- Are Solid State Amps Finally Taking Over?
I played a festival recently with the band and out of the all of the bands that played only one guy was playing a Tube/Valve amplifier. Are solid state amps taking over? I think so!

If you'd like to see more videos of "stuff" used in the live mix I would be happy to do it. :-) It was funny to only see one guitarist all day using a Valve amp. Lemme know what you think of the tones...oh and Dr. Ric's "Bass Face" haha 😆
90 percent of guitars players (including myself) or purchasers I should say, play in their little bedroom at home and complain about the tone of solid state amps. "Oh solid state amps do not have the warmth of a tube amp" etc... Most of these players (I repeat, including myself), cannot play good enough to make the little nuances to be heard on a tube
As an adult learner solid state makes WAY more sense. If I can get satisfying tones out of a simple to use device, I’m far more likely to practice. I’m sure tubes sound better, but the older I get, the more chasing perfection seems like a waste of time and just not fun.
Practice continues to be the No. 1 tone enhancer, a display of some great playing through great amps!
My Fender Champion 100 amp never leaves me at my events on live, festivals, etc. It's my loyal friend, my best amp.
Love the sound. The base player was seriously in the groove.
You are one of the most humble people I've ever seen!!!! You play like a god but push it aside like nothing much! Man you are just too wonderful of a soul!!!
the only people who cares about the tone are the other 2 guitar players in the audience..
Love your playing Shane! Yes it’s nice seeing your take on gear and guitars which is amazing, but seeing you play in gigs is just as good too! Keep it up man!
Good stuff, brutha. Sounded great.
Thanks for posting Shane. You guys sounded great!!
Excellent work lads. Great tone!
Sounded great Shane. All you guys are top notch.
Great video! You guys sounded tight. Nice chops brother! 🤘😝🤘
Wow nice tones and very nice playing! I’m convinced.
I see the same thing around the country (US). I tour a lot and perform and observe many professional bands (maybe a 100 or more a year). And I rarely see a tube amp any more. People are finally getting wise. Solid state is so much easier to haul around and isn't as high maintenance.
You guys sound great. Dr. Ric's bass face was entertaining. 😆
Excellent video. For some time I've been seeing professionals using solid state amps. They're no joke. Even back in the 80s myself and many players in the crazy shreddy L.A. metal scene were using Randalls and Crates. I used an RG75 combo with a Celestion for a good number of gigs from '87 to '91. The reason solid state amps are finally getting some love is because the market demands great solid-state amps and companies like Boss have stepped up and delivered. Good on them. I remember a wonderful little company in the 80s, Pearce that made fantastic solid-state amps. Ronnie Montrose endorsed them. They were superb.
U guys were having so much fun!
Also Shane, you and Brian were killing it!
