Matthew 15:13-14 13 But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted. 14 Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”
Matthew 15.10 And he called the people to him and said to them, “Hear and understand: 11 not what goes into the mouth defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”
I hear you but consider this. Chapter 7 is about God's wrath against sin. When God says, in Scripture, to do something then do it completely. That's what I understand it to mean.
I think Joshua 7 is fearful, but it is good. Achan and his family being burned sounds harsh/severe, but it just, "...because he has trespassed against the covenant of Yahweh, and because he has committed a disgraceful thing in Israel" (part of verse 15 of Joshua 7, LSB). It was explicit in Joshua 6 that they may not take anything "devoted to destruction." How much this situation should make us appreciate what Jesus did, for we too are deserving of the just wrath of God! We too have gone against what God has said. Notice that Achan recognized his sin, but he still had to be punished. Sin must be punished. We too can recognize our sin, but apart from Christ, the One who can free us from its penalty because of what He did, we will rightly receive the wrath of God. On the cross, perfect, sinless Jesus Christ endured the wrath of God due to sinners who will repent of their sins and trust in Him alone for salvation! He was PERFECT! If He had sinned, the punishment would be just for Him and He could not help us through it, but He never sinned; thus He took the wrath of God for my sins in my place, and His righteousness is credited to me (and to all those who truly repent and believe, which are gifts from Him) though I'm undeserving and didn't do anything to earn it! What an amazing thing to think on; what a gift! Thanks and glory to God, which is the purpose of sharing this!! My sincere apologies if I mishandled the word of God or misrepresented anything - please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this. Thank you for reading to us, Mr. Peters!

Joshua 7 is comparable to how we must follow Christ. We must enter His kingdom with nothing of the world.
That's what I got from it.
