  • Paris has expressed a feeling of betrayal after Australia went back on a deal to buy French submarines. Canberra says the decision was necessary for Australia to meet its strategic needs.
    Australia's decision to accept the US submarine deal was announced alongside the unveiling of the Indo-Pacific security agreement with the US and Britain.
    The pact allows Australia to develop a nuclear-powered fleet - an option that was not open to Canberra when it struck a deal with France in 2016.
    The European Union announced its own strategy to boost political and defense ties in the Indo-Pacific on Thursday.
    EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Thursday that Brussels had not been consulted on the pact, which has been dubbed "AUKUS."
    "We regret not having been informed, not having been part of these talks," Borrell said as he presented the strategy.

First, regarding the hard power, France is the 3rd largest global exporter for military equipments and has 300 nuclear warheads including the bomb H. France is the only country with US and Russia to be fully autonomous military speaking. Its industries such as Dassault, Safran, Thales, MBDA, Nexter, Arianespace + Airbus (held in majority by the French) are among the best in the world in many strategic technologies. France has the largest exclusive economic zone and can apply its sovereignty everywhere in the world. Its army is fully trained and still very active everywhere in the world (africa, middle east…). Today, France has the most powerful army in Europe and is still the country with most military victories.

    • @Tonius126
      @Tonius126 2 года назад +4

      @m n Exactly, France will pick France at the cost of UK, US, Australia's interest in the SEA just because of money and trade from a dictatorial, autocratic state as oposed to it's Democratic "alies". It's clear when a new cold war begins, France will be neutral at best while reelinng in trades from both side. Again France have no stake in SEA comparred to Aukus.

    • @eyeofthetiger6002
      @eyeofthetiger6002 2 года назад +3

      @m nminions? Lol, but you forget that the UK is probably the only country that the US can trust fully to share its military technology and hardware, hence the UK is the only country until now that the US has shared its nuclear submarine technology with. Same with the Trident nuclear missiles(only the UK is trusted enough to have the US's main nuclear deterrence!), although the nuclear warhead is British designed and built. Also, the UK is the only tier 1 partner in the F35 fighter consortium, meaning the UK besides being the second largest contributor to the project in terms of technology input also share with the US the very top technology secrets not open to the other partners in the the consortium like Italy, Spain, Norway,etc. Lastly, British defense companies like BAE systems and Rolls-Royce are probably the only companies apart from US ones allowed to bid in America's most sensitive defense contracts, like Rolls-Royce's latest success in winning the bid to upgrade the US's B52 bombers engines.

    • @Tonius126
      @Tonius126 2 года назад

      @m nAgain why? The french deal was too good to be true anyway, should have choosed the Japanese contract instead as they have a stake in the SEA region. Again, France has no stake in antagonizing China and is indifferent in the new front of a cold war for global supremacy. Choosing a dictatorial regime over it's similarly democratic "alies" with the same values.
      So why bother? Again why?

    I wonder how many people here know that the French only have 1 submarine delivered into service out of the 18 Suffren/Barracuda-class submarines ordered (6 by the French Navy and 12 by Australia)? That Suffren submarine came into service 3 years later than originally expected. Whoever leads the French military-industrial complex either has issues meeting deadlines or likes to rip buyers off by ballooning costs on purpose while doing nothing.
    For the record, France hijacked a prospective deal between Japan and Australia to get a deal signed for the Barracudas, cutting the grass under the Japanese's feet. Meanwhile, Japan has put 12 Soryu-class submarines in service since 2005; the Soryu was the class of submarines that the pre-2016 Australian government had eyes on. For all the theatrics that French diplomats are showing, they better remember how they stole the original prospective deal from the Japanese. What happened a few days ago is only France having a taste of their own medicine.

      What country's spending suggest it values death more than life?
      After 15 years, the Pentagon not only scrapped its $500 million Electromagnetic project
      it also stopped Future combat system, Boeing Comanche helicopter and the Next Generation Cruiser project.
      Billions of dollars spent and paid for by the US taxpayers
      on projects that are dead in the water.
      Haven’t American been screaming for the government to fix
      education and healthcare system, bridges, tunnels, schools
      but when the Pentagon screwed up their made-up projects and wasted taxpayers’ money

      Well, we are not that advance ( technology may be there but defence manufacturing infra is less here) in defence manufacturing. We are still in progress. ( Almost 10 - 15 years to get there unless Modi gets defeated in 2024 election which is highly unlikely unless some drastical incident happens .)
      Yes it's good if usa stops ignoring India.
      Specially under democrats usa is critical of India. Same goes with the labour party on uk ( which is not currently in power).
      Mr. Suga is also not so active as Mr. Abe.
      Aus and uk almost follow the usa ( even if left and right are in defferent countries ) along with Canada.
      But Eu is different from these 4 countries ( US, UK, Canada, Australia). If Germany and France can make their priorities same and in favour of India then we all can benefit but as of now Germany is more aligned with China ( along with Greece and Italy I think .)
      Also we have a good relationship with Russia ( though it's declining)
      So it's a complicated situation.
      But it's for sure that in this AUKUS deal, France will lose the most. India and France will get more closer and Quad will go to cold storage untill 2024 - 25 ( at least as a military alliance).

      With the exodus with UK from the EU bloc, France and Germany is the ones poised to take leadership in Europe and it is necessity for us to take our own command and make ourselves self-reliant from other states who may have their own intrest in the European sphere of influence.
