  • This video documents the restoration of a decades-old family statue of St. Therese of Lisieux. Unfortunately, over the years the statue was exposed to the elements outdoors and began to disintegrate. Watch the transformation that occurs through careful re-building, re-plastering, sanding and Pauline's always-incredible painting. We're a small family operation so we'd really appreciate a like, share or if you subscribe! Thank you! #statuerestoration #statuerepair #brushworks

      Thank you so much Father! Tomorrow we are completing the restoration of a high altar… Made of plaster… And over 100 years old. It was in very poor shape and this Sunday it will once again serve God’s glory at a church here in Ottawa in an adoration chapel. Can’t wait to put the video together and share our joy over this project! Thank you again and God bless you.

      Thank you. You are very kind. And we are impressed that you know about bare feet or sandals. Interestingly, though, we’ve restored many statues of St Therese and almost every one of them has depicted her in Black shoes. We have seen some depictions in sandals, but we don’t change the original artwork - our task is to restore it, not to change it ..

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  11 дней назад

      Normally we use Zinsser Bullseye primer, then Behr Premium paint. But for specialty areas such as faces, skin tones and flowers Pauline custom blends acrylic paints. Her preferred brand is Liquitex but it must be the professional grade (avoid using student or learner grade paints). Hope this helps! God bless!

    The face looks great, especially the eyes. Can you tell me if there is any advantage to using plaster over spackle to fill in the unwanted cracks and pitting. I use spackle and seems to work well.

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  2 месяца назад

      We typically mix and use hydrocal plaster for our projects. But spackling paste or even drywall mud are very close to the same thing. Spackling tends to dry more quickly and shrink less so there is that advantage.
      I just wouldn’t use it for anything larger… For example, creating or sculpting a hand Would not be advisable. Spackling would be too weak.
      Hope this helps and thank you for your compliment!

I try to repair our Convent statues, also some people bring their own from time to time. I ask the advice to the Restaurater here , that is bordes of Poland and Czech. But I am very glad to find your program. Is it any possible to produce by myself plaster kind of bandage that you use for fixing holes? I use Open Golden Acrylic paints... is it ok?

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  2 месяца назад

      Yes in this case a very gentle sanding with 600 grit paper then a light new layer of HydroCal plaster smoothed with fingers…

    Awesome work! I have a question. I am repairing a sacred heart of Jesus statue 36" tall the hand that's pointing to the scared heart is missing. I plan on create an armature first then cover it up with plaster then carve it to the desired shape of the hand.. Is this the correct method? If so what type of plaster should I use? or should I use I different material

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  6 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you Gabe! You can do it the way you describe, and we would recommend a harder plaster such as HydroCal. But you might also consider making a rubber mould of an identical statue hand and then just casting a copy of it. You’d need to sand it smooth of course but if you’re not an experienced sculptor that might work out much better for you.
      Another option is to use an epoxy based sculpting material that works like clay. You’d get some time to work it, shape it and smooth it out before it hardens overnight. We often use “Apoxie Sculpt” made by Aves.
      I hope this helps. God bless and good luck with your restoration! Let us know how it goes ! 🙏

    Could you tell me what color is her shoes? I try to see the color on you video but it's to fast for me to see. The one I was asked to paint, the shoes are gray. Should'nt it be brown? Also the sleeves under her robe were painted gray and I see that you painted it white which I think would be more like the right color.

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  Год назад

      Hi Norma! For larger surfaces, we plaster with a product called Hydro Cal plaster. It is harder than plaster of Paris, and we find it better to work with. However, if you are resculpting a missing finger, it would be best to use an Epoxy-based sculpting material. We use. .Apoxie Sculpt .. which you should be able to find and purchase online. I recommend you buy the smallest possible quantity because it does go a long way. hope this helps. You’re also welcome to email us directly if you have other questions.
