I’m thinking of going next week. I was clean for about a year but have used a couple times lately (haven’t fully fallen off the wagon yet) but I’m dangerously close to falling back into the abyss. I’m hoping it will help me. Can anyone go to any meeting or are some closed and some open to newcomers?

      welcome. all you new members.
first things first dont use. next it is very important to get a sponsor and build a network, do those te things all the rest will fall into place. Suggestions for finding a sponsor; go to a lot of meetings and listen to people share. if you think you like what you hear watch that person if their actions seem to line up with their message, ask them for their number and call them ask them if they have a Narcotics anonymous sponsor, if they have worked the 12 steps with their sponsor, if they are willing and have the time to sponsor you. the rest like I said will fall into place when it supposed to

Going to my first tonight. Alcohol has always been my worst worst enemy...or I thought. Nope. It's the drugs too. I feel like such a loser. Lost a great job, have no direction, lost the will to do anything. It's so hard to keep pushing... 😔

Thank you for sharing this. I'm a wife of an addict. My husband has just finished detoxing. As you may understand, he's not ready and able to communicate his issues with addiction, and I'm ok with that. It will happen when he's ready. I'll be attending my first Nar-Anon meeting next week, but some people suggested that it would help me to listen to some NA meetings to gain perspective. So here I am, and I sincerely thank you for this. It's definitely helped me.

I attended my 2nd NA meeting last night, in Casa Grande actually. It's funny that I clicked on this video and the speaker is from Florence, AZ- 30 minutes down the road. 😊 My first meeting was amazing! But there were a lot of people, so I didn't speak, I just listened, and cried... Last night the group was pretty small, so I introduced myself. Again- amazing. Eric- I feel you so much on the ADHD, the inability to be present at times, the trouble being on time or even showing up! Your talk- it meant a lot to me... To hear the honesty of "just not being able to get clean- and not knowing why!" I thank you for sharing... 😊

Relapse is def. A part of my recovery too! I believe you can learn more from a relapse than u can from years in recovery. My last relapse lasted only a month after i got out of prison. And i realized why I was so tired... I was instantly back in the lifestyle and i hated it more than ever. And right after i quit and surrendered and prayed for the obsession to be lifted, i found out i was pregnant with my first little girl. I believe i needed that short relapse to open my eyes. I honestly havent had the urge since then. Im now 27 weeks a long and i love my life in NA and all the love and support i have received from all the people i choose to have in my life today. #grateful... Awesome speech!!!

We all tell different stories of why we cannot have self-control of our addiction and every story ends with life lessons of the person who we were in our past and overcoming the drug addiction and taking the 12 steps seriously while living a clean and sober life. We do not know how much we hurt the ones who love us in our addition until when we get sober... Gaining the trust of others is the hardest in step 1 in recovery. 💯

Honestly if I could tell people one thing about being a recovering addict, it would be that you start an entirely new struggle on day one of your sobriety that’s very different but equally as hard, if not just as hard. At least for awhile. Learning to live and be “normal”. Rewiring and reprogramming yourself. Finding sincere joy in life without chemicals... Having healthy and fulfilling relationships. And most importantly, maintaining that for the rest of hope life, through all the pain and shit you’ll go through.. It’s hard to tell yourself that you have a reason not to get high when you really don’t even care if you’re alive.. That’s actually what kept me smoking cigarettes for so long.. I had no motivation to quit other than financial which, when compared to a heavy heroin habit, is easy not to think too much about. I would go awhile and then remember all the fucked up shit going on in my life and how good it would feel to lay in bed and chain smoke ciggs.. yeah yeah I could go do service work or whatever.. I’m not doing any of that shit. I’m a workaholic now, if I work less than 60 hours a week I’m really upset. Saving money for the first time in my life, staying busy. Still pretty sad and think about getting high relatively regularly. I drink too much and sometimes I’ll get some coke. But again, it’s a journey.. I know what I’m doing wrong, I just need to work harder on building the life around me that will help me not to do that shit. Been working out lately, finally quit smoking.. trying to change my diet a little.. and I’m just gonna day, St. John’s wort is a pretty amazing herbal supplement. Can’t be mixed with a lot of stuff so make sure you look into that if you take any prescriptions, but I actually feel probably better than I have in since I was a kid...

Jeez. Whatever you need I guess. I can’t imagine focusing so much of my time and energy into obsessing about drugs like I did when I was in active addiction..

Whenever I was 12 years old was when I started using drugs. And the second time I got high I overdosed and almost died. I spent two days in intensive care and two days in a regular hospital room. Well now I'm almost 60 and I was telling my mother the other day that the reason why I continue to get high after I almost died. Was because when I was high I was funny and everybody laughed. And my mother said something so simple. She said why son you were funny before you started using drugs. Damn!!! I mean she shot a big ole hole in my excuse. Well along the way I've had four more drug overdoses that involved me being hauled off in an ambulance. Now that's not too damn funny. And to think I could have saved myself all those years of heartache and anguish using drugs because I was already funny. LMAO I may be the only person on planet Earth that gets the irony of it all! Well focus is half the battle and whether you're new in recovery or been in recovery forever and a day do yourself a favor and don't focus on what's wrong with 12 step recovery and 12-step people keep your mind focused on what is right with it all and all will be well. But remember if you don't use you won't be high! God is good and his mercies endureth forever
