It's fantastic! It makes testing antennas so much simpler than using the SWR meter on the radio. I also used the capacitor testing feature to test an air variable capacitor. It was nice to be able to verify that the capacitor was working right. This analyzer was well worth every penny I spent on it.

I ordered one of these. It should be arriving in a couple of days! It's pretty cool that you can use it to test coax. I am sure I will get plenty of use out of my MFJ antenna analyzer. Thanks Mr.Jue

    This was some great information.

Can't get my MFJ 259C to go in advanced mode. Looks like the Gate button does no do anything. When I press the get and mode button together it just scroll through the mode but not advanced mode.

my audio was sounding garbled. so I tested the coax showing a short so i am about to lower my antenna and do this test to find the short thanks for the tutorial.Jim

Thanks for that info. I decided to give the RigExpert AA-54 a shot so I changed my order this morning only because I want to take advantage of the LCD screen and the sweep features. I'm working on some home brew antenna designs and this will allow me to view the bandwidth for a given band in a chart format at a glance.
It can also interface to a laptop too. The only disadvantage is the AA-54 is only good from 1 Mhz up to 54 Mhz. Cont:

Cont: whereas the MFJ antenna analyzer has a much broader freq coverage. I could have worked with the unit but for my needs I would have to chart out the SWR and the impedance on paper so that would be a bit time consuming. Both analyzers have strong points and weak points. I also looked at the Youkits FG-01 but the display is the size of a postage stamp and it cannot interface with a PC plus it takes a special battery. The meter I just ordered takes 2 AA batteries and that I can live with.

Why did you get a .3 feet difference between an open any shorts? That makes a difference because it is like 2 1/2 inch difference in length. I noticed something with mine when I get it if I went on certain frequencies like really low one or 2 MHz and I was using the meter with RG58A/U and I noticed it indicated that an 18 foot piece of Coax showed a distance of 3590 ft. However when I just did it between 120 and 150 MHz it indicated the correct amount of feet.

A lot of criticism for Mr. Jue for his products being "junk." His company may not be the best at manufacturing, but as an engineer his brilliance is well respected especially among those in the Engineering Department at Mississippi State University where he is a professor.

my mfj 259 does not ask for a velocity factor.... where do I input the VF?

you said you can measure the velocity factor with this device, how do you do that?
