I say this every time but the editor had to put 5 totally separate recordings together of people that harmonized without hearing each other sing. Then he had to put 5 different videos shot from 5 different houses and make them sound and look excellent. Kirstie said that for the first time they each had to listen to their own recording back in their own house until they each got the take they wanted. What totally blows my mind is that they each harmonized this well without hearing even one other voice. Yes I know the sound engineer is amazing too, but they have to have the harmonies to put together first.
This was part of their quarantine project, where each member recorded their own audio (and video) and sent the recording to their producer (and editor) to combine. The bass in this one is Matt, he joined the group in spring 2018, after the departure of the original bass Avi in Sept 2017.
Avi was with them for 7 years and left as he needed time with his family. He’s done a few singles & collabs with some other groups. “Change On the Rise” is my favorite song by him. It sounds like it should be on the show Yellowstone or something. Matt auditioned and got the gig. He can pull off the low notes and can sing well in baritone as well. He also does well on camera so he’s been doing great! My faves with Matt (that I didn’t see on your playlist) are: Come Along (a quirky song I’ve never heard before!) Sound of Silence. Can You Feel the Love Tonight. You’re A Mean One Mr Grinch. Subscribed 🙌🏼
They each recorded themselves at their respective homes. They shot their videos on their iPhones. They had to learned how to use Pro Tools and other recording equipment to do these songs and videos at their respective homes. They were proud of their new tech skills.
SUPRISE ! This was RECORDED AT HOME, for this whole album, each song from each person's home during quarantine. They are magnificent. They did a mash up of "HOME" songs, Blinding Lights by The Weekend, and more. Check them out and you'll love it ! Thank you for your top notch reactions ! :)
you're going on about the sound engineer - who's a magician, yes, working with excellent material - but what does it mean when they sound just as good live?
I love Kevin's beatboxing, but the few songs where they break out the solid 5-part harmony are really amazing. I suggest you try their cover of "Can't Help Falling in Love" (Elvis song). It's amazing. ruclips.net/video/YSkHIv7GhOM/видео.html
Just remember when they perform live they sound the same. They don't use any tracks or engineering special effects. It's all their talent and their voices.
@@sean1849 you would know it's not true if you actually attended a concert or saw the live video where they were in a dressing area/bathroom where they broke into song for a small group of people.
I can't wait for you to see them live. Until then, check out the making of their Christmas Album Evergreen. Many questions will be answered.
I'm more than impressed with the bass note Matt holds through the first verse ! That guy has two sets of lungs for sure.... another alien...yep ...

Appreciate your growing respect for their vocal talent! Their new original just dropped. Happy Now, which they recorded a year ago. it’s so FUN!

AVI left the group in 2017 MATT replaced him.
They are great but I still miss Avi Kaplan, the OG Bass vocalist.
I agree, Matt is really great but Avi was just my personal favourite.
My favorite is the man singing with the group
