The top Korean student in the school: "This school is merely a place, within a place, within a place. All that can be known is within my mind. I exist at all points in time and at no point in time. Reality itself holds no secrets before my eyes. I have escaped the illusion of illusions and have come to know all truths. But there is one universal truth that can be found in all universes. Honestly Solfa I appreciate this type of content so much!!! Thank you for not just repeating the same ideas of other channels and actually producing quality entertainment that is funny and informational. :)
About after a month of constant K-drama watching My teacher was timing/testing our reading speeds and mine had gone way up from the month before xD K-dramas are magic. I've always struggled reading fast, until lately >:)
I think people put too much emphasis on which University you attended, especially in Korea. That's why I never tell people there which University I attended (Harvard), because they either put you on a pedestal or judge you for trivial mistakes. My friends who attend SNU have had that same problem.
belongsinthetrash You are. The only person who can realize it is yourself. Every person has the ability to develop themselves. They also can do it at any point of their life.
DrCalviny thats really awesome. at my high school, your worth is judged by your gpa and future college. anyone who goes to county college is looked down upon. some people are putting college rank b4 financial considerationa for college
MillyWilly Anyone with the will to develop themselves can do anything they want to achieve. Your education is just a label, I know alumni from my University who can't even find decent jobs, whereas friends from community colleges were able to successfully start their own business and make more than I do. Don't let your label dictate who you are, it doesn't matter if anyone looks down on you. Only you can limit yourself to your potential.
I can relate them 100000000%. As indonesian university student, i am so sick of people expectation and judge us stupid if we are not match with their expectation.
OO fellow indonesian XDD I'm still in middle school but I know how pressuring it's if nearly everyone has expectations from you.... I'm from Samarinda btw, I want to go to UI or UGM later... perhaps, if I could XD

HazewinDog Why are you putting the definition of the word? Sadly their schools are inhuman to everyone but them. That occasionally makes me feel like an idiot.
Jjang Kate Completely out of topic but I hope you have as good of a high school experience ahead of you as you can! 😊 And as for the original topic I spent last year in Korea as a uni exchange student so the facts and figures are still fresh in mind haha. And forread the amount of things Korean uni students need to do is so much that I'm almost suprised they still have time to do these videos!
Jjang Kate mine was as good as it can be. I did all sorts of things and had amazing experiences (the thing about soul is that it caters to pretty much any interest so you never really have "nothing to do"). Of course it wasn't always all sunshine and rainbows, but all in all like any experience living alone out of our country of origin makes you grow a whole lot as a person, and Korea specifically taught me a lot. Now I'm just waiting and looking for a chance to go back there again, that much or a second home it became to me 😊
Jjang Kate Youre pretty similar to me in that case, I've also taught myself a good bunch of languages at home, though Korean is actually the only one I properly started to learn after I went to Korea. But anyhow I'd say for now it would be probably good to mainly just focus on school and keep on learning korean on your own time, and maybe later on (like before 3rd year etc) ask if you could for example take part in a short-ish summer language session in some of the universities summer programs etc (I'm sure you'd straight go to 고급 by then), and maybe after that if you still feel like it go on a longer exchange when you're in uni or who knows, even apply to a Korean university? :) Just tossing ideas here haha When did you start learning Korean btw? I'm from Finland, which probably explains the awkward English haha. You? :)
Jjang Kate nice, so your case is even more similar to me then. Despite having learned especially English at school since 3rd grade I've still learned most of it just by using it online. And now I'm obviously applying the same method to Korean after getting a firm foundation. I'm currently doing social psychology but I'm planning on changing my major to linguistics
Yeay! A new video. 😊 These students worked hard for their place in SNU and I hope they'll have a bright future for them. I have a friend that studies in SNU, and when I initially found out that she studies there, I had the same reaction. "Woah, you're studying in SNU?" But it wasn't really a big deal for her. 😂
Were the subtitles moving so much faster in this video or was it me? I had just woke up so I could have been slowly adjusting to it. This video wasn't that entertaining for me but the girl with the blonde hair is my favorite. They were all pretty cool tho. Also, Yoon, please be in your next video >.
The one from the thumbnail! I was literally looking for this comment. Seeing if there are people like me, a 2days1night nerd, who recognized him from the show! HAHAHAHAHA High five!
DidaxS I watch all types of Asian movies be it drama, Horror, etc. But to me, it seems like the captions are whizzing by a little too quickly. I will do what someone suggested & watch at half-speed to be able to follow along. 😉
I hate the idea of going through Uni without knowing what you will do after... I guess graduating at the top 1% of the country would open a lot of doors later on... But then again doing exams for the sake of doing exams sounds tedious and painful... I'll stick to knowing exactly what I want to do and studying some other professions to keep my options open :)
Going to a SKY university actually gave a Korean graduate a lot more doors open. The Korean economy is not doing well. in fact there is a saying that : not even a SNU graduate can get a job. that being said, it does help im sure
Ah, I wanna have a future like this...I'm applying to one of the best engineering/STEM schools in America next year, and science is such an open field with a lot of possibilities...
As much I like Korea, I would never want to grow up in the country. So much pressure, so much rests upon your social status & how society perceives you. Just too much...

Okay, I know ARMYs want to express their opinions (I'm an ARMY, too), but let's stop bringing BTS in literally everything that is Korean-related because it's causing annoyance to the people who just came to enjoy the video. (I'm also Korean)
Please shut the fuck up, sorry for being rude, but let them be, I saw blackpink and Kim taehee but no one said anything, so what’s wrong with saying bts? Actually no one said bts, they said “namjoon” who is actually Korea’s top 1% student
I've been to SNU, when I was in SK. Checked out the campus. It is nice. It's on the green subway line, near Kangnam. There were people playing baseball outside when I was there. I was actually pretty impressed.
This is kinda interesting. I go to uni in Australia and atleast where I'm at, the uni you go to doesn't really matter. Or at least not as much as it does in Korea or America. People choose uni's a lot more based on convenience/ options, rather than trying to get into the best one. Plus, you year 12 grade mark determines specifically what course you can get into, not really what uni you get into
Okay, I never forget a face and I recognize the second person, the guy. Wasn't he on an episode of 1 Night 2 Days? The high school student trip episode?
I actually really enjoy the more relaxed (slang) style English subs that have been added, as it makes more sense to what is being said as they are young
Where I live one the best uni is free but you need extremely good grades, the entrance exam is nothing academic but a psychological exam where they analyze together with your grades where (career wise) could you get in, of course since a machine is the one analyzing you could ridge the answers so it results in whatever career you want (it's the only one where you can study medicine). The other best uni is a private one where they do have academic entrance exams, you don't really need good grades to get in but the exam is really difficult so yeah most people there are good students and have money because it's an expensive uni (the only one where you can study psychology); and the last on the top three is another private uni, they don't have entrance exams and you need to pay but is not as expensive as the second mentioned, you don't need good grades to get in and it's a great university with great surroundings in a great area and well equipped (the public one is a disaster even if the best graduates are from there) it's the best university for engineering and mass communication. I passed the first two, decided for the second studied 9 months froze the career and changed to the third. For me surroundings are important so I decided for the second and it was such a disappointment... not the uni but the students, since they have money they look at everyone like they matter less, more if you don't dress like them (because of the difficulty of the exam and price, the university has a small population so you encounter everyone every minute of the day); so I changed to the third option, is a great university there is freedom and not pressure, the people don't pay attention to anyone because there's just too many people and it has a big campus! I live in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
***** public: universidad del zulia (LUZ), private and expensive: universidad rafael urdaneta (URU), private and not as expensive: universidad rafael belloso chacin (URBE)
My ex took economics there... she found out she wasn't happy with that path afterwards. I wonder how many of these people are going to end up very successful but unhappy when they find a job?
To always the pressure to perform, to always study every day and to not have any life besides that. :) To feel the pressure saying you are among the top 1% so we expect great things from you. :) No thanks that is nothing for me.
i totaly agree with your statement, but if you have the talent to learn why dont use it. you are only calling the bad things about being the top 1% what are the good things about it? if peopl expect alot of you you probaly gonna do way better than the rest. besides that what are you doing in your freetime not alot i think? those people have talent and they are using it, with learning all day.
my personal opinion about this is, that i want to be among the top 1% its the feeling that you are better than your comrades. in economy they say ''scary you need to make choice between things sometimes money sometimes time''. if i had the choice to choose iwould like to be the top 1% maybe for the experience maybe for the honor that you are better than 99%
"I wonder if I can reach beyond my own and meet the expectations of others too" - I feel the same way T_T (Of course, they are much better than me). After graduation, I feel disappointed about all of me (jobs, appearance, bad habits, networks,....). And I think I let my parents, my friends, my relatives,... down. It's really hard to get rid these kind of thoughts...
In 2019, only the top 0.2% of students were admitted to SNU. Only 0.6% were admitted to Yonsei, Korea and Sogang, 1% were admitted to Sungkyunkwan and Hanyang. THIS IS INSANE.
I feel like even if you are from one of the best universities, knowledge from education is still so limited but I do think that even going into further education (and actually graduating lol) will give a more noticeable boost towards your goal than not attending. Everyone's goals are different though and a lot of people don't even know their goals yet. In general, university is a good choice that will probably guarantee you a job, it might be what u want, it might not be what you want, you might like it or might not. I feel like further education (or education in general) ; compared to work-life is actually only a small portion of our lives but it can potentially change how you live in the future so much that it could be worth it. In the end, it's really up to one's desire and their situation to decide whether further education is the right choice, I believe that apprenticeships are actually a really good opportunity too for those who can't invest in further education. (Says someone who just graduated high school and hasn't started university yet XD)
Wow. I'm depressed. Taking the PSAT tomorrow. Excuse me. Today. It's past twelve. Didn't study. I'm a junior. Zero hope of getting into a good college.
Honestly PSATs and SATs aren't really anything. Even if you go to a mediocre community college/university, get a good GPA there and then transfer to a better one. Anyway, a lot of people where I'm from go to CC first to do the basic courses for less $ and then transfer to better ones for their degrees. I wish I took this route for less debt, lol.
I'm actually working my way to attend a top national school, the most favorite major too. So it'll basically be a miracle if I can somehow join. Watching this actually enlightened me. Like, everything's actually so simple. Though not extremely simple, it's not an impossible thing. Still, I need to strive my best and let God do the rest ('w')/❤

In my country, the Philippines, some people are somewhat into these trend of getting college diploma from prestigious uni like University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila, De La Salle University and University of Santo Thomas (also Silliman University in Dumaguete) but our parents are not that crazy to force everyone to try out in those uni because the tuition fees and living expenses in Manila are too expensive for average Filipinos. I finished my degree in Secondary Education from a local college, that helped me land job offers even before I graduated. I think, I did fairly well like my high school batchmates who actually went to universities, there's not much difference, to be honest. At the end of the day, no matter where we got our degree or what profession we took, the sad reality is that, we are bound to a lifetime of low-paying jobs, it doesn't matter if you are a teacher, nurse, engineer, or what, unless you turn your back and pack your bags to try your luck abroad. Am I sad with this? I am. I love my country, it's easy to finish school here, there's no pressure unless you pressure yourself but life after that is pretty steady, not lucrative but it put food on your table. I honestly feel sad for Koreans, their educational system is so hard on them mentally and emotionally, yet they still end up striving after college in finding a good job that earns well and can make them keep up with expensive lifestyle in their country. If I'll get to go to Korea for one day, I would definitely feel like a queen according to the standards I'm used to.
I think she mentioned it because Namjoon has an IQ of 148, or at least when they tested him in highschool, and he passed the exam they were talking about in this video as top 1.3%. Means, if he'd hve scored 0.3% higher he could've also went to this university. But well, he wasn't even fully studying at the time but preparing for BTS debut, so I guess that's why Taeseok kiwi wrote he is busy instead with music.
@King Karasu II RM/Namjoon has an IQ of 148, he is incredibly smart as shown in one of their videos where BTS have to solve a question, and Namjoon is the only one that figures it out.

My friends who attend SNU have had that same problem.

wow an upload. all Korean react channels pretty much lost steam randomly about two months ago lol
Jjag Kate you're probs right because generally the uni fall semesters just started approx. 2 months ago
:) Just tossing ideas here haha
When did you start learning Korean btw?
I'm from Finland, which probably explains the awkward English haha. You? :)
Jjang Kate nice, so your case is even more similar to me then. Despite having learned especially English at school since 3rd grade I've still learned most of it just by using it online. And now I'm obviously applying the same method to Korean after getting a firm foundation.
I'm currently doing social psychology but I'm planning on changing my major to linguistics

Yes, that's why translating Korean movies or comics is hard, the words tend to be shorter and the writing too. Smash that pause button !...

Berzerius Good idea! 😉
I hate the idea of going through Uni without knowing what you will do after... I guess graduating at the top 1% of the country would open a lot of doors later on...

Intresting to see the other side :) Personally I would not want to live with such a high pressure to perform.
why not?
To always the pressure to perform, to always study every day and to not have any life besides that. :) To feel the pressure saying you are among the top 1% so we expect great things from you. :) No thanks that is nothing for me.
i totaly agree with your statement, but if you have the talent to learn why dont use it. you are only calling the bad things about being the top 1% what are the good things about it? if peopl expect alot of you you probaly gonna do way better than the rest. besides that what are you doing in your freetime not alot i think? those people have talent and they are using it, with learning all day.
POWER IS KNOWDLEDGE(sorry for my shitty english)
my personal opinion about this is, that i want to be among the top 1% its the feeling that you are better than your comrades. in economy they say ''scary you need to make choice between things sometimes money sometimes time''. if i had the choice to choose iwould like to be the top 1% maybe for the experience maybe for the honor that you are better than 99%
"I wonder if I can reach beyond my own and meet the expectations of others too" - I feel the same way T_T (Of course, they are much better than me). After graduation, I feel disappointed about all of me (jobs, appearance, bad habits, networks,....). And I think I let my parents, my friends, my relatives,... down. It's really hard to get rid these kind of thoughts...
If See-Un hasn't gone to that college,it probably isn't that great.
and then you remember the SAT video...

Zero hope of getting into a good college.
me too girl... me too
The feels the feels
PSAT doesn't determine whether you get into a good college. xD It's more like a bonus to good colleges. Focus on SAT and ACT scores and your GPA!
Sailor Mon what about the quality of education?
The new overwatch comp line-up looks intimidating
You didn't have to go that hard vro
BoBoThatMonkey HAHAHAAHAHAHA
I'm actually working my way to attend a top national school, the most favorite major too. So it'll basically be a miracle if I can somehow join. Watching this actually enlightened me. Like, everything's actually so simple. Though not extremely simple, it's not an impossible thing. Still, I need to strive my best and let God do the rest ('w')/❤

김동주 what source is this from?
Based on preference of Korean university.
Although This data is not authorized, most Korean agree about this data.
김동주 ok I though it looked a bit off based on other rankings I've seen and on personal experience
김동주 but mostly makes sense to me as well
In my country, the Philippines, some people are somewhat into these trend of getting college diploma from prestigious uni like University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila, De La Salle University and University of Santo Thomas (also Silliman University in Dumaguete) but our parents are not that crazy to force everyone to try out in those uni because the tuition fees and living expenses in Manila are too expensive for average Filipinos.
Namjoon could have been here but he is busy saving the music industry TT and the youth.
Lol
what does BTS have to do with this??
I think she mentioned it because Namjoon has an IQ of 148, or at least when they tested him in highschool, and he passed the exam they were talking about in this video as top 1.3%. Means, if he'd hve scored 0.3% higher he could've also went to this university.
But well, he wasn't even fully studying at the time but preparing for BTS debut, so I guess that's why Taeseok kiwi wrote he is busy instead with music.
King Karasu II namjoon, when he was in high school was ranked in the top 1% just like these students. He also has and iq of 148
@King Karasu II RM/Namjoon has an IQ of 148, he is incredibly smart as shown in one of their videos where BTS have to solve a question, and Namjoon is the only one that figures it out.
