Ele is the most consistently interesting and challenging ( and hella op when u can master all 20 wep skills and utility skilss at your disposal) class in gw2... stopped playing guard for it haven't really looked back since.
True even if its not optimal i just love the challenge that and the amount of versatility especially considering ele has the higher amount of combo fields of any profession
Rather than remember individual skills at the start, remember skill combos. An easy one is fire dagger 4 then 5. 4 burns the enemy and 5 does extra damage to burning enemies, so they're a natural two skill combo. Chain combos together instead of individual skills and you can free up some brain space. Once you've gotten used to applying the combos in different situations, then you can start doing the individual skills. My start to understanding ele was the double dagger tempest. Opening with a fire overload into earth combo finishers was a great way to wrack up conditions, boons and gain auras.
@@CaffeinatedDad I mean I feel like tempest is A tier or s tier while played right but even in matches when I’m carrying ppl start whining and blaming the ele lol
One that I use all the time is, swapping attunements is instant (can swap during animations). It is super important if you are playing fresh air but, great on all builds.
my only real complaint would be they need to give it just a tiny nudge in hp and expand boon range just a bit, the current boon system basically forces mellee regardless of how you play, making any variation of ranged play that much more difficult in any group content - and I can't realy see a balance issue if they expanded boon range a bit to allow for more flexability in play styles.
I play GW2 since years and never truly tested Ele since last week... I was upset by not understanding anything and what to do to be competitive.. Other classes need 4 boutons to be effective while Ele needs 10 minimum haha... But with a little practice everything becomes clear and now I want it as my main! Soo funny to play and the only class which remind me the complexity of Gw1 builds and possibilities for sure!

I honestly think it's a ton of fun to play and one of the best parts of GW2. it gets such a bad wrap but it's one of the reasons I live the game so much.
@@CaffeinatedDad Well i guess most of it can be applied to OW content aswell since that usually is the same kind of fighting style as PvP. But some tips aren't as relevant for instanced PvE/wvw. The combo finishing has become pretty much useless in instanced PvE and WvW due to excessive amounts of might uptime and competing fields from other professions. The primary use is now for elemental epitome only. The way you use your LF is typical for PvP, in general for PvE its only used for boss mechanics and in WvW its usually only for defense/chasing enemies. (You might want to add the burning Retreat -> Meteor shower combo next time aswell because alot of players dont seem to know about that one). Conjured weapons in PvE and WvW are usually dropped after ~3 sec instead of using the fgs to kite enemies as seen in the vid. Most of your footage is on catalyst which is dominant in pvp but probably only has like a 2% ele coverage in instanced PvE and WvW (not sure about OW). I probably haven't seen a catalyst in over a month in instanced PvE/wvw. In most instanced PvE/wvw settings its often not advised to drop out of your rotation/damaging attunements for stuff like healing/cleanse since it results in a big dps loss and the heals/cleanses are usually provided by a dedicated support. Definitely not saying these tips aren't usefull, but its quite funny to see how different OW/instanced PvE/WvW/PvP players can interpret the game on many levels.
I respect no one that tells people to go against the very thing they play the class for. Conjured weapons was one of the single worst things Anet ever did in GW2. Its a minor gain and it makes this ranged magic class just another melee with slightly more options and all to lose the greatness of the range and actual magic.
to be fair, your comment is more opinion base. the current best PvP elementalist build includes a conjured earth shield as well as the fiery greatsword in PvE. while I agree that it ruins the aesthetic of a battle mage and makes it even more difficult for the tough lives of Elementalists, my video is centered around ways to play the game as it is, not necessarily how it should be.
@@CaffeinatedDad To be fair, your title does not say "for PvP", and it still does not change the fact that conjure makes ele a melee class. PvP requires people to number crunch and not play for fun, but for that extra .1% DPS to be a l33t d00d so you can tell someone you raped their mom.
As someone whom plays on NA servers from Australia, as much as I love the Ele (first 80) I've been forced to change class simply due to being 1-2 hit by bosses because I missed a dodge because of the added 1.5sec delay was just way too punishing. I am also a firm believer that elementalist is the class that makes the absolute best use out of celestial stats #Cele4Life.

Relatively new player playing staff ele. Is it true I wont be able to take the staff as a viable weapon to the endgame because its my favorite of all the weapons so far for ele
Ele is simple. Learn the combo for each attunement, then cycle through Air, Fire, and Earth for damage, and switch to Water when you need healing. Use utility skills as needed. Also if you go D/D you get three dashes with s, two shields, and tons of CC making it super easy to avoid damage. With D/D core Ele you'll be soloing champs in open world by the time you unlock your second specialization in the base game.
Hi, I'm new to guild wars 2... I'm playing an elementalist aswell. Just wondering when you talk about combos do you have any more advice on this. I've mainly been switching the attunements and using water to heal. But I haven't looked into combos yet. Any info is appreciated... thanks
@@yankernator For core D/D the combos for enemies without a break bar would be Air 4, 2, 3, 5 into Fire 3, 4, 5, 2 into Earth 2, 4, 5, 3. Then if your enemy is still alive, switch back to Air and do it again. This will make use of all of your movement skills, s, and CC to help you avoid taking damage. For break bar enemies it would be Air 3 (tap it twice to burst he shield), 5 into Earth 3, 4. Once the bar is gone, just do your normal combos and use your utilities if needed. The Elite skill that summons the tanky Earth Elemental is excellent for soloing champs. Sometimes the Water one too if you need big heals. For Water attunment I mainly use just 4 and 5, sometimes popping the shield instantly for the regen if I need it. Also, with the Arcane - Evasive Arcana trait, dodging in Water attunement will cleanse conditions and is useful for removing movement impairing stuff that can get you killed. Once these combos become instinctive, you will start being able to come up with new combos on the fly that fit specific situations and use your s and CC more strategically if you need to. For example, if you're doing an event where you need to protect something or someone, you can just do Earth 3, 2, 4, 5 to chain CC and keep the enemies from ever reaching their target. Also, when leveling I went with tankier gear focusing on vitality and toughness since Ele already has plenty of damage. And btw, Ele is OP underwater too with the Signet of Restoration utility skill. Since you spam skills crazy fast with your trident you'll be able to passively out-heal most damage you take even against many champs. Hope this helps. 👍

ive been messing around with it for a week or so but yeah it being so melee centric makes it seem as if there is only one playstyle. when i geared for condi dmg the damage is slow to ramp up to kill a foe. when i gear for power the dmg is weak. i dont have the latest expansion but most of the weapon sets feel slow and weak especially scepter and staff. dagger does better dmg but because of the close range youre in situations that can get you downed more often. when attuned to earth my health goes down faster than it does than when tuned to water so i dont see what benefit that trait line has other than removing conditions with diamond skin. also the damage in earth attunement is weaker than all the other elements in my experience. the class is too squishy to be so melee oriented.

Staff got a buff recently and is becoming more viable. D/D gives you the equivalent of 5 dodge rolls since it has 3 moves with s. Add all the shields and CC you get on top of that and you should never be in position for an enemy to beat you down. Damage is also very good if you know the combos and how to cycle attunements. When I leveled as D/D I was soloing champs by the time I unlocked my second specialization. Typical rotation for enemies without a break bar would be Air 4, 2, 3, 5 --> Fire 3, 4, 5, 2 --> Earth 2, 4, 5, 3, then right back to Air. This rotation makes full use of your CC and s so you won't take much damage while doing it. For break bar enemies just rotate between Earth 3 and 4, and Air 3 and 5 until it breaks, then use the previous combos. The biggest mistake I've seen new players make with Ele is sitting in one attunemnet. Once you do a combo, switch attunemnets and do another.
