I'm not saying Nix hasn't practiced well but they have to be positive about him. They just spent a first round pick on Nix after taking a huge cap hit to dump the guy they traded for. Even if he was struggling, the publicised narrative would be, "We made a great decision. Our new QB, that we chose, is doing well. Much better than the guy we took a cap hit to get rid-of".

Well sure Sean Payton is going to be talking about Bonix (never just Bo or Nix, always Bonix, always) like the dude just waxed Payton's car and whacked him off at the same time. I'm not saying Payton is lying or even intentionally exaggerating, but Bonix is *his* guy, and Payton's job, and reputation as an all-time great coach is on the line here. If Payton can win a super bowl in Denver he'd be the first hc to do so with two different teams; if he can at least make them competitive he'll have secured his legacy as a HOF-worthy coach. But if his qb turns out to be a bust and he's ignominiously run out of Denver...well, he'd probably get another shot to be the hc somewhere, but he certainly wouldn't have teams trading away draft picks to hire him. He'd have to take over a shitty team and oversee a rebuild, and chances of super bowl trips under such conditions would be slim. In other words, Payton wants to see Bonix as the awesome qb he needs him to be because there may very well he a bust in Canton riding on how good Bonix is. And maybe he's a kick ass qb who's going to have a long and outstanding career, but I'm certainly not taking Sean Payton's word for it in.

You mean the two games where Washington beat Oregon and Nix came up short at the end of both? I recall in the first game that Bo Nix failed on the goal line on fourth down and later couldn't complete a short pass on another fourth down that would have won the game for the Ducks (after which an injured Penix drove Washington straight down the field for the winning score). Who knows how either will do in the NFL, but college stats aside Penix is a better passer. Nix also played in an Oregon offense famous for producing a long string of big stats guys (including a recent Heisman winner) who, with the exception of Justin Herbert, don't do squat in the NFL.

I think this is all a bunch of bs… the game constantly evolves… Gruden was an offensive genius at one point to…his last few years with the Bucs and his time with the raiders was mediocre…. Sean had a great run but I don’t see anything coming from his tenure in Denver but disappointment

Russell Wilson may turn out to be a bust for the Steelers. He may be good for them. But Fields is a definite bust at the QB position. He might be good on special teams.

Nix is getting way too much hype here because THIS IS ONLY PRACTICE!. Let's just wait and see how Nix does in an actual NFL game here. The same thing applies to Russel Wilson in Pittsburgh. If Nix throws less TD passes than Wilson did last year then it is a failure in my mind because with all the hype he is getting because of Payton's statements about Nix.

This constant & continuous chorus of hatred for Russell Wilson from (mostly) white football fans is starting to feel very weird & eerily familiar to things I used to hear coming from similar sources when a guy named Kaepernic did something they didn't like. Stop with this stupid clickbait crap. "Dominating the Broncos offense"? Are you kidding me? Bo Nix has thrown a few passes to rookies in T-shirts & shorts who probably can't find the bathroom at the practice facility yet. Nobody knows if he can play like a starter in the NFL yet, but obviously any coach is going to want a QB who fits his offense. Wilson is not the first guy to be replaced for that reason. Nor will he be the last. Exactly one year ago Sean Payton was also singing the praises of Jarrett Stidham in similar fashion. In fact, not only did Payton say he saw him as a potential starter, but he went out of his way to delve into all the reasons why...reasons that almost exactly mirror what he's been saying about Bo Nix. He praised his football intelligence, his fast processor, his ability to read defenses, his touch on the ball & toughness & willingness to take a hit in the pocket by standing in till the last second to deliver a pass. He was not the only one...so did NFL scouts & rival players, as well as Broncos receivers catching his passes.
Wilson won more games than any QB in NFL history in their first decade in the league. Contemplate that for a moment...MORE than Manning, Brady, Montana, Elway, more than EVERYONE who ever played. I'm sick of hearing white fans & media clowns talk shit about this guy as if he were some idiot who was too stupid to walk & chew gum at the same time, & BTW...I say this as a white guy. Wilson is not stupid, which seems to be the objective of these constant attacks...getting people to think so. He graduated cumma sum laude with a 4.0 GPA in college while simultaneously playing BOTH major college football AND minor league baseball. Then he got a masters degree. For fans who don't know what that means....exactly.
Playing "so much college ball" means very little in the NFL when the system he played in was one of the worst in the college ranks in terms of transferring knowledge to the NFL. You're quoting from Zac Stevens...do you know who he is? He's not an "insider" (there is no such thing in Denver) he's a 20-something podcaster who likely learned the NFL game from playing Madden & watching fantasy football geeks on TV. You're behind a mic so do some research. Bo Nix played in a college system designed by Gus Malzahn, the originator of the no huddle-hurry up philosophy that uses pace to disadvantage defenses & give the QB an unfair advantage. It's exactly the same offense that Jarrett Stidham played in at Auburn...& he was better in it than Nix was at Auburn. In Nix's only season not playing in this gimmicky college spread system that magnifies stats (2021) he played in an offense new Auburn coach Bryan Harsin brought in when Malzahn was fired. It featured NFL passing sets & progression reads. Nix not only struggled, he was benched for a while. He described it as "a nightmare", & immediately transferred to Oregon for 2022. Why Oregon? Because he followed his old OC under Malzahn to the Ducks...Kenny Dillingham. When Dillingham got the Arizona State job the following year, Oregon coach Dan Landing replaced him with Max Stein, who got the job on the strength of his promise to continue letting Nix play in the Malzahn/Dillingham spread offense.
Bo Nix has never seen anything in college that remotely looks like what he will see in the NFL. That does not mean he won't be a successful QB, but when Stidham arrived at New England, NFL QB trainer Jordan Palmer said he had never seen a QB who got less from his college system that was useful for playing in the NFL. It took Stidham three years inside the best QB rooms in the in the league sitting at the feet of Brady, Belichick & McDaniels...in order for Payton to sign him. Palmer said that had nothing to do with his intelligence, it had to do with the offense he played in while in college. So while Bo was throwing bubble screens to wide open receives at Oregon for that extra 2 years past what Jarrett had, Stidham was digesting NFL passing concepts & picking the brain of the best field general in NFL history. That might mean something when it comes to our expectations we have for Bo Nix as a rookie.
I've been a Bronco fan since 1969. I hard the same kind of hype over Jay Cutler, Drew Brees & Paxton Lynch. Hell I heard it over a guy named Matt Robinson back in 1980...right before he threw 2 TDs & 12 picks & was sent packing. I trust Sean Payton for knowing what he wants in his QB. That does not mean there is a straight line that can be drawn from his playbook to the idea that Wilson is a drooling moron & some rookie who played in a college spread without a huddle is far smarter than he is. He's going to wind up in the NFL Hall of Fame one day, put some respect on his name whether he's a fit for Payton or not.

First off Peyton is a crap HC. He is not the greatest around. He could of with his offense set up Wilson to fail. What are all the sports talking heads and this clown going to say if Wilson balls out and tears the league up with the Steelers? Steelers still had winning seasons with the WORST OC and 3 of the worst QB's in the NFL. Now they get a Super bowl winner and for some Ducking reason they going to get worst? Tell me how that makes sense. Just a bunch of jealous and Steelers haters is all they are.

Wilson was more adaptable than Payton. Attempting to run Payton's offense, Wilson played well enough to get the franchise to its first playoff in seven years. Wilson's league leading 4th quarter comebacks, QB rating and TD to interception ratio look awful good to the Steelers. Perhaps Payton should have focused some on the defense to win a couple of those 1st 6 games. I guess Bo Nix will save Payton the trouble of having to adapt a little. Hmm, but then he might still have to coach and pay Wilson. Wait...he is still paying Wilson!

Damn that's gotta sting for Russell. His game was never one of timing, but rather relied on his improvisation at the position to make it work for him. But now he no longer has the mobility and he's too short to be a pocket passer or lacks the skills to read the progression sequence.
