- This is the last of the video clips I have from the Blunt Force Summer Camp with Cannibal Corpse at Mana Recording. THIS is the bass you hear on the new record, "Red Before Black". If You have enjoyed these clips, PLEASE go and buy "Red Before Black" You'll be glad you did.
Cannibal Corpse is awesome. Thanks for the video. I'm a bass fanatic. Got my Spector about 20 years ago(instead of a car in high school.) Love it everyday. Cheers from Alaska!
brutal hails, from new zealand!! CC fans world wide \m/ (;,;) \m/
Love the blood splatter but I think the red bass with black splatter looks even better.
Paul Burkett - they call the red one "Zombie Blood".
Its only a half step down tuning. Its a 5 string folks. Take away the B string and you have Eb tuning. Nothing against anything or anybody. Just putting that out there.
I think Cannibal Corpse always essentially tuned to Eb but since they normally played 7 string guitars and use insane distortion, it sounds lower.
Standard 5 string goes to B. Thus G# is three half steps down. Not one.
gredangeo we're both right. Watch the whole video. Says he's setting it up for A# tuning for a few songs on the new record. Also known as Bb half step down.
SeanO Covers1999 they never played 7 strings
@@chriscleo Jack Owen used one on Vile and Pat owned a BC Rich 7 string V that was used on Live Cannibalism
Alex's work with Blotted Science Blew Me Mind too. Thanks for these videos.
Blotted is beyond sick. 🤘😎
I have a bass tuned to F#
I worked for Rivers of Nihil several years back.
They tune down there as well.
that beast looks thiiicccc AF lol!
could you perhaps show us the process of fine tuning the intonation on a bass?
Perhaps someday.
That information is pretty well covered elsewhere.
Nice looking bass guitar I play the guitar my self
Very nice video and thanks for the insight. What string gauges does he use for such low tunings?
Matteo Scarpanti I would love to know this as well!
WICKED!!!
Damn. Thats cool. Getting to work on the masters instrument.
Yeah, it's pretty cool all right. Plus, I'll let you in on a little secret. Alex Webster is one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet. A gentleman in every sense of the word. A true professional.
I belive you! He seems very humble and down to earth in interviews.
How do you avoid fret buzz in such low tunings
Wim Van De Voorde - you don't.
A certain amount of buzz helps it cut through the mix.
Granville Guitars thanks
The 35 inch scale helps as well. I have both a 34 and 35 and get less buzz on the 35.
Man... what it must be like to play with all of Cannibal Corpse's guitars without getting a pick axe in the back of your fuckin' head.
You are assuming I didn't.
I dont think my Boss TU-2 can tune my 5 string basses that low.
Soooo PUNCHY!
What strings are those? And would you help me with pick up heights?
jim claypool - Alex uses DR strings.
The correct pickup heights are the ones that sound best to you.
What gauge would you recommend for a Drop A string? is 145 the minimum or I'd need to go to 158?
I read the specs on this bass from Spector and he uses .170 on the low but those are hard to find, I use .130 for drop g and they work fine
Hey there! I've been enjoying your videos lately and I was also wondering how low are Alex's strings? Anyway, keep up the interesting content!
If you are referring to how high I set his strings off the fretboard, I have no idea. I start with a baseline measurement and then let the instrument tell me what I can get away with. Alex tends to prefer his action on the low side. That's about all I can tell you. Thanks for tuning in. More stuff coming!
Hi, may I ask what was the string set he used?
Ngữ Đoàn - DR Hi-Beams 45-125
I love my strings low....those strings look extremely low. lol
CaptainChaos88 - Alex's action isn't what I would describe as excessively low.
With a capo at the first fret and the neck set straight, his action measures around .050.
What are you setting up for neck relief at that string height? Does Alex use his basses with the neck set straight or does he have some relief set into the neck?
It's a damn fine cup of tea. Best cup this side of the Atlantic.
So he needs his instrument sent away for New strings? Common Alex you're a musical genius
Dr. McGraw - Not sure what you're driving at, Doc. Everyone needs a full setup from time to time.
@@GranvilleGuitars oh I know trust me I fix mistakes made by half ass instrument Mr fix its but the only specified thing was a string change
Dr. McGraw - My shop is located across the hall from Mana Recording where Cannibal Corpse was recording "Red Before Black". It's my job to keep the instruments in top shape during sessions. I changed strings on all their guitars multiple times during the recording process.
