"8am is not early, but it is stupid." That should be on t-shirts, mugs, etc. Basically, you need to start an Etsy store entirely around merch and that sentence.
Listening to Joyce and Christopher around this time of year is always a comfort and a joy, as a movie lover and an awards season aficionado. Let us carry through this season with Gold Derby's team to March 2024 and then continue with some well deserved Oscars Playback. Cheers!
Wow! I beat both of you on Gold Derby predictions - Joyce 54/66 81.82%, Chris 53/66 80.3% and myself sssshh1234 55/66 83.33%. I'd put it down to these great conversations - it's a shame you don't have any other Golden Globes slugfest. I guess you're East Coast and the other guys are West Coast?
As you may already infer… my only snub that I am upset and heartbroken about… No Better Place by *NSYNC/ Justin Timberlake for Best Original Song. Also - can we divide the supporting categories into drama and comedy the same as they do leads? Why create 2 new categories (box office - stupid - and stand up - I don’t get it) when they could have done that instead? Or maybe add a stunt or voice acting category?
Question? Y'all stated in the comments that What happen to "The Color Purple's" Golden Globes nominations? In your viewing description. It looks like you did not think highly of the movie either. #Ouch! We will see if it gets some legs after Christmas opening.
I will not understand why May December is preferred over The Colour Purple. I mean it's not like they haven't seen TCP because they did nom the 2 actresses.
I’m so excited! This was such a fun nomcom. All the things I wanted in are in Past Lives in general same with May December and Andrew Scott!!!!! But I don’t agree with Lily winning the globes. Anette is going to get it. I was right about Angela Bassett last year. Globes wants to honor the veteran
The irony of a drama like May December being nominated in Musical/Comedy, while an actual musical, The Color Purple gets overlooked. That alone says a lot about the GGs. Fortunately, no one with the Golden Globes are Academy members, so The Color Purple will still be nominated at the Oscars. Fortunately, in a lot of categories, things will change when it comes to Oscar nominations. Many that missed here will get in. And many that got in here will not. Should be interesting.
Unfortunately, the category of comedy/musical is an old-fashioned one. A lot of movies these days are hybrid comedy/dramas, not out-and-out comedies, musicals or dramas in teh old-fashioned sense. I agree May/December should have been consdiered drama and The Colour Purple would rightfully get into the category. I think they choose their favourite films and sandwich them in to a category. You're right on the Oscars. Golden Globes tend to signpost the Oscars only inasmuch as the general nominees. A lot of Golden Globe acting winners (particularly in the comedy/musical category) don't go on to win at the Oscars and other films get nominated at the Oscars that get overlooked at the Globes.
@@drdavid1963Agreed... Saltburn went to drama just like Promising Young Woman... But then I remembered Get Out in comedy and I thought "yeah, they went nuts before"
Past Lives love is real. Color Purple underperformed. May December and Zone of interest overperformed. Who do I have to F### to get Todd Haynes a Best Director nom?
Said it before, and I'll say it again TCP will miss. Not as good as the book nor the movie. Remember, about 5 or 6 Broadway shows up per year so yeah wins there but not among many and much better films.

On the extra slot in each category, I think the Globes are trying too hard to be inclusive and want to minimise pushback on snubs.
Another excellent conversation between the two of you. I'm looking forward to more as we merrily roll along in awards season.
Is a “globes pick” really a thing anymore? This is a new globes based off this line up! Love it
why?

My bad, the Editor's slugfest has dropped
Boston film critics showered Holdovers with much love for what it's worth.
Local bias. The kansas city film critics gave supporting actress for Janelle Monae last year and she's from there.
May December and especially Julianne Moore in it have been constantly underestimated ever since Cannes, but they are hitting everything.

Watched elemental last week and it’s such a cute film and focused on a love story which is rare now. I love to see it get nominated everywhere

The Boy and The Heron 🤝Suzume by best animated feature by Golden Globes 2024.

Wish is NOT a great animated movie.
Nimona deserved nomination

I loved 🥰 The Holdovers but that also wasn’t a comedy 🎭 😮
Globes picks were pretty legit. Aside from WISH gettin a nod over TMNT

Yay
Joaquin Phoenix is rising
And Gayle wore purple
