It's 65 degrees this morning in west central Oklahoma and expecting high of 70 today. I have 14 laying hens, 2 roosters and 15 young hens that turned 20 weeks old today. Once they get to laying I will donate eggs to the elderly in my small town. Im almost 64 and on a fixed income but live with my daughter. Other older people are struggling to live on a fixed income. I donate to a local church run thrift store/food bank also. Im very blessed to not have to struggle. I have kept a journal for several years to help me keep up with when I plant and where. Also keep one for my chickens.

You are so right about micro climate. For past two years it’s been bone dry at my place. But I could see pouring rain across farm fields less than a half mile away. I could heavy rain on radar heading my way then diverting before getting here. This looks like an amazing weather station. I need to keep a journal on my garden and weather. I have not been doing this.

I found that keeping a journal on my garden allowed me to compare year after year from planting to harvest. We were able to forecast when we would be canning and what at what day. When we had all the trouble with chickens and eggs, the journal helped me sorts out the problems and counteract them one at a time.

It looks like spring has sprung for y’all! May He bless your crops, cattle, fields and ponds with such abundance that y’all can’t contain it, and y’all with more than enough health to keep up with it. We are starting to hear spring peepers, but we have a zone and a half difference between the ridge top and the ravine bottom and an abundance of microclimates, so we can’t trust that we are done with freezing in zone 6b.

I was actually looking up soil temperatures to see if I could plant peas. Of course I'll test it myself. Like you said, there are microclimates. I keep tract of gardening and weather event on our calendar. My husband was just asking me last night why I keep those old calendars. When I was first beginning my professional life as a chef, I learned the value of keeping a business journal. I lived in a tourist town in Florida. I learned it from a local chef that I’d worked for. He would consult it, daily. Included were things like weather, any local public functions, and the number of people that WERE SERVED that day. Volume of customers was of the most importance. Knowing how many people to prepare for was invaluable. It MAY vary 3-6 percent, but was really close, on that day, from year to year. Helped in scheduling labor and food prep. Unfortunately it doesn’t work in today’s economy, SO FAR. BUT I need a larger “sampling” and I think it’ll be accurate again. Will NOW have to include political and inflation markers, tho

Interesting and a lot of truth in what you said. Boyfriend was talking about global warming and climate change in the 60's and 70's. People thought that he was crazy then and guess what they still do. Every year the temperature seems to go up a bit. As far as rain last year we only got a tad more than five inches for the entire year. Fortunately and now everything on drip it has saved us a lot of water. We have started a journal of sorts for the garden. Better late than never? Also interested in the Professional Weather Station. Definitely worth looking into. You SO deserve a bountiful fruit harvest this year! (I’m excited for you). Thank you for sharing this foggy morning with us. The sounds of the birds….ah! I heard a crow in there too. I used to be annoyed by those loud “caws” until my local crows kept the hawks away from my hens! ❤️

I have actually watched crows drive off bald eagles. They won’t mess with golden eagles, because the eagle will flip upside down, grab a crow in its talons, and drop the DEAD crow as a warning to others.

Wow! That weather station is amazing! I'd love to have one of those. That would make it so easy to keep up with. And I know about microclimates lol I live in a holler and the temperature just at the top of my driveway is a lot warmer. But im protected more and it'll frost up there but not on me 😊😅❤️🙏 I've been learning alot from y'all at DSH and been subscribed to pecan grove in the start, much love from SE Kentucky ❤️

I started keeping a weather (only) journal last yr. I've been looking at that weather station for a while now. As I've looking at finding something that give me more accurate wind & rain accumulation. You mention microclimates, besides what's around our house, we literally change gardening zones about a mile-ish south of us. But we sit in between technically 3 weather station's, all of them are abt 5 miles away from us, 1 to the east, 1 to the south (our airport) & the other to the northwest. I argue with my dad about how it's not accurate. He's about 5 miles southwest of their airport weather station.
My son work's halfway between us & our airport weather station but to the east a mile or 2 off the main road & i forewarned him about a blizzard we were having & it was clear & where he was at, so not fair. Lol
But using something like your weather station, would be good to see how accurate our cheap unit is. But with the added benefit of knowing how much rain we're getting 😅
You should keep one over at deep south too, because even though you're doing the majority of the gardening at Pecan Grove, you should still keep track of the weather & what it's doing to effect the crops/tree's that are still at home.
Love the video, lot's of knowledge shared as always.
Congrats on the calves, they're adorable. We have 1 momma showing signs, but she won't do anything for abt a month. I've got 1 due in April, not sure about the other's. Have goat's that should kid in the summer.

Can those sprouts be used to make trees for others? Maybe sell some?

Danny I have a peach tree . It’s in my very large chicken pen . It has peach’s but they don’t get much larger than a golf ball , maybe a half size more. Then if they get soft they have a dime size peach color when it’s time for them to be ready . And the in side is a green color. I have cut it way back and this year I cut it to have just four main branches. And I open te middle more to give it more light . What can I do to make it have proper size eatable peaches .
