- G’day, my name is Jayden, welcome back to my channel! These were my 37th and 38th flights in 2023; in early-May, I flew United Airlines from Vancouver to Singapore, with a stop at San Francisco. The first flight was UA1230 from Vancouver to San Francisco onboard an Airbus A319-100 in First Class; the second flight was flagship flight UA1 from San Francisco to Singapore onboard a Boeing 787-9 in the Polaris Business Class. Hi Jayden - good to get this review from you with your customary attention to important details. Have been considering using this exact flight myself; have to say on the basis of your review would definitely choose SQ over UA on this sector, or NH/JL via NRT/HND rather than through SFO. The food and service really looked pretty average for a ULH flight. Interesting to see that Polaris was full, too. Very informative review, thank you.🙂
Hello! Polaris is a great choice is price is right and you just want a good night sleep. It definitely lacks the hospitality and service you’d get from NH and SQ. However I must say though, I prefer Polaris bed over SQ’s! SQ is wide but very little feet space.

Yep longest flight in my life actually! Previously it was AA 777-300ER in main cabin extra Dallas to HK :) One hour shorter
@@JaydenWong I flew Emirates on an A380 from Dubai to Melbourne last Friday it was 13 and a half hours and I think that’s my longest from memory. Love that plane. Cheers.

I was looking forward to this video, and it didn't disappoint! Some thoughts:
- Looks like you lucked out with both the pursers
- 23 is old?!?!
- Not surprised that the vegan dish on the regular menu was better than most VGMLs, as it's more likely to be curated
- Nice of UA to offer PJs
- It would be nice for you to do the same flight on SQ to compare.

Yep I was definitely lucky to have friendly pursers on both flights. I definitely want to do SQ to JFK or EWR and see how long I can sleep🤣

Hi Jayden. I have one suggestion: every time you start a video and greet your viewers, could you also say what date it is? Because you often include important update on what's happening in the world of flying, but even though just released, the video doesn't necessarily have to be newly taken. So that when we watch it, we would always know how old the information is. I ❤ your videos!!! 😊

Great video, Jayden! That is a really long flight, but it looked like you enjoyed it. The restaurant in the Polaris looked really nice but the buffet seemed kind of sad. As for the pajamas, I think you could have fit 2 of you in them! 😂. Sorry your suitcase didn’t make the trip. You’d think a 5 hour layover would be plenty of time to transfer the bag.

On long haul flights over 10 hours cabin crew are legally required to have breaks. That is why on long haul flights after the first meal service they disappear for ages. There is always snacks and drinks in the galley. Just help yourself
perhaps this is an United thing? Other airlines usually have crew on rotation, like how the pilots do.

Cool! I'm going to fly from Chicago to Orlando on a Boeing 737 MAX 9 on United in August. When I'm flying back, I'll fly on a Boeing 757-300. I'm going on a cruise on the MSC Seaside.

@JaydenWong I initially thought we were going to change flights, but we're not and are actually flying a 757-300 both ways.
imo in a head-to-head competition on SFO-SIN route, the only reason I would chose UA over SQ is the cool flight number🤣 UA1 costs the most amongst flight #1 of all US airlines, so the chance to fly on it seems to be more attractive than AA1 or B61
ahaha fair enough, I also prefer UA bed tbh. But SQ service and food definitely are more attractive. So pick upon your priorities :)
Isn't it marvellous there are now flatbeds in aeroplanes? I remember when you had to sit up all the way - even in First. Also there were no lounges or showers at aerodromes. Consequently one arrived feeling like a worn out old dishrag and smelling like a pole cat! 😂

Another enjoyable and detailed RUclips, Jayden. UA has great catering for this flight. But the product doesn't look appealing compared to what SQ and EK would provide on their A380s.

United's Polaris had been featured by Simply Aviation. Hopefully you can feature them someday.
Getting asked for your ID made me smile 😊 On my 40th birthday, I went to a dance bar that I had never been in before. The doorman asked for my ID! I was happy.

Do you get baggage claim insurance since your bag was left behind via status or a credit card that offers protection?
Airlines usually/should cover for that. I’ve always asked airlines directly for money. I would only use insurance if it was stolen and not the airline’s fault

yep! it's like a natural air refresher haha. I don't drink Lipton, so when I get Lipton I keep it and chuck it in my wardrobe 🤣
Well done trip report Jayden but for SFO to SIN you could have chosen SQ since they have a better product than UA Polaris. SQ31 & 33 > UA1 which is also preferred by a milage plus member. In the future, if UA gets their A359s then you can do A359s UA vs DL vs CX vs MU vs CI. 😍😍😍😍. For United Airlines the IFE system allows you to listen to the ATC which is called from the flight deck
SQ31 and 33 are a lot more than expensive in my case haha.
SQ don't codeshare with UA even though they are partners in star alliance. shame really as you could of got an sq seat at ua prices

Looks like UA wants you to fly ANA/Asiana Eva Air via NRT/HND🇯🇵 TPE🇹🇼 and ICN🇰🇷 from SFO to SIN. Also, Thai Airways, if they do restart TG790/791 this time as BKK-EWR Terminal B airside shuttle to Terminal C in EWR.
If you switch over to Oneworld Alliance AS and AA Oneworld Emerald members can get their JL MH and CX seats at their pricing if applicable to do. Possibly the same on Skyteam with DL and AM Skyteam Elite Plus members getting their pricing on KE MU VN CI and GA flights.
@@jimbo6059you are correct from what I can see can also apply the same logic for EWR to Manila on SQ using UA prices. Do that on UA you have via SFO or Guam to MNL from EWR.

That's crazy expensive. Thats why i stick with SQ biz. My last sfo sin kno roundtrip only cost me 5700.
SQ actually cost more from SFO or YVR. But having a connection always cost less :) i.e. SQ SFO SIN BKK cheaper than SFO SIN
@JaydenWong oh it depends. Im indonesian living near kno airport in north sumatra. Sfo sin kno is always more expensive than sfo sin cgk. Oh i wished i could go home to Jakarta cgk instead. Sq often have award flights to cgk but never kno.

Nice video mate! Sad that United along with the other two other US-based airlines, haven't learned a d*mn thing from its' int'l airline competitors. For someone to pay thousands of $$ for a business class ticket on United, the meal service is rather unappealing. UAL should provide on-demand dining, especially during midflight, when all they do is leave food out in the galley...UAL needs to step up its game in providing more involved meals for mid-flight snacks, like ramen bowls or soups in addition to their cheap sandwiches.

Even with a 5 hour layover in SF, United still didn't load your bag on your flight. That's pretty disappointing.
When I got my bags in ADL and looked at the bag tags. I realised the agent put SFO as the destination for my check bags. It shouldn't or couldn't have happened normally because it'll automatically show my final destination on the agent's end; but I actually volunteered to move from UA29 to UA1 whilst at Vancouver still (flight was overbooked). The agent earlier may have broken up my itinerary into two separate trips.

probably Delta for the wifi & new interior. AA for the Oneworld and Flagship lounges. United for Polaris and domestic lounges.
Wow, that seat looks really cramped and exposed. You are definitely not paying for privacy. And after all that waiting for those passengers, they forgot to load your bag and it took ages to get to you!

Usually, the food on United looks good, but that did not look at all nice. Thank you for braving it for us!
To be fair it is J rather than F class. And as someone has noted here I too can remember the days when QF would have 2-4-2 J class seating for its 747s flying LHR-SYD (with en route stops).
Re-TheScratchingKiwi, that's the problem with non-reverse herringbone or diamond business class. No seats are equal in business class.

Almost nothing was vegan in this video- the beef burger in the lounges, chicken salad for dinner, the sundae and breakfast were all diary.

I ate meat in Vietnam because it wasn't quite feasible just eating plant based food there, felt so heavy and fat.
