Yes they can
Men and women are different. Which is a great reason to have friends of both genders. Your world view and walk with god can greatly be helped by such friendships.
I think it is possible to have friendships with the opposite sex but both persons must maintain certain boundaries. I have a friend who is married and he and I get together about once a month to have pancakes at a local diner and discuss theology. His spouse is aware of the friendship and does not have any objection. We need good friends that we walk on the Christian path with that can encourage us in the faith.

Yes you can. Boundaries+ memories+ experiences and looking out for each other= friendships. 100% have many friends that are guys, of course they are handsome and beautiful, but i wouldn't take the step to date them/ lust over them. Good Catholic guys who aren't focused on "getting married and a date" thirst, can be friends.
Not everyone is open with their intentions - What you think, may not be what they think - I had a few friends as girl but in the back of my mind I was always analyzing even though I wasn't really in the market for a girlfriend - but I didn't want a good thing to pass by either, and if this relationship could become something more? - Did I find them physically attractive ,did they have good personality, values, and were they single? Its all data.
