This series has been EXACTLY what I’ve wanted. I’ve watched SO many videos on how to measure (same basic hip, waist, bust, etc) and you have them ALL in a funny and easily understandable way. Thank you SO MUCH.
Thank you! So far I have them only available in the group, but as soon as my website is up again, I will post them there for download too. If you want, I can give you a heads up as soon as they're available 😋
Thank you so much for your videos! I do have one question. There are two darts that intersect the final bust line so shouldn't we have to add the width of those two darts to the final bust line length? Looking forward to your reply! Thank you again!!
From the calculations, it's already considered. And also, the intersection doesn't happen on the widest part of the bust area, so it's ok. Your final bust line should be on the high figure point :D
Oops one more question if you would be so kind as to answer. After connecting the side waist to the Final Bust line, the Bust Line 2 width where the side dart is becomes smaller than the bust measurement due to the angle to the waist. Should I go straight down from the AH final bust line point to the Bust line 2 so the width of the bust area is correct to measurements, and then after that angle down to the waist?? Hope this makes sense! @@Seamstressed
If the difference is too big (which can happen if you have a bigger chest and smaller waist) you can try that out and see how it looks, sometimes the body will dictate the fit better than the formula. If your difference is not too big, just ignore it 😉
Thanks sovide much for your prompt reply. I have really enjoyed your moulage, sloper and sleeve videos and watched them many times! Any plans for any more drafting videos? @@Seamstressed
So is this a moulage i.e. with little to no wearing ease? I assume if yes then you would take a next step to draft a Block for design purposes with some wearing ease?
the third bust line comes from adding the size of the side dart to the side seam line (If you have the pdf, check the chart to see which one you will need). It will bump the Bust line up, so you have - SIDE LENGTH + DART LENGTH . I hope I was able to help :)
Oh no! I didn't get the notification for your question over on FB. Sorry about that. I would suggest you go with the D darts and test it out if they are enough for you (they generally are 😁 ) As to your armscye, I'd suggest you remove from the side seam before on the armpit raising the shoulder - just remember that the moulage will be really really snag, so unless you have a lot of fabric bunching up in the armhole, wait until you have the final sloper to make the final alterations after adding the ease :)
Good morning, I signed up to your channel and made the request on Facebook to be able to download the PDF file but my subscription has not yet been approved. Can you post the PDF on RUclips? Congratulations for your videos
Hi! So sorry about that. Facebook is supposed to add people automatically. I will take care of that now. I can't post files here, but you can also download it on the website directly: www.theseamstressed.com :D
Sure thing! They are also available for free at my website theseamstressed(dot)com :) You have to "buy" them - they're actually free, but the website didn't allow me just to put something up for download without having the whole annoying check-out process :D
Did you learn this way from a book? If so what book? Also what books would you recommend? Any ones that aren’t well known to the USA that work really well and that are simple? I have a translator on my phone I can use if it’s not in English too.
I learned the basics in patterning class one hundred years ago and the most advanced stuff I always refer to Suzy Furrer's book: www.apparelartsproductions.com/ebook
Mine is one inch above the belly button and I did't have to mess the calculations too much . 3 inches seems a bit much though. I will make some research on this and I will get back to you, but for now, I suggest you keep use the belly button as a reference for the first draft and see how the fit goes. Try sewing a first moulage as test and let me know how it goes. I will get back to you once I have found more info on your issue :D
Hello. This is the method shown in Suzy Furrer’s “Pattern making basics - the bodice sloper” class which you can find on Craftsy. I don’t know whether you learned it via her classes or not, but I honestly don’t find it fair to get the knowledge from paid classes and then share it for free on RUclips. This in no way shape or form supports the original instructor. And yes, I am well aware that this woman’s intention wasn’t to quote unquote “discredit” the original instructor, but rather just to share her knowledge and make the classes accessible to everybody. This specific class costs $39,99, but Craftsy almost always offers heavy discounts and sometimes gives them out for free even, so do with that what you will. I’m not trying to be a jerk, I’m just trying to pay respects to the original instructor, as I’m sure Craftsy would’ve appreciated a link in the description box to the original class, which by the way comes with very useful bonus materials and vital tips and tricks from an industry professional.
Hi there! This way of calculating basic blocks is based on different methods I learned throughout the years and Suzy's method is included as well, but not her method alone. I think I failed to mention it in this video, but I do recall saying something in the other vids in the series. It's been a long time. I didn't take her classes, but I do own her book and use it all the time (if you watch any of my livestreams or newer videos, you will see I talk about her all the time - the is the patterning goddess of all times ♥). I use a lot of her terminology because I learned everything in Brazil (I am from there) and in Portuguese, so the first contact I had with patterning terms in the English language was after reading her book. I have to re-watch this after your comment and check the credits (if I give any), but after seeing the description, you are right - I have to put a link to her book there (again, the new ones have it already, but I stoopid self apparently forgot about it lol). Thanks for the heads-up. Another great patterning book I use is Winifred Aldrich's "Metric Pattern cutting for women's wear".
Hey! Thanks for doing that! I hope my comment didn’t come off as too rude, my intention wasn’t to roast you at all :)! Thanks for taking the time to add the links
How can I eliminate the sound effects. They kind of break my concentration and give me a headache (sorry I don't mean to be critical) it is just me, I am fighting cancer and the meds make sounds seem very, very LOUD. I love your videos and I want so badly to make a sloper so I can create my own patterns and dresses.
oh nooo! so sorry about that. maybe you could try watching it on mute with the CC on? It's the auto-generated one, so I am not sure how accurate it will be with my accent lol

Yaaaay! Glad it was helpful!
The blueprint of my bacon!!! I need a lot of paper for that!!!!
I highly doubt that, Fräulein! You're the perfect amount of bacon 🥓 😍
Awesome and fun
One day I´ll force my mushy brain to do this.... thank you for the tutorial. It looks a lot easier to me than others I already suffered through...
You can do it!
Please show me how to transfer to the sloper
I am not sure i understood your question right. Do you mean transform the moulage into the final sloper? 😊
And my side seam is 10 1/2 inch so it's coming very close to across front line. Very confused. Please help
That's odd. Have you checked all your measurements for the guide lines?
Mine is really large too. Did you find out what was wrong?
Loving this tutorial! Is there away to access the download if we do not have a Facebook?

Correct. There are more videos in this series on how to add the ease and make a sloper out of the moulage :D
Thanks for this video. I still don't understand where the 3rd bust line came from. Can you explain that again?

Thought I could cheat my way out of all the math. Apparently not😩🍷
Believe me, I tried. The only consolation is that you don't have to recalculate every time. It's a one-time suffering only 😅
