- At UnivCon 2008, Brian Harnois gave a presentation entitled "21st Century Ghost Hunter" wherein he questioned the tools that are used for ghost hunting on paranormal television shows. He discusses Flir, digital voice recorders, IR cameras, and more. Keep in mind that this is edited together, and therefore is not the full lecture.

Brian rocks -- I think he was used as a fall guy on GH for dramatic effect.
Brian we love you and Ghost Hunters has not been the same since you left. Look now and see the ones who left after you did. Turn over after turn over with the crew members with just Steve and Tango. You were sincere and I truly believe you had some working against you. We are for you. Keep up the ghost hunting Brian you are the best.

Did you actually LISTEN to the talk? He had some good things to say. Brian is an accomplished investigator and a professional. He'd be welcome on my team as an investigator anytime.
As someone who understands the technical aspects of these pieces of 'equipment' I can tell you that Harnois is correct. He was shit on by TAPS because he had the nerve to point these things out off camera. They used him as comic relief and then threw him out like rubbish.
I missed Brian too, he should return to GH
They treated him like shit on that show. Every time he messed up, they made a point about it to show it on TV. But when Steve forgot a table, they were like. "eh.. It's okay."
If you watched all the shows from the start, you will see that Brian apparently lost equipment, and he never denied it, when confronted, particular pieces were not mentioned, but he was warned and it continued to happen, so they brought in the new guy to groom him for the job, also he had troubles with his woman, outside the show and it affected his ability to work on the show, they said he was late, did not show up at times and he took time off and came back still in a mess, so it was his fault

I heard the reason he left the show wasbecause of contract disputes. Seems the production company was really screwing the "minor" crew over and they were going broke.

Jay & Grant gave him several chances to clean his act up, on and off the show, and apparently he did not.
As far as the equipment goes, I've been Ghost Hunting for 25 years, and Thermal cams work, Night Vision cams work, EVP recorders, and many other pieces of equipment, GHost Hunters just does not take the time when they make a show to use it all, it's like they want to get out and move on to the next investigation as quickly as possible.

Who runs away from anything in Ghost Hunting, in 25 years of doing it, I've never once encountered anything to scare me or make me run, LOL, sure come on join our team, make us look like fools, he was an immature kid when the show started, he let his relationship with a girl ruin his career opportunity on the show for the future, if you watch the early shows, they discuss it along with losing equipment, or did he sell it,
I've witnessed an attack on an investigation and I pulled the team out immediately when this happened. I had 4 scared people on my hands and I was pretty shook up. It is easy to say what you might do in a situation, quite another when it happens to you. I wont' comment on the rest of your statements.
It was Grant & Jason's group, so therefor their show, they were the ones that had to negotiate and make the deals for the their group to go on TV, so why did they let their group members that had been loyal to them, get screwed, because they were greedy, and took the money and then later said, hey they got bad representation, not our fault, bull crap guys, those members trusted you and you screwed them or you let the TV shows people in charge screw your own people, Jason is the real tool.
Steve knew Brian was in trouble with Jay & Grant and he was the new guy and he wanted his job, so he helped Brian on his way out, and he got his job, I think Grant is quitting now, because he took a lot of cash for the shows to this point and he is tired of some of the crap of Jay, who got a big head with the show & the money, and he wants out, they screwed all their original members, and then claimed it wasnt our fault they got bad representation on their contracts.
