    A bit sad to see all the three in the end having so much fun and knowing they are all gone now. Anyway, it's really nice that these scenes survived :)

      Indeed, I have adored this film for ages but never saw this footage before. The final scene filled me with such heartache and melancholy, knowing they have all passed as you mention, yet I'm so grateful to see this light and joyful moment.

    I just discovered this film on TCM. I am a big fan of foreign films. It is the best foreign film I have ever seen. I sent a message to TCM to run "Faraway, So Close". Seeing these cut scenes was very interesting and entertaining. As another person posted, your voice is very soft and soothing. Thank you very much for a great film.

    In comparison to the other actors, it's weird how there is so little information out there on who Solveig Dommartin was. I would really be interested in knowing what she got up to in the last 10 years of her life and why she virtually vanished from public life after the mid 90s.

    • @Daniel-ow2io
      @Daniel-ow2io 29 дней назад +1

      Solveig Dommartin was born on May 16, 1961 in Constantine, Constantine, France [now Algeria]. She was an actress and director, known for Wings of Desire (1987), Until the End of the World (1991) and Faraway, So Close! (1993). She died on January 11, 2007 in Paris, France.
      Learned circus acrobatics and performed on the trapeze for her feature film debut, 'Wings of Desire', without using a stunt double.
      Was the life companion of Wim Wenders and later, during the last three years of her life, of actor Jean-Claude Vogel.
      Had a daughter named Venus, with sets painter Dominique Antraygues.
      Associated with the films of Wim Wenders.
      Acted in legit theater with the Compagnie Timothee Laine and Theater Labor Warschau.
      I copied this from Internet Movie Database.

      It was in the remains of the Hotel Esplanade, which didn't survive the construction of the new Potsdamer Platz, except for the displaced panels of wall ornamentation of a presumably "protected" room, that ended up being moved to the Sony Center.

    7:35 The St.-Matthäus church is NOT "the only building that survived the bombing in the area" as claimed: in fact, the House of Tourism (Haus des Fremdenverkehrs) stood right next to it, nearly undamaged until it was demolished in the early 1960s for ideological reasons. Germans are known to have a certain fondness for retrofitting history, as the director himself proves in his commentary.
