Same, at this point it feels like I could have full-on conversations with people about penises as if I had one on my own.
I once saw a video of an infant being circumcised and it's disturbing. The child was not under anesthesia and it screamed in pain the whole time. Given that circumcision is only necessary in cases of phimosis I can't justify putting an infant through so much pain. Not to mention that you're taking the choice away from them.
Circumcision should be a choice, if you grow up and decide you don't like your foreskin you should be able to get it removed, just like how we treat other body modifications like tattoos, piercings etc. Tattooing or piercing a baby would be considered wrong in American culture but circumcision is arguably a more intense form of body modification, so why are we okay with it? (I know some people pierce their child's ears too and I also disagree with it.)
Also I don't get the concern over appearance, as a straight woman I've never cared how a dick looks, it's not like my vagina sees what's going on down there. Plus when an uncircumcised penis is erect the foreskin rolls back anyways. That's from the perspective of a partner in a relationship of course which isn't as important as how you view yourself, mind.

Piercing a child's ear isn't as bad as it sounds. You're not poking through cartilage and the process is quick and heals faster than piercing an older child. My mom pierced my earlobes herself and I don't even remember it happening or the pain associated with it. I've never had problems with it and believe it or not, many other children probably don't either. Plus it lets you put it earrings without any pain or struggle if you want. My mom just makes the spot numb by ice and uses a sterile hot needle to poke through, it really isn't that bad and I would trust it more than going to a Claire's or a Justice store.
Now, I don't know about circumcision, but piercing isn't on the same level of it and it really doesn't have consequences unless you do it wrong.
@@carolinacoreas7716 The greater point I was making is that parents shouldn't be choosing body modifications for their children. Just because you like your ear piercings doesn't mean everyone who gets their ears pierced as an infant does. Parents don't own their children's bodies and they should respect that and let their kids decide what body modifications they want. But a lot of parents act like their kids are miniature versions of themselves, not separate people who may want something different than them, so they decide for their child before the child can even form an opinion. It's unfair.
Saw the title and some of the comments on this video and thought I'd get my two cents in on the subject. As a man who was circumcised without his consent as a newborn, I never put much thought into just what had been taken from me and most of those around me (American), but when I started looking into the topic and reading up on just what the foreskin is, I grew more and more concerned with the act and the way it's forced onto children internationally. For starters, the foreskin contains the highest concentration of nerve endings on the penis, and it provides a natural layer of protection to the "glans" of the penis which keep them sensitive and unexposed to the elements. The latter function might not sound like much, but a process known as "keratinization" occurs in circumcised males - where a layer of keratin forms over the penis head as a means of protecting it. This keratin makes the penis head rougher, more leathery, and keeps it dried out as a means of protection - and yes, this serves a dual function of decreasing sensitivity. So all in all, circumcision does lead to less sensitivity - a somewhat famous quote from a doctor featured in the "American Circumcision" documentary fits in pretty well here - "A circumcised man doesn't have a postage stamp's worth."
Along with the lack of sensitivity though, there's also another aspect that needs to be addressed, and that's the mental aspect of circumcision. As early as the 1920's doctors were speculating as to the negative mental toll that circumcision could have on people - both young and old - but with the advent of modern statistics and technology - we now have the ability to measure it's effect on people. For example: There was a study conducted in which an infant was circumcised inside of an MRI scanner to observe any noticeable changes. They couldn't use metal implements, so they used an obsidian knife that had been sharpened until it met the criteria, and then proceeded with the operation. The Infant was not anesthetized, this is commonly how circumcisions for infants take place worldwide - albeit not in an MRI scanner and with a scalpel. Immediately after the procedure the doctors noticed immediate and significant trauma to the baby's brain,the greatest changes occurred in the limbic system concentrating in the amygdala and in the frontal and temporal lobes. This trauma did not go away, it was and is permanent. This trauma extends to adults who are circumcised too. Studies of men who were circumcised as babies found that it was not uncommon for them to experience symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, anger, and intimacy problems. Along with this, the majority of men who were circumcised as adults describe the operation as traumatic, and some even go so far as to take their own lives because of it - see the case of one "Alex Hardy", he's the first article from the BBC when you google "Circumcision Suicide".
All in all, circumcision undeniably has negative side effects, physically and mentally, and it is a disgusting travesty that this blatant mutilation is forced on newborns by their parents. I thank god that we live in an era where the spread of information has allowed for people to spread information on just how vile and brutal this operation is, but when I hear people casually joking around about it, and making light of something that is forced onto thousands upon thousands of children internationally without their consent it boils my blood. What makes this whole situation worse is that the doctors profit from the operation twice. Once from mutilating the newborn, and twice from the sale of the "neonatal tissue".

If you were circumcised against your will as a child and "want it back" I suggest looking into "foreskin restoration" - the process of creating a "faux skin" by routinely stretching the skin at the scar up and over the penis head. It's done wonders for me, physically and mentally.

That's such an uneducated statement, there's nothing wrong with smegma. It's just dead skin cells that group up in skin folds, it's referring to the buildup of dead skin cells around the male and female genitalia but this can occur within 24 hours. It happens non stop and visually as I mentioned it can be seen sometimes after only 24 hours.
I think you're referring to some sort of massive buildup which clearly indicates a lack of personal hygiene but yes, every woman and uncircumsized man has smegma and there's nothing wrong with it.

I think you're somewhat unaware of what the anti circumcision movement is about.
The bottom line is that this practice is painful Genital Mutilation done to helpless babies. The fact that it is legal in first world countries is baffling (Well, mostly because of religious practices).
I believe that if you'd come to do your own research, you'd come to the same conclusion - that it is a barbaric practice on par with Female Genital Mutilation.
And btw to counter a point made in the video- it is your parents' right to pick your name or what you eat, but not to harm your body's integrity. After all, it's illegal to scar or tattoo your child if he's under 18 (even with consent). There really is a rabbit hole going into it(better enjoyment of natural penis for both sexes during intercorse, erectile dysfunction or other issues for the cut), but that's not for a RUclips comment.

You can easily quantify it. Both with medical and very scientific testing, and simple practical testing. Just ask any non circumcised man to pull it back and let it sit like that for a few hours and see how it feels after. Chances are they'll tell you it feels dry and chafed, with lost sensitivity, as expected from leaving it exposed to air.
Which incidentally is also why it's, contrary to popular belief, less hygienic to be circumcised as you're effectively exposing it to the air 24/7 and all bacteria and particulates in it. This isn't a case of men and women having fundamentally different bodies, it's very possible for a man who was not circumcised to experience the circumcision life, both temporarily and permanently.

The point of my question is to highlight the fact that there was possibly another approach rather than simply doing what they did and that what they did can be critiqued or even looked at as a mistake. To say one should be happy and not be upset is just insane

The only people who can really know what you lose by getting snipped are those who get it done as adults, so they've lived both with and without. But since most of them will have gotten it done for medical reason, it might still show a bias.
You can study nerve endings and it’s been found that the foreskin has many nerve endings, AND the foreskin protects the head, keeping it more sensitive.
Without a foreskin not only do you lose the nerves in the foreskin, but the head loses sensitivity as it adapts to daily friction (such as in pants). Have you heard of men having issues with sex with women because they jerk off with a “death grip?” This is because their penis adapts to that amount of friction, so less friction is not going to be stimulating. Circumcision causes this on a smaller scale. Not only this, but the skin on the head will develop a sort of covering, I believe the process is called “keratinization”? (Been a while since I read up on this) which basically encapsulates the head to protect it, and ALSO can reduce sensitivity.
