    Can i add sugar at the whipping stage and it becomes foaming sugar scrub?
    Also will it get hardened after curing like normal soaps do? or it will be fluffy to scoop from for using in the bath?
    Thank you for sharing the recipe dear

    • @hsborganix4541
      @hsborganix4541  3 года назад +5

      Yes you can add sugar, I prefer to add mine after so that the sugar can retain some of its grit.
      I will not get hard again after it has been whipped,
      If you let it cure for weeks before you whip it, it will get hard. But if you whip it first it will stay fluffy.

    Now my question is, how do we make it more thick? Like the whipped look is nice but I’m going for a nice thick texture with the whipped look. Would we add more stearic acid?

    • @hsborganix4541
      @hsborganix4541  4 года назад +3

      It does get very thick If you let it sit for a few days after you whip it.
      But if you want to to be as thick as "shea butter" consistency you should skip the glycerin, and just whip it without glycerin.

    • @hsborganix4541
      @hsborganix4541  3 года назад

      I wait till the base is completely cool before I start whipping, to protect my mixer. You do not need any preservatives unless you plan on adding water or other perishable ingredients. Soap is a self preserving product due to it high PH level.

  • @fifigurl2011
    @fifigurl2011 3 года назад +4

    This is the first whipped soap recipe I've seen that has sodium hydroxide. Don't you have to cure it for at least 6 weeks before use, just as you would bar soap, to avoid chemical burns? I mean...that's fresh LYE.

    • @rockynuisance
      @rockynuisance 2 года назад +10

      As soon as the soap is saponified, the sodium/potassium hydroxide no longer exists - it has transformed into soap. Curing is to allow excess water to evaporate, therefore making the soap harder. It is a common misconception that curing has anything to do with the lye. In fact, hot process speeds up saponification, so in theory, the soap can be used safely right away.

    Thank you for sharing. That is very kind of you.
    How do I store it until use esp if I want to add, mica, essential oil and maybe sugar to make it a sugar whipped scrub?
    Also do I not add a preservative? Like germall plus?

      Love and greetings back to you from Canada 🇨🇦 ❤ ♥ 😘
      You do not need preservatives if you are adding essential oils or mica.
      If you are adding sugar, or water, You would need about 1% of preservatives to make a whipped scrub.
      Liquid Germall Plus is a good choice 👌.

    • @hsborganix4541

      You should, cook both the oils and the lye, after the soap is saponified.

    • @hsborganix4541
      @hsborganix4541  3 года назад +2

      You don't have to cure it.
      Hot processed soap can be used immediately after it is made. Just be sure to cook it long enough.
      I usually let it cook on low heat for upto 8 hours, if I have time. But I haven't had an issue with giving it 2 - 4 hours.
      If this is your first time be sure to give it 8 hours, and you can tweak your time and process the more proficient you get.
      You welcome.

    • @hsborganix4541

      This is a wash off soap.
      It is natural,
      NaOH is the base product used to make ever soap.
      Unless you are using soap berries, which I am yet to test yet.
      This soap base should last upto 12 months without any preservatives, unless you are adding extra liquid.
      It should remain thick if you do not alter it in anyway, but you are welcome to use it as a base for whatever you want. Feel free to share what you make with me.

      You don't need to preserve it if you are going to store it for a few weeks.
      If you are going to store it for a couple of months with sugar added, add 1% of your chosen preservatives.
      Soap is naturally self preserving, unless you are adding other products to it.

      After it has been whipped it will not harden.
      If you want that to make a hard soap after you pipe it, you should skip the KOH, and just use NaOH and do not use a crock pot. The curing time will be much longer but the results will be beautiful and worth it.

    • @hsborganix4541
      @hsborganix4541  2 года назад

      I use an even split for this recipe, if you want it to be softer use more KOH. and vice-versa.
      In the future I will be using a 70:30 ratio,
      70%KOH and 30%NaOH.
      I think this split would be easier to work with, and also easier on your mixer 😉.

      From my experience the sugar just helps with Exfoliation, but I haven't any change in size.
      But, when you whip it, it does double in size

    Hi could I use all sodium hydroxide in this or would it firm up to much

    • @hsborganix4541
      @hsborganix4541  3 года назад +1

      If you use Sodium Hydroxide it would firm up a lot and it would be very difficult to whipp.

      Your welcome, let me know how it goes. If you are going to add more of any ingredients it should be KOH.

      I think I over cooked it ? It was not as fluffy as soon as I put in my kitchen aide it would clump up and harden into semi soft chunks ... I think i will turn it into laundry soap if I can get it crumblely in my food processor. Will try again though and cook it less .. I doubled the recipe I think this time will not double and see how it goes.

    can i use freshly boiled water instead of DI water?

    • @hsborganix4541
      @hsborganix4541  3 года назад +1

      You can use boiled water, but be mindful that it would affect the PH of your soap.
      Distilled water is preferred because it has a neutral Ph.

      Maybe you should look at the date the video was posted before you make a pointless comment. If you knew how to do your homework before opening you mouth and spewing out nonsense 😒 you would not have found yourself in this embarrassing situation,🙄
      If it is a no for you why invest your time and energy into watching the video and make a comment on it.
