This version is the best of all Dracula.I saw this as a little kid on Swedish tv back in the 1980,and was the first Dracula movie i ever seen. I loved it and still do.The Music by Robert Cobert is great,i own it on cd.Very good review Dude 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇
Well, I believe that it's completely in character for Vlad to be hearing battle cries and cheers for victory while on the verge of death. So very fitting ending , IMHO.
Palance was inarguably a superb casting choice. Curtis had absolute, true to Stoker’s description gold with this guy’s viscerally believable, demonic method acting interpretational chosen approach. It is truly unfortunate he failed to perceive the irrefutable potential he had at his uniquely gifted directorial, and production finger tips to create for the very first time a true, and fully accurate depiction of Stoker’s timelessly iconic novel. Thankfully in 1977 BBC produced a television motion picture of what on a very elemental scientific evaluation has since been proven meets those requirements technically, and otherwise far more than anything else of any sort that has come before it or since it.
Thanks for the liner notes. It never occurred to me Renfield was omitted. One thing to share-this movie should have been broadcast on CBS around Halloween 1973, but it was pre-emted so that CBS could cover Spiro Agnew's resignation speech. It took about four months before they got around to showing it. Boy was I pissed.
I remember checking out a book published by "Crestwood House" from my Elementary School Library, and saw a picture of Jack Palance's Dracula on there, and then I'd later learn its from Dan Curtis, the man who brought us "Dark Shadows". I've see only bits here on RUclips, and probably saw the VHS in "FYE" (well "Camelot Video" back in the day). Gonna have to keep my eye out for this one. Great Review.
I was impressed by this review; you were very eloquent in your delivery. I watched the movie on DVD, and I must have blinked when it came to Jack's scene where he flipped Lucy's coffin. I'm also impressed by the bling you're wearing. Where'd you get it?
Love this version, though (as usual) it strays from the novel in some significant ways (as mentioned here). Palance was a great Dracula, as he was a great Jekyll and Hyde a few years earlier, again, in a Dan Curtis production.
the idea that a vampire cant enter your home unless invited goes back quite a bit further than the novel , but it was`nt believed everywhere , the vampire tales varied from area to area !
I really liked this version. Especially since Dan Curtis did the original " Night Stalker " movie with Darren Mcgavin and the original " Dark Shadows " .
TRIVIA- For Marvel Comics' acclaimed comic book series Tomb Of Dracula, the artist Gene Colan was inspired by Jack Palace's likeness when designing the character, several months BEFORE Palance took on the role!😮
Yep, I've talked about that at length in other videos where I talk about those comics. I've been collecting the Complete Collection editions since 2018.
Thank you for your excellent review. It's odd that only a few years later the Frank Langella version would be released. I know this is a TV movie. Generally enough time is let pass to allow an audience to not form any direct connections in their minds between different versions of any well known character or story. Palance is an obvious choice. So suited to the role that it's not surprising he turned down several offers to reprise it. Clearly he could be in danger of his career getting sidelined into such an appropriate and profitable role.
Haaa, thank you for explaining that the reincarnated lover trope came from this film. It’s so funny that we have Dark Shadows to ultimately thank for that. I’ve never been much of a fan of Casanova Dracula. Give me the old evil bloodsucker anytime. This caused a similar revolution in our perception of the character as Lee did in (Horror of) Dracula. Apparently, no scientific papers had ever mentioned Dracula as a sexual or liberating metaphore before 1958. After that, it started raining these interpretations. Of course, it might have without Lee, since it was the dawn of the 60s after all, but still, I like to think it was because Christopher Frank Carandini Lee was just too damn sexy for his cape.

Christopher Lee himself considered Jack Palance to be his personal favorite Dracula. That’s high praise indeed, and well deserved.
This has always been one of my favourite Dracula movies! He’s perfect for the part. Him and Christopher Lee are by far the best
I agree, Palance was perfect.

Great ending scene
This is definitely one of the absolute best adaptations. Great to see this underrated film reviewed!

One of the better Dracula movies. Saw it in the early 80’s.
I saw this on CBS when I was 5. Still one of my favorite versions.

Love The Horror Classics Of Dan Curtis The Man Who Created "Dark Shadows".
This sounds like a really good version of Dracula. I'm going to try and watch this one eventually.

Has anyone ever had a full Scottish breakfast?
ARTHUR: omg Jonathan is a vampire
JONATHAN: *falls into spike pit and dies*
ME: bruh
You do realize that Arthur is the one who knocked him in, right?
Best will always be Bela Lugosi
taking the wolf from the zoo is taken directly from the book !
Maybe after watching this, you should review House Of Dark Shadows as Dan Curtis directed that too. And Night Of Dark Shadows.
Yes, I definitely plan to review both of those at some point.
Awesome reviews cool movie
wow how old is face book
The movie was meh, but Palance was fantastic! Well done, Jack!
A Dracula Review by SeanCula! Bleh Bleh!!!!!!!
