For early game and mid game (maybe late game) wood source, you just need to lure or grab a Castroide or 2 into a trap/ enclosure that has size of 4x1 or 3x1 stone foundation or stone fence foundations with stone window walls. Castroides will automatically create beaver dam, you can just havest a whole, just remember to place a large storage nearby since you will be encumbered. Just stay out of render sign, they will eventually create beaver dam.

One of my early tames is a beezlebuffo AKA big toad. Pretty decent as a scout as its jumping and swimming speed can avoid most aggro dinos, but it's great for hunting dragonflies and ants as you also gain cement paste when it kills bugs.

I'm new to the game, but have 800+ hours in Valheim. Figured I'd try Ark for something different. I'm only around the 10 hour mark, and these videos made me realise the role of dinos in the game. I figured it was surviving despite the dinos, not using them to farm etc. With that in mind, I figured I'd go tame an Argie as per the trap advice. I've not been able to find higher level dinos to tame, but have like a mid-40s trike and I managed to get a Pteranadon that was around 100 when tamed. I took Pterry to get the Argie, which took a while and lots of stamina stops on the way. We got there, set up the trap, and found the highest Argie on the island. I pulled him, got aggro from two lower level Argies, got knocked off Pterry, who then proceeded to fight in the air where I couldn't help and died. So I'm on the island, literally as far from my base as I can be, with three giant birds really angry with me. I ran to my trap and locked myself in, which kept me alive but the birds started to attack from both sides, so I was taking hits. I figured I'd try and tranq the bird I'd been after. When he started to fly away, I jumped out, shot him a couple more times, and then jumped in. I figured I'd lost him, killed the other two, and then left the trap to take stock. That's when I saw the first, higher level bird in the water, and sure enough he was asleep! I tamed him, then had to hunt around for the mats to make a saddle, and rode him home. Thank god for trilobites and their chitin otherwise I would've been in trouble. :)

I've never heard anybody mention this before, I only realized it myself a couple days ago, but when you have a low stamina, but decent speed flyer, you can actually fly without losing any stamina if you don't sprint fly if that makes sense. It can be especially helpful if you're in a dangerous area and can't find a safe place to land. May not be helpful in the particular case with the argents, but hopefully might help at some point.

I'm currently basing at the hidden lake on my server. I failed quite spectacularly trying to get my early tames there. I ended up losing all of them and everything I owned (RIP Delilah).😢😂 In the end, I just spawned nearby and started fresh. Totally worth it! All the metal one could want is just a short Ptera ride away!
Thank you so much for this series! Your guide has been incredibly helpful and very well done.

This is all amazing advice. I just feel like Trike as very first tame is worth to mention, there is quite a few less usefull dinos that people tame and saddle that they unlock before Trike saddle . But game realy changes once yoy got your first Trike. Worth to mention for this, also i like to trap him with 4 gates works very nice. You can also tame Trike in open without trap if you invested some points in move speed, using slingshoot. He is very strong dino, and high level Trike can hold off even Rex. And he can farm berries that you need for tranq arrows for later and can help with wood too early when you cant tame beaver yet.

I have a ton of love for plain ol' utility dinos, especially Doedis: their little level-up dance and honk is so cute. 💚 You have a really engaging way of speaking and are great and going over these topics thoroughly without bogging down the video too much, I hope you make more of these in the future!

All the ones in my taming area were level 20 and below, but i left the area and when I came back there was a 140. I immediately tamed him up and named him Eragon and he's already been unbelievably helpful.

    Awesome info!
I had worked out some of the dinos from googling stuff and already have a Doediceurus, Ankylosaurus, Moschops and Argentavis but have been using a Stegosaurus for wood, and more recently a Therazinasaur (noobs do research before tackling one of them, they are mean!), but the Casteroides looks much better, and has been on my list of tames to try for a while so will be getting one later! I also need to finish raiding the dam I found because I think I left wood in it when the beaver was killing me.
The other really important thing I hadn't found out about was the autoharvesting behaviour whilst being carried, that is going to be so useful as the metal nodes I've found don't seem to be very safe for ambling around on the ground!
A couple of questions come to mind:
    - It looks like the Argy stamina halves when I pick up a dino - is that right, and is it always half or does it depend on the dino it picks up?
    - Should I be leaving some food in one of my tames inventory slots or do they only feed from troughs? I usually do, but I notice you seem to aim to give them just enough to tame? Or is that just because you want to save mejoberries for taming?
I struggle to name my own Dinos :) how about 'Metal Mickey' for the Anky?

    • @MissVadams10
      @MissVadams10  Год назад +1

The Theri is a fantastic farmer of fiber, hide and rare flowers; I usually wait to tame one of those once I have kibble as they take ages to tame with Mejo berries. Mammoths are also good for wood but a little harder to tame for a beginner, as on the Island they spawn in the snow biome.
I'm not 100% sure about the Argy stamina, I think it has to do with the heavier it is, the quicker the stamina falls. So the stamina not lasting as long when picking up a farming dino makes sense.
Keeping food in troughs is usually enough, but if you are going out on long farming runs, it can be wise to be a stack of food in your dinos inventories. Especially the Argy as it will go through stamina quick.

It sounds like your Dino level is boosted way higher than mine. Max level is 150 on my settings (same as official) and on The Island map the Dino level distribution favours lower level Dino's; its much rarer to encounter Max level Dino's. So in the beginning when you're first starting out, you tame what you can get, and work on getting better levels as you progress through the game.
