The lumber would cost way more than just $60 where I live.
I bought my place and had to remodel almost everything in every room. Just one good quality sub floor board was over $80 itself

Great idea!! I was wondering, and let me say that hindsight is always better with that being said I'm wondering if just cutting out the first spindle would have been a good idea or would that have made the seat to deep because the sides would have been deeper for the seat. Not having ever made a bench like this before always wanted to try it.

I luv repurposing materials, but the wooden bench seat is lacking comfort imo.
the boards should have been rounded off up front at least and frankly their placement is wrong, should've stayed w horizontal placement and best to put a CUSHION on it to protect injury to legs and/or damage to clothing.
    the concept is great. though.
I do like the cinder block more but again, where is the seat comfort, sitting on wood beams??

Two screws on each side to hold the 2x4s are not going to have enough "shear" strength for people to sit on, not in my family LOL. The wooden bench would be more durable if you put the 2x4 seat supports on top of the side pieces (between the spindles) and secured them by screwing from the top of the board down into the side supports or using pocket holes on the side supports into the 2x4 underneath. Another idea is the put a cleat on each side (glued and screwed) of the side supports and then place the 2x4s on top of those, then screwed in from the top into the cleat (maybe toenail or pocket hole it into the cleat from the bottom). I like the look, but the construction could be improved a bit.
