I’m a huge fan of Beagle. He has an interesting backstory as well. You are suddenly seeing new editions and new books from him because the lawsuit he was involved in settled last year and he got all the rights to his books back. I’m excited to read his newest release. SubT also released one of his this week. Both are on my June TBR.

Collapse by Jared Diamond is an eye-opener about the reasons why so many civilizations eventually collapsed, like the Vikings on Greenland, the Mayan of Central America, Easter Islanders, Mesopotamian empires, etc. All of them had something to do with environmental degradation and exploitation, like overgrazing, deforestation, and soil erosion. It might be where we are headed at present.
That does sound like an eye-opening book indeed! I loved the way he presented his ideas in Guns, Germs, and Steel, and so I am quite looking forward to this one!
that thrawn trilogy is such a treat. I read those last year as my first Star Wars books ever and I felt like I was watching an unreleased sequel trilogy that followed the originals. amazing!

Glad to hear though that Hamilton worked for you at some point! He's not someone I see mentioned much at all on Booktube or goodreads in my sphere, and I think a lot of the epic hard sci-fi authors like Hamilton, Vinge, Banks, and Reynolds occupy their own little niche I haven't really broken into in the sff fandom. And yeah the Dragon Mage special is something else -- you'd have to find someone selling their kickstarter edition to get your hands on it unless she ever does a reprint. Hopefully more authors do that hidden fore-edge art!

That Dragon Mage edition is sick with the edge art, absolutely worth it. Kate Daniels is a fun, rapid read. King Rat, like pretty much every China Mieville book, is a mixed bag of oddness. It's one of his earlier ones, more grungy/edgy than anything else he did afterwords. I actually recently read Collapse also! It's about the key factors that cause societal collapse, with a few different case studies. Fascinating stuff. The Heir to the Empire trilogy is one of the best places to get into Star Wars Legends (the old EU books before Disney bought it and scrapped them all). Introduces some iconic characters, to put it mildly. This is definitely one of the more epic book hauls I've seen all in all, lots of iconic series and editions!

Patricia A. McKillip is one of my all time favorite authors! I gush about her on my channel a lot haha. Her writing style is very magical and whimsical and absolutely beautiful. The way she paints a scene is breathtaking her work is just chefs kiss to me. I hope you enjoy Riddle Master when you read it, I very much did!

Man I thought I had a book buying problem 🤣. (I say that as I type away on my keyboard that is surrounded by 40 books stacked haphazardly on my desk) I have read Jared Diamond before. His most popular book "Guns, Germs and Steel" is hated by historians but it does give you a good bird's eye view of the history of the world in an engaging way. The book made me interesting in history as a teenager so it holds a special place in my heart. I have wanted to give Collapse a try, I may pick up a copy if I see one for a good price. Trilogy Omnibus are the best! The Tower of Fear is good. It is the best of his standalones and I am legit jealous of you finding a hardcover. That is probably a first edition. I have never read the Imager series but Modesitt's Recluse series is great! I have read the 14 or 15 of them. I want to read some Peter S. Beagle. Yay! Fevre Dream! It is so damn good! Hell yeah you got the Thrawn Trilogy! My favorite! This was an awesome haul!

@@BooksWithBenghisKahn My one issue with Tower of Fear is the book has a huge cast of characters and a lot of moving parts. Sometimes I got lost while reading but I was also listening to it. Which never helps when you are trying to keep track of a lot of things. We are definitely book buying kindred spirits. I'm going on vacation in a few weeks and I found an amazing used book store near where we are staying. I have already started budgeting for the shopping trip 😂.

Oops sorry I missed this comment last week! Have you been to all the used bookstores in the area? The Rodgers Book Barn was so cozy and wonderful, even if I wish they had more SFF. There was one place with a lot of small buildings on the property with soooo many books that was a blast to sort through even if it was cold and they weren't heated!

Love seeing some 80's and 90's works represented!!! Rise of Mages was great. It is a short epic fantasy if that is not a contradiction. Not 5 stars but at least 4. I would read The Fall second. It does not really matter but it is essentially a much higher level campaign and jumps right in no handholding. Great haul hope to hear some opinions!!!

I've been reading sooo much 2000s sff in the past 6 years that I absolutely need to expand a bit backwards in time into the 80s-90s era which I think might contain tons of great gems for me. Thanks for the note on the Fall! Based on that I think I might enjoy reading it second since I don't mind getting a slower set-up book rather than one with a lot of action that I don't have the context for. Oops sorry I missed this comment last week! Have you been to all the used bookstores in the area? The Rodgers Book Barn was so cozy and wonderful, even if I wish they had more SFF. There was one place with a lot of small buildings on the property with soooo many books that was a blast to sort through even if it was cold and they weren't heated!

I do get all my physical books and audio from the library. However, I just bought a book shelf as I am addicted to taking any title I recognize from the free library book bin.
Rodgers Barn does seem far from me, I am only 40 minutes north of Manhattan, but it sounds wonderful.

Rise of Mages was great. It is a short epic fantasy if that is not a contradiction. Not 5 stars but at least 4.
I would read The Fall second. It does not really matter but it is essentially a much higher level campaign and jumps right in no handholding.

Thanks Larry!! I've been reading sooo much 2000s sff in the past 6 years that I absolutely need to expand a bit backwards in time into the 80s-90s era which I think might contain tons of great gems for me.
Thanks for the note on the Fall! Based on that I think I might enjoy reading it second since I don't mind getting a slower set-up book rather than one with a lot of action that I don't have the context for.

Death Gate Cycle is so underrated. Such an amazing fantasy series.

I have only bought a kindle novella recommended by Evie: All the Horses of Iceland by Sarah Tolmie, think a Norse Marco Polo traveling through Central Asia of myths and legends!

This got lost in my “watch later” folder and I’m just now seeing it. Thanks for the shout out on the KD series, I still highly endorse that one beyond book 1. That Dragon Mage book with the hidden sprayed edges was so cool! I quite liked that one. So many great editions, I also have an addiction to buying them.

Yeah the Dragon Mage special is just so cool. And KD is definitely in my lineup of urban fantasy to try now that I’m done with Alex Verus. I tried Sandman Slim and it just wasn’t working for me. I want to try KD, Rivers of London, and Iron Druid next.
