my WJ also. The pumpkin does look huge! I think it's because the gas tank doesn't cover it as much as it does on the WJ. Need a tank tuck on the dub! And it's supposed to be the same aluminum 44A case I believe
I like the idea of smaller lift and 33’s… If they’re Rusty’s arms I’d reuse what you got and just fill in the missing parts of the kit with the actual brackets, upper arms. Etc. + get your steering squared away, I can only imaging how bad the death wobble would be on that. Either that or just trailer it to the trail and have fun with it as is.
I think fix the lift and put on some 35s. Small lift with some take-offs would be nice to get it going for now. And an off topic question.. how do you like your led headlights in your WJ? I have the same housings and I'm just wondering how the LEDs are in them
@@OverlandingOzarks if you have the means now, I recommend you jump to Rubi or 1-ton axle swap right away. Based on your meticulous approach, IRO long arm is the only way to go. The VIC that’s blinking is a common thing. They all do it. Means nothing. It’s an issue with the board in the VIC. Even my 97 with only 91K miles had a clapped one. What I did with mine is removed the internals from it and used it to mount switches to instead. Much more useful. As far as the moonroof… what a shame. if you’re able to get all that junk off it that they put on it, it’s a fairly simple fix to get it moving again. Sometimes it’s the position switch which is located above your head inside the track of the moonroof. But usually, it’s simply an issue with some solder joints in that little board that’s connected to the moonroof motor. Could also be the motor, but I’d say it’s unlikely. Put power to it manually and you’ll know right away. I may have photos of when I did the repair on mine. Literally a walk in the park since yours already has the headliner out. Lmk. Would be glad to help you figure out the inner workings of a ZJ! Lots of quirks, but they’re amazing.
@@OverlandingOzarks nope they’re completely unrelated. The VIC won’t always blink at you, just here and there. And it’ll be brake light failure, coolant level low aswell as highlighting the engine. I didn’t investigate it to see if it was repairable because I wanted to have auxiliary switches down there, but every single one I’ve had has had an intermittently confused VIC. Just a solder or wiring issue with them. They start to think the world is ending after a certain amount of time lol. If you’re dead set on getting it working again, could take it apart and toy with it a little see if you can find broken solders or something along those lines. The moonroof motor has that little black box attached to it with some wires going to it. Follow the wires to where they clip in somewhere along the roof, unplug them and pull that little box down. Open it up and look real close at all the solder joints. I was able to find the photos I took of when I did mine. It’s as simple as applying some solder to them to refresh them. Also while you’re at it, it wouldn’t hurt to apply direct power to the black and green wires that power the moonroof motor. If it moves, you’ve got a good motor. The direction you apply power will change the direction the motor spins. Feel free to shoot me a text if you’d like, six oh seven 857 7134. Be happy to send the photos your way so we can get that roof working again.
If the sunroof is leaking, it's probably because the glass is no-longer bonded to the metal frame. That was the problem on my ZJ. I took the glass and the frame out, 3 bolts each side under the glass and re-bonded the glass and frame together using windscreen bond. You don't need to remove the whole sunroof mechanism, just the glass and frame. Put the sunroof in the tilt position and you should see them. The flashing warnings on the info centre will go away as you fix the problems, one warning light was for the lift hatch not being closed correctly.

Well someone got a unicorn
😎
I won't lie I thought I spotted a horse shoe welded on underneath .
@@pyrrhus17 Maybe it was a unicorn shoe 😂
I don't mean to sound negative or rude, but what makes this a rare unicorn? Is it the v8?
Dang looks like it needs a whole lotta work
Suspension and underneath will be easy, I'll get or make steel bumpers, light body work and touch up and she will be good to go
@@OverlandingOzarks looking forward to seeing this project

Thanks for watching!
Orvis jeeps are far more rare... try to find a green snowflake rim.
Would love to find one. They only come with the 5.2's right?

I had to go look that up. I had never heard of an Orvis edition, but now that read up..... I've seen them. They're nice. But, what does Orvis mean?
Orvis is like Eddie Baur.....Sporting/ outdoor goods company

Nice truck, looks like its in good hands. Those wheels are atrocious, kind of looks like a teenager had it before.
Thanks for watching! The wheels are huge haha. I'm thinking 35's on 15's for the next setup
You got a lot of work to do on this one. . What a pile
Wow strip it down and start over
That's the plan!

I’m sorry to tell you but, the 5.9 ZJ isn’t rare. There’s a ton of them out there.
It would be vary interesting to see this piece of shit after you rack you brains repairing it. Good luck buddy.
