I am very impressed with your work! So much, I have begun to create this 3D Hero Quest. I got myself an SLA printer, followed all your steps, got the paints, and did exactly what you did from the first video and it looks near identical. However, I don't know the full technique to how you painted all your floors, the shading looks amazing! Do you have an other guides I could follow on youtube similar to how your did yours, and maybe a list of paint colors you used? Thank you so much for the tutorial, you gave me an awesome new project!
Many thanks for sharing this. It looks amazing! I am actually finishing printing and painting the HVAC set for Space Hulk and the next project is going to be a Heroquest board. Don't know if my Ender is going to last that long... 😆

Thx for the great videos! At time index 13:21 you place 2 wall pieces on floor tiles that do not seem to be magnetized for wall placement. How do they fit?
Hi There, Great channel, Always wanted to start this type of dungeon crawl. I did join the dragon rest for your heroquest rooms. I downloaded the c1 room and opened using CURA, however the 100% drawing exceeds the printable area for an Eder printer. How were you able to print this room without mis-aligning the rest of the walls? Thanks for the help.
I printed C1 on my Prusa MK3S which has a slightly larger print bed than the Ender. The Ender actually has a large enough print bed but the limiters prevent that from happening--you might want to google it because I know there is a way to override the limiter. Otherwise, you will need to slice the model and print as two pieces to glue later.
I love your version with the seperate rooms for its flexibility! Just having them as a slim version would be perfect! :P I like the pre-build HQ version but I would like to stay flexible as well for any future ideas :P

Man I want this system so bad. I love that its a investment that will last and can be used with many different game systems. sadly I don't have the time or money to invest in it. Plus I think my wife would kill me if I spent that much money on ball magnets. xD Also I don't have a 3D Printer so that is a issue as well. I did create my own tiles using Prints from my computer and gluing them to Chipboard which works really well though I still need to take Foam and make walls. Really cheap and gets the job done. :)
has me wondering if there are companies that will print files for you and how much of a premium they charge. The only other option is to buy a #d printer and invest the 100's of hours it takes to learn how to do it yourself.
This video is the reason that a year later I own an FDM 3d printer, a resin printer with a wash/cure machine and a 3'x3' Heroquest board that's too big for me to use in the house 😂😂😂 Oh the frustration of having to print it all over again but smaller 🤦🏻♂️
Hey champ. Love this so much! Working through printing it myself. I have the forbidden prints tile, but have no idea how to fuse the two together, could you give me a little help please?
Yeah, sure, go ahead and watch this tutorial for using MS 3D Builder (free): ruclips.net/video/h2Ept7pH2bY/видео.html In the video, I fill in the holes for the clips but I would suggest keeping them because it's helpful to be able to still clip it together. I just signed up for The Dragon's Rest patronage. Could you please share what magnets you purchased? I scrolled through the posts on the Patreon site however not really sure what to order (referenced 4.75mmx1.8mm) but I dont see that as a direct match anywhere when I search.. In another video you mentioned buying about a 1000 magnets etc. Thanks.
Hi, i followed your amazing work. It insipired me to subscribe for patreon downloading all the files. Now I printed all the base tiles (rooms and and hallways) belonging "002 Dungeon Set" folder and the clip system 2 (with hole, for ball magnets) . Now I'm going to print all the walls and doors (and other parts) but I don''t understand which CLIP SYSTEM for corner walls (and doors too) I need to print. Same problem for the secret doors...where i can find the pin to link wall with "wall door"? Thank you veru much
Hello sir! I was motivated by your videos to purchase my own Prusa printer and start making dungeon tiles. On your recommendation, I went with Dragon's Rest. I am a brand new Dragon's Rest patreon, but I cannot find the files for your ball magnet clips or the wall corner pieces you made. It seems a lot of the folders you reference in this video no longer exist in the DR patreon drop box. Thank you in advance for your help!
Email me at gbummer@gmail.com so I can send you some screenshots. The ball magnet clips aren't in my folder so I'll need to show you where to get the different files.

@@albertorenatobiancamano5208 Try cutting the central floor in half and print one half at a time and then glue them together if that works. I'm wondering about the size of the room on your build plate.

@@gislo Yeah, it looks like Ian restructured the folders. On his Patreon page, there are now two links, of which one is "Access the community remix drive." If you click on that (and use the same password), you will see my GamingGeek folder and all of my files there. Hope that helps!
It works for a lot of different dungeon crawlers but I've never played Dungeonbowl so I don't know what their map looks like. Also, I noticed your other question about settings--those print times are normal--I print at .2mm height at 10% infill and are getting the same print times.
Yes, but you can substitute two 4x2mm disc magnets instead and they will rotate around in the magnet clip holder. Much cheaper and easier to find than ball magnets at this point.
Sorry, there isn't a print list because I didn't keep track and just kept printing until the board was finished! But if you take a look at Ian's original guide (PDF) you can basically follow that as a print list for how many you need.
@@gaminggeek241 Hehe, very true. I got some quick quotes not too long after I made this comment and then went straight away to buy my own printer. As you say, way cheaper and then I can do other stuff with it as well.

Heya, i love this board and wish to print it for myself, Can i get the floors, walls, doors and the custom center piece all from dragon's rest patrteon, or are the floors someplace else?
You can get all of the items you need from Dragon's Rest with the options of thin floors (clips) or tall floors for magnets. Unfortunately the custom center floor is not available because it is a piece from Forbidden Prints. But I did create a center tile that is found in the Community Remix folder in Dragon's Rest files (instructions in the video).

@@gaminggeek241 thanks for the reply, and thank you so much for all your amazing content... So I printing the pre built tiles, and I reduced them to 80% cause at 100 they are huge.. At 80% the squares are still 1.25" from 1" on the new game board (just got my mythic kit).. why was it so big? I just want it to be close to the normal board so it scales with expansion tiles and furniture etc... One last thing then ill shut it.. with the walls on do you notice that some monsters don't fit down the narrow halls because their arms are out...i.e Gargoyle, some orcs? Yes, Ian created rooms for Craggy Keep, Wrath of the Shadowmage, Terror In the Tundra, and Brutal Legion. You gain access to all of those when you become a Patreon supporter.
Hi, I am on my way to print all your custom made tiles, they are great. Could you please put your corner pieces in the Remix folder also? You are showing them in your HQ part 1 video @3:50min ... This would help me sooo much. Thanks 😁
Yeah, I don't know if Ian will make it--although it would be fairly easy to do yourself with the floor tool and MS 3D Builder. Part of the problem is that the rooms are larger for Altar Quest so you can't print most of the rooms all in one shot. And the overall board is about 20% larger so it's a ton more tiles.
I'm going to try and build this board. I joined dragons rest and got the files. Could you tell me how many of the wall and corridor pieces that I need?
So silly question, I am looking for versatility in my dungeon print, and wanted to print a magnetized board to use with Heroquest, as well as Altarquest, and my home brewed D&D campaigns. Would you recommend using the pre-built rooms in your folder, or print the combined pieces in the parent folder of that and figure what is needed for each room? Thanks again for all the inspiration!
Good question, it really depends on how much flexibility you want versus ease of building since printing each square separately gives you the greatest flexibility but makes for longer build times. Also to take into consideration is how important it is to you that the floor tiles match--for example, if you look at my most recent Altar Quest video, I'm using only one type of tile so all the floors are the same but if you were to use the pre-built HeroQuest room boards from my folder, it would be a mishmash of tile types. If you aren't picky with the tiles matching, I would go with the pre-built rooms since it gives you some variety and some modularity making some room building quicker and then supplement with an assortment of individual tiles.
@@gaminggeek241 Thanks for the reply! Matching floors isn’t critical to me off the bat. I guess really this is step 1 in refreshing what I have. To date, I’ve printed quite a few dungeon pieces of Dragonlock tiles, but I find the clip method to be a bit cumbersome for on the fly campaigning, and the tiles don’t seem as versatile as these. Thanks again!
I´m building a board exactly like yours... but I´m having a hard time in painting the floors just like HQ. How did you make those shadows? Wash? Dry brush? Painted everything with a tiny brush and made glazes?
I spray primed everything with a dark gray and then drybrushed the colors on top of that so that the dark gray still provided shadows. No washes or glazes.
Awesome HQ-Upgrade! I still would love to see how you did the painting, may be only for one tile? It looks like you ran some paint in the recesses also, like a very thin wash? Did you use DecoArt paints all the way? Very nice painting! I am in the middle of printing that thing ;-) Thanx
I experimented and decided to keep the borders between tiles grey. I spray paint the entire thing dark grey and then brush on a layer of craft paint. Finally, I lighten the color (usually with white) and do some drybrushing. That's pretty much it.
Out of curiosity - how come you didn't print the boards in grey PLA? I've been a backer of the reprint of HQ since it was a KickStarter, and sincerely I've lost all hope the company will ever honor its commitment to the backers (given it's been five years waiting at this stage...) I play 99.9% of my games in either 10 or 15mm, so it should be even cheaper for me to print this board as it'll be slightly smaller than most would play on (as I also design and print my own gaming pieces and of course miniatures). This is an amazing project and advertisement for Ian's website and Patreon. Thank you for sharing this, I'm so glad I came across your channel.
Sorry to hear about the non-fulfillment with the KS. Did you pre-order from Hasbro? I don't print in grey because when the paint scratches off, it is too light and is noticeable so I print everything in black instead. playing in 15mm definitely makes for less printing time!
@@gaminggeek241 No it was a KS done years ago by a Spanish company called GameZone....total disaster, I doubt Hasbro will run into any issues of the sort. It'll likely not only make for less printing time but also having watched quite a few of your videos now, as an apartment dweller I struggle to field anything over 3x3' comfortably. I also design my own miniatures and will be launching a 10mm scale miniatures business in 2021, so I might just go one further and shrink it to 10mm outright to fit in with the rest of my range (at the moment I am doing some trials with EVA foam to see if the miniatures are too fiddly or small to manage serenely and consistently). Thank you for the top notch content, it's been a real pleasure following your progress and channel (however late to the party I might be!) Will definitely be looking forward to more content and developments.
No, sorry, I don't have a list but what I did was just print out the floors first and then the walls as needed. Use the 90 degree corners instead of the ones with the arches if you don't like those.
Which folder did you print the walls from for the slotted thin board? I printed entire thin slot board but when I printed some slotted walls they did not fit, as a matter of fact I tried putting 2 walls side by side on board and they didn't line up on the pegs. Didn't change size of either.
That's strange--as far as I know, there is only one option for the slotted walls. Sometimes, I have needed to use an exacto blade to cut the "elephant's foot" that happens with the first layer of the print due to it being "smooshed" flatter so that the hole is large enough for the slot. If this doesn't work, definitely post on the FB site as you gain the wisdom of the community: facebook.com/groups/648347062224719
@@gaminggeek241 ok thanks, I dont have any social media, I did send them an email though. Do you know what folder you got them out of? There are some walls that are in different folders
@@joelwebb4471 Here is the file path once you get into Dropbox: 002 Dungeon Set/Walls/DUN Wall A (or choose B if you don't want the metal band at the bottom). The SO files are the one you want, not the MO.
@@gaminggeek241 ok thanks, no I sent an email to Ian. I printed 10 walls at a time and only 1 wall fit with excessive force so i might print 1 wall and see if batch printing is the problem.
I like the shorter walls because you can see more of the board when you are sitting down at the table. But I did create a video showing how I converted other dungeon STL files to work with Dragon's Rest so it is super easy to have any wall type that you want: ruclips.net/video/h2Ept7pH2bY/видео.html
Looks awesome, as a quick question though can you use it and set it up in modular form so you dont need to set up full board but you can set up as per quest book room requirement ?
Yes, absolutely. If you skip to around the 12:00 mark, you will see that I configure the tiles any way that I want. This can certainly work for the HQ board where you only lay out the rooms as you need, and as the heroes explore.
Yeah, those are difficult to come by now because I think it is considered a hazard for kids who swallow them. You have to look around on ebay, Aliexpress, or Newegg and grab them when they are available.
Here's a question - how big is the board once printed? had been thinking about attaching to a board for storage. Or would it fit in a large Really Useful Box? Wanting the board badly, but got to think about where it will live 99% of the time it's not in use!
Sorry, I didn't keep count--I just kept printing until I filled up the board. But you can calculate using Ian's instructions because he has a list with the number of wall pieces. You would have to calculate the corners though by looking at the map.
Another question please, sorry to be a pain, but what tile have you used for the corridors here, is is a tile you created or is it the "DUN Floor D" tiles from Dragons Rest?
Yeah, sorry, it's hard to find. It's actually the floor from the Apothecary. Once in the Patreon dropbox, follow this file path: Community Remix\Gaming Geek\Apothecary Combined and you can get the hallways and border floors from there. For the 2-square wide hallways, I just place two of the single strips side by side.
@@gregfindon3386 No problem--I know I should make some kind of catalogue since there are no images of the STLs on Ian's Dropbox site--makes it hard to know what's in there. Tell me if you need any more help!
Will you be doing a Altar quest / HQ playthrough on these boards?. I believe both can be played in the solo variant , although dont quote me on that. Would love to see the board in action.
Yes, I will do either a gameplay or rules video for Altar Quest which is shipping right now! No HQ action until the reprint delivers next year. Altar Quest can definitely be played solo. HQ has fan-written rules to play solo.
Yes, this is still an option--head on over to Dragon's Rest Patreon page. I have links in the descriptions. And I'm not sure what you mean about the walls lining up? As you can see, all my walls line up fine.
@@gaminggeek241 cheers for the reply, 5min 30sec into the video when you're showing the prebuild you can see all the walls are off... For ease of print and time but looks messy and hallways are too thin that's the only thing stopping me from printing tbh

I really love the new look of your board as not only is it more colorful but the way you painted it to closly match the original HQ board makes it far more obvious that it's meant to be used with HQ at a glance. An idea I though you might want to consider to add to this project next to make it look more professional (as if it needs it) is a custom DM screen to go with your board (Maybe with dice towes) or Dashboards for your players (Note: I didn't know what a dashboard was until I bumped into this site a few days ago but after seeing it, I thought that's so clever. www.thingiverse.com/thing:3848748 )
Yeah, even if I had a merchant's license to sell Dragon's Rest stuff, I would have to charge close to $2K for this set due to how long it takes to print and paint everything. That's why I say it would be cheaper to buy your own printer ($300), PLA ($180), and magnets ($200).

Yes only the people interested in the nostalgia will buy it. Like you said “it’s a kids game”. For adults, it’s total garbage compared to modern Dungeon Crawlers. Thx for the great videos! At time index 13:21 you place 2 wall pieces on floor tiles that do not seem to be magnetized for wall placement. How do they fit?
Yes, there are no magnets in the floor there so they are just sitting on top. Not a big deal but they could fall over if you bump them.

This video is the reason that a year later I own an FDM 3d printer, a resin printer with a wash/cure machine and a 3'x3' Heroquest board that's too big for me to use in the house 😂😂😂

I wonder if Dragonrest will do an Altar Quest board in the 101 format. That might be tricky, but a cool team-up.
@@gaminggeek241 yeah, fair points, I'll stick with the board it comes with.
I'm going to try and build this board. I joined dragons rest and got the files. Could you tell me how many of the wall and corridor pieces that I need?
I don't have a build list but Ian has one as a pdf with all the stl files.
@@gaminggeek241 ah, brilliant. I'll check that out. I got a lot of stuff to make dungeon tiles anyway.
How do I sign up to play at your house?
I've been a backer of the reprint of HQ since it was a KickStarter, and sincerely I've lost all hope the company will ever honor its commitment to the backers (given it's been five years waiting at this stage...)
I play 99.9% of my games in either 10 or 15mm, so it should be even cheaper for me to print this board as it'll be slightly smaller than most would play on (as I also design and print my own gaming pieces and of course miniatures).
Thank you for the top notch content, it's been a real pleasure following your progress and channel (however late to the party I might be!)
Will definitely be looking forward to more content and developments.
I'd like to see you play the game with your friends using that board.
Is there a list of your printed compnents? The guide seems to include the curved corners.
I'd love to see your attempt at creating a flexible magnetic set for Arena: the Contest/Tanares Adventures.
Does Dragons Rest have an option of full sized walls instead of these half sized looking ones?
They do not, but these walls are more 75% than 50%. They are a pretty good balance. The squares are also a little larger than normal size tiles too.
I like the shorter walls because you can see more of the board when you are sitting down at the table. Yes, absolutely. If you skip to around the 12:00 mark, you will see that I configure the tiles any way that I want. This can certainly work for the HQ board where you only lay out the rooms as you need, and as the heroes explore.
@@gaminggeek241 hi thanks for that yes just watched the total vid :) Awesome work wish I was local and could commision you to make me one lol

How many walls did you 3D print to for the enitre Board?
How many walls did it take to finish the entire board? corners wall pieces, single wall pieces, dual wall pieces?
