I am building a pick and place machine and now working only with smd tapes placed on the board area for loading of the parts. Can you give me some information about how your machine works? I see that on the drag feeder there's only one step motor responsible for all spools of the tape peeling, how only one step motor can select and peel the tape of the reel being placed? There's some kind of clutch or mechanism inside the spools that does this?

Friction rings this is quite hard to do yourself as they have engineered the whole solution and spent a lot of money on it
This machine has air-Ionizer to reduce ESD during pick the component?

That is not usually too big of a problem if the head is connected to ground it often mitigate the risk
