I listened to this song over and over again the first time I heard it. The old singer quit, Tristania can't just give up because a few members left. If you don't like this song listen to some other songs from their new albums, than decide if you still like the band or not. Their style really hasn't changed that much.
uleavemecold yeah, the same thing happen to me. The first time that I listened I just replay it in my laptop over and over again, and I still don´t get over this song. It´s Awesome, and I don´t Know why the people is so mean with the singer when she do her best.
I love this album. Yeah. At first I hated it because she is so much different than Vibeke, but over time, she's grown on me. I love her for putting out an entire album with a new style that is very unique and improving the discography. It's just like with Lacrimas Profundere. Change has a tendancy to appear very negative at first, but then work it's way in and be just as beautiful. I'm extremely excited for the new album now. I hope yet again she delivers for this beautiful band.

No matter what Vibeke brought to Tristania in the old days, I think that this song with this singer is really great. I can't imagine it with Vibeke's voice and be that good or better but I can be wrong haha Anyway, rather that feeling pity for one person not being in a band, one should try to understand what the band was willing to transmit. Can't wait to hear the new Cd ^_^

I am not the lad that started listening to this awesome music years ago, how should I expect that these people remain exactly like they were? Bands evolve. If you don't like it, fine, it's your business. But that doesn't mean the band is bad in any way. Too many people long for their Widow's weed age. I like that album, and it's good in its own way. But if Tristania had remain that way, they would have been yet another Theatre of Tragedy clone band. And the fact that they are an evolving band, which explores new sounds in every album is what I like of them. And what I loved about this album (even though it's not my personal favorite) is that they managed to remain Tristania while going with a different sound which suits perfectly to Maria's voice. I still think this is an awesome song.
I disagree with your ToT comment, but I think Tristania did a great job through out to remain high quality music. If I see Nightwish, for instance, I think the Band didn't really grow. They might changed the singer, but with Once, it's basically the same...bore....so, yes this is great. Great sound, great change! I still love the old ones better, just because of the doom metal influences.
I run through a stage in my life where every single band I listened to was (quasi) lyrical (mezzo) soprano, a dude doing growls, and the standard band set (2 guitars, bass, drums and synths) and they did almost the same music. I can hardly remember names right now, because it's been so many years and just a few of them remain in my playlists, because those were the ones who stand above the rest, with a distinguishable sound. So my comment goes that way :c

Afer Vibeke left Tristania, I was in fear what new singer they would choose and that they would change their style completely, so that it sucks. As I saw the presenting vid of Mary, I thought "OMFG, Tristania are dead". Then I saw the live version of this song, and I fell in love with new Tristania. I am not disappointed about what I heard in the teasers. And I´m sure they will go on making such perfect, awesome music. Mary has a very very very good voice, it fits perfectly with the music.
Tristania is only band that followed my taste and my personal changes through years. I liked widows weeds when I was 16, and also Rubicon when I was 26... I can't see any problem with it. But you just have to grow up a little. I don't form my opinion about my favorite bands, they are my opinion, they make my opinion about other music.

RIP one of the best Gothic Metal bands ever. I support change almost every time, but this feels hollow and superficial, it became one of those bands that just took the easy way and gives all the attention to the female singer.
It's funny, she's from Sardinia island in Italy and I lived there 10 yrs, I know the village she comes from and I'm happy a woman from such a small italian village has managed to go that far as to sing for a norwegian band 😊
This is not the same Tristania, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Actually "Darkest White" is one of the most solid albums this year. And Mary rocks (when she's not trying to sing the old songs :P)
That's the point! Remember, what most (?) of us incl. me did to Anette Olzon, giving her no real chance ? ... But also don't forget, what Tuomas & Co. did to her by treating her like a substitute, even letting her sing Tarja's old songs, provoking the fans to compare. Again no chance for her. New singers need a "new" band, new songs, revolution instead of little slight changes, perhaps even new fans, if the old refuse to follow! A step, only few musicians bands dare to make.
I think that's unfair - Rubicon is a fantastic album. Widow's Weeds and Beyond the Veil are unmatchable masterpieces, but I personally prefer this to the preceding albums. Annette-Nightwish was the same band with a clearly inferior singer - Tristania had at this point diverged much from the first albums' sound.
I personally LOVE "Evenfall", from their first album "Widow's Weeds". There is an official video made with live extracts (but not only). A very epic song. In a completely different genre, you have Equilibrium (there's a video too), it's from their 4th album Ashes, it's not symphonic anymore, it has no grunts, just Vibeke's and Osten's voices. You can try both songs to see in what style you prefer her and the band. :) I can also recommend "Opus Relinque" from the 2nd album "Beyond The Veil" :)
Vibeke is a great singer and made awesome music with Tristania but I think Mariangela is also a wonderful singer and the music she is making with Tristania is also full of passion and inspiring to listen to. It is a new sound, you guys need to expand your horizens.
Obviously, Tristania has experienced a new way of sound, because of its new added elements and its new female singer. In spite of this change, I could still get the essence of the band. Of course, this band has done what most of gothic metal bands do..., to get into the new wave of gothic metal style (which I should call: New Gothic Rock Wave). Anyway, I consider it a good new wave gothic song....!

This is actually pretty good. It doesn't sound like old Tristania, more like a darker rock sound. Couldn't see the old school fans liking this but its interesting, better than the goth pop sound a lot of these bands end up pursuing.

I highly doubt Simone will ditch Epica unless her voice gives out. As far as I can see, the entire band gets along swimmingly. Singing though on long tours does have an effect on singers that can wear out their voices if they don't take steps to conserve it.

I like her voice , they sometimes tend to over do the digital effects, but the age of analog is gone so it's bound to happen. But her voice is actually amazing even on the mic.
She's not a bad singer. Problem is the band is bad nowadays. Even if Vibeke were the singer, with this style, the song would suck anyway, maybe worse, thing about soprano with this sound... Tristania began to change after Morten leave, but it was 13 years ago and cry will change nothing. Also Sirenia became shit too, so it would not make any diference... And after Ashes it became definitely another band... Good for who like the new style. Bad for who like the old, like me. BTW, nice vid.
This is from their new album 'Rubicon', there's like 1 guy left who were originally in the band. All the other albums are either solid or simply amazing.

I didn't like this iteration of tristania at first, as this deviated from their original sound but I can say that the song has grown on me

Tristania are still a good band , not great , but very good and still one of my fav. bands.
People are going to complain no matter what, I think her voice is a very good match for the direction the band is going in.

Always something amazing. You can't compare the style that Tristania has to offer. They always want to offer something from the norm.
This is actually pretty good. It doesn't sound like old Tristania, more like a darker rock sound. Couldn't see the old school fans liking this but its interesting, better than the goth pop sound a lot of these bands end up pursuing.

As I wrote elsewhere, this happens with any band that changes radically their style. The fact is that Vibeke Stene is an accomplished soprano and when she was the lead singer Tristania made some impressive songs. Mariangela may be a good singer in her own right, but she can't match Vibeke. The fact is that Tristania has ostracised their old school fans when they brought Mariangela in. They will never perform the old songs again, they will never write similar songs again. And who can perform those songs live? They are copyrighted. So yes, some people are upset, and they have good reason to be upset. Give it a go. Listen to Beyond the Veil and World of Glass. It's beautifully done.

I highly doubt Simone will ditch Epica unless her voice gives out. As far as I can see, the entire band gets along swimmingly. Singing though on long tours does have an effect on singers that can wear out their voices if they don't take steps to conserve it.
I completely agree. She's got a powerful voice that fits perfectly with the newer songs but let's face it they should avoid playing the old songs :P

I like her voice , they sometimes tend to over do the digital effects, but the age of analog is gone so it's bound to happen. But her voice is actually amazing even on the mic.

This girl is a dream...
She's not a bad singer. Problem is the band is bad nowadays. Even if Vibeke were the singer, with this style, the song would suck anyway, maybe worse, thing about soprano with this sound... Tristania began to change after Morten leave, but it was 13 years ago and cry will change nothing. Also Sirenia became shit too, so it would not make any diference... And after Ashes it became definitely another band... Good for who like the new style. Bad for who like the old, like me.
