I wish this was achievable without having to take a feat. Then you could still level up your character stats and still have fun with your party at the same time. 👀

@@Lukimuki101 Not quite. You get a +2 proficiency with a musical instrument from playing with Alfira, but don't get the performer feat to play an instrument nor does the rest of your group.
@@ivoryowl i'm replying to your comment a day before BG3 official release to let you know that there is an NPC interaction on the druid's grove that allows you to learn musical instrument proficiency ;)

Maybe just default to lute? Honestly if I had my way, I'd have Tav be a singer while their five companions each had an instrument lol
Anyone else having the problem of the "Performance" action just not doing anything? I've tried it multiple times in my game now but as soon as I choose a song it just goes back to the menu without playing.
They should probably make some sort of side quest which can actually give you a proficiency in an instrument. ***Light Spoiler*** Like how you can get talk with dead.
Alvira didn't want to play with me when I tried!! But, in the goblin camp there is a tracker with a flute that will automatically play along when you start playing, so you just need to reallocate the drum to shadowheart! Please post all 3 songs would love to hear it! For the other instruments, trader in the zhentarim hide-out has one random instrument for sale and that refreshes after a full rest. I haven't found any instruments in the game yet though.
Just a handful thankfully, the tricky part was that the song menu changes locations somehow for some reason, so Bard Dance was in different places in different times, and figuring out which instrument sounded cool to start too, but that was fun.
Okay hear me out... I came up with a pitch idea for a fantasy game where it has a rhythm like minigame which is of course bard music but the note are base off of bardcore music from that you wouldnfind on RUclips... You following me here?
I have a silly question even if I saw different RUclipsrs make all the companions in the group. As far as I know, these comrades don't have the skill to perform music, at least from what I've seen in my experience. How do you do to make them use instruments? Can they learn this skill levelling up?

Yep. WolfheartFPS suggested some relevant backgrounds could give access a musical instrument, such as Entertainer, Guild Artisan, Urchin.

Man I wish they made this a learning process where if your a non Bard you have to learn it via finding or having Bard teach you.
5th edition unfortunately has never been big on skill sets. It's a major weakness of the edition when compared to third/pathfinder.
@@alexsolomon7991 RAW, tools specifically can be learnt during downtime.
Or maybe just using an instrument enough times until you actually learn it. If the player doesn't want to wait then they can always pay an instructor.

Instrument proficiency definetely needs to be outside of feats, this is great.
You can learn instrument proficiency for free by interacting with Alfira IIRC. Not sure if you can repeat with all the companions too.

Cool! Do Wyll and Lae’zel have instruments as well?
You can give any character an instrument (Of 5) if they have the Performer Feat, so after you level or mod them.

They can learn by leveling or you can use a mod to give them the feat.
