    Great discussion thank you James.
A question if I may about the 'criminal burial' idea... if Pilate was indeed concerned about matters being 'heated' and maybe concerned about disturbances.. why choose to crucify a popular presence during he festival itself, in the first place?

Theologians like Habermas want to insist that Christianity existed as a separate religious entity before the destruction of Jerusalem and the Second Temple, but it did not.

    Thank you for your contributions.
Habermas needs to be tamed. It's good to see him so passionate, but the man is off his tree - and crazily, a lot of serious Christians look to his work as a figure of authority who holds to and presents support for their claims.
To the casual observer, it is very hard to argue against such an impressive arsenal of rhetoric.

I also wrote about Pontius Pilatus's motivation last night in the first part, but I do not see it now. Anyhow, Pilatus would be happy to crucify the Jewish messiah. But Jesus never said this secret to anyone. Even John the Baptist did not get the answer from Jesus as, 'Yes, I am the Christ.' But when Jews forced Pilatus to crucify their eschatological savior, Pilatus became very skeptical and tried his best to avoid crucifixion. My opinion is that Pilatus provided wine with an excess amount of myrrh to end the story. I do not think Pilatus wanted to give an honorable death according to Roman custom.

None of the Pilate dialogue is real.

      1. RUclips deletes comments so that's why you might not see it.
      2. Why would Pontius Pilatus want the crucifixion of an innocent man? He didn't want to cause any disturbances.
      3. Jesus said he is the Christ to many people, to his disciples, to a Samaritan woman and to many other people (some wanted to stone him for blasphemy). Only in the beginning it had to be hidden so that Christ would prove who he was with miracles and teachings over time and not because he caused a scene and went around proclaiming who he is.
      4. It is not Pilatus who would give Jesus a honorable death, he was only "forced" to agree with his crucifixion. And he accepted the burial of Jesus because of the many followers of Jesus and because Jesus was innocent.

I think James is wrong in moving Jesus body to another tomb. That would be known, and the resurrection myth would not arise. I think Jose of Arimathea allowed Jesus to be taken to his tomb, because it was late, and the tomb was nearby, but the tomb was for him and his family. As soon as the sun set on Saturday, he sent his servants to open the tomb and throw Jesus corpse into the pit; and keep it quiet…

It’s called Faith for a reason. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ isn’t adding up to you, but Moses speaking to a burning bush is?
Let’s talk about some of the curses handed down to the original Israelites by God, like Deuteronomy 29:27. If God said he would never allow the original Israelites to return to the Holy Land, who’s there today?

Cutoff or discontinued from their Israelite heritage. Zac 10:9, Jer 17:4-5, Lam 5:2, Jer 16:13,
Jewish people claim to have never lost their heritage and claim to be able to trace themselves back to Ancient Israel.
This self admission disqualifies them from being Israelites per the TORAH.

There are lots of those illusive "forevers" and "nevers" in the Bible, especially the OT. I think those are sometimes qualitative: not "forever" but "utterly". I think "eternal life" is the same way and really refers to quality of inner life in the here and now...like the "life more abundantly" in John 10.
