Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich - Last Night In Soho (1968)

- Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich were a British pop/rock group of the 1960s. Two of their single releases sold in excess of one million copies each, and they reached number one in the UK Singles Chart with the second of them, "The Legend of Xanadu".
Five friends from Wiltshire, David John Harman (Dave Dee), Trevor Leonard Ward-Davies (Dozy), John Dymond (Beaky), Michael Wilson (Mick) and Ian Frederick Stephen Amey (Tich), formed a group in 1961, originally called Dave Dee and the Bostons. They soon gave up their jobs (e.g. Dave Dee was a policeman) to make their living from music. Apart from performing in the UK, they also occasionally played in Hamburg (Star-Club, Top Ten Club) and in Cologne (Storyville). Ward-Davies had acquired his nickname when he unwrapped a chocolate bar before absent-mindedly discarding the bar and attempting to eat the wrapper. Видеоклипы
What an amazing song found by watching an amazing movie
I didn't know it was the name of a song but I was amazed to find this song.
This movie was from Michael „Mike" Leckebusch, he was the mastermind of the Radio Bremen Beat-Club.
Here before Edgar Wright uses this in his upcoming film (probably in an ironic manner) and blows our mind yet again.
im genuinely expecting a "Don't Look Now" sorta aesthetic from this movie. the song is perfectly eerie.
He uses the song Baby Driver by Simon and Garfunkel in the end credits of his previous movie, I love that concept of song names for movie titles... can wait to see his talent in the horror genre and be blown away again !
Okay, so he used Downtown (I did read an article that Anya Taylor-Joy would sing Downtown in the film, so no surprise there), but I hope this song is used in the second trailer.
What was one ironic use of music in baby driver?
Quentin Tarantino a d Allison Anders said that this is the best title music for a film.
In before Edgar Wright shares this song with everyone and it blows up
Right, before people think it’s a good song.
RIP, my dear friend Tich Amey, 14 February 2024: nicest man on the planet and a stunning guitarist. 😪😪😪😪xxx
FUN FACT:
Edgar Wright was originally going to call his new 2021 movie, ‘The Red Area’, but after sitting down with Tarantino (his fellow director/buddy friend), the title for Last Night in Soho emerged when he was discussing the music of the era with Tarantino.
The context was that Tarantino's film Death Proof featured the 1968 song "Hold Tight!".
Wright mentioned the band behind "Hold Tight!", Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick, and Tich, and Tarantino gave him a personal recommendation - listen to their song "Last Night in Soho".
PRETTY SICK RIGHT⁉️⁉️‼️‼️?!?!!!!
@JACK It is in the movie
Tarantino = genius
i didn’t know that so thank you. “hold tight” works perfectly for deathproof and this song for LNIS too.
A little extra bit of info about the origins of the title for the film: the idea from Tarantino to Wright stemmed from a conversation Tarantino was having with the director Allison Anders ("Mi vida loca" and the first story in "Four Rooms") where she told him that "Last Night in Soho" was "the greatest title music for a movie that’s never been made." That's why the film is dedicated to both of them.
That's exactly what brought me here. I somehow hadn't heard of the song before now but am glad the movie gave me an opportunity.
Last Night in Soho movie brought me to this beautiful song 😊
Me too.
You came into my life like rain upon a barren desert
One smile and I was born again
I felt sure it wasn't too late
I'd find strength to make me go straight
I had love and threw it away
Why did they lead me astray?
For last night in Soho I let my life go
I never told you of some things I've done I'm so ashamed of
I thought my foolish past was over and done
I felt sure I'd make a new start
I tried with all of my heart
I had dreams and broke them in two
I'm just not worth of you!
For last night in Soho I let my life go
Well, hi there, kid you ain't been around for quite some little while
See you got yourself a real cute doll you're living in style
But boy don't get above your station
If you don't want aggravation
Got a little job for you
This is what you gotta do, boy!
That's how last night in Soho I let my life go
Don't cry my baby as they lead me where no love can help me
Don't stay around to watch me go
Just forget there once was a time
You were proud to call yourself mine
I had love right here in my hand
Why could I not understand?
For last night in Soho I let my life go
For last night in Soho I let my life go
I’m a big fan of 60s music and confess that I was not familiar with this song before the movie. There was a lot of excellent British music that didn’t make it to North America and this seems to be another one. Great song - ahead of its time but with elements of the era - and with the gravitas to headline a very interesting and unique movie.
I was brought up in the uk in the 60s, liked a lot of us music, this was a lovely band and many of there songs i used to roller skate to them
yes, also new to me, even as I've always been a huge fan of BritBeat music from here in the States ...great little movie too- awesome acting, beautiful cinematography...and that soundtrack!
I wasn't familiar with it either and I'm a big fan too. There was so much hoopla over the British Invasion, but there were enough American one hit wonders to counter the British stuff. This song is f'ing awesome! that guitar riff! Reminds me a bit of Johnny Rivers' Secret Agent theme song. and the movie! wow, I haven't been this excited after seeing a movie in a really LONG time. Not that I haven't liked anything, but this movie is so unique. The costumes, cinematography, soundtrak and story all meld beautifully. Edgar Wright needs to direct more big screen stuff.
Mate, this barely made it to Britain either. I hadn't heard of this song or the band before seeing this film.
By the by, even you haven't yet, give the Kinks a proper go. Village Green Preservation Society and Ape Man are my favourites. But you'll find yours.
@@marcuswalters8093 Remember them well from the 60's. Their biggest hit was Legend Of Xanadu and was at no 1 for 12 weeks.
Thank you Edgar Wright This song is pure masterpiece!!!!
This band was so underated
Love this group and song and all of there others I just became a teenager when this song came out it brings back memories to me rest in eternal peace Dave Dee and Dozy the angels are taking care of you both now fly high both of you ❤️ 💙 🙏
Me to I was 16 .R I P boys. Great post
Both Dave Dee and Dozy irreplaceable.
What a sound, what a drive, this is a true smash-hit.
Yes
I saw them perform many times - always an excellent show. This looks like the original line-up, sadly most are no longer with us.
No. TICH just passed away following Dave and Dozy😢😢
Just watched the film on Netflix they played this during the credits, forgot they did this, great song and enjoyed the film so many great 60s songs were in it, what a decade along with the 70s.
Fabulous slice of 60s pop that still packs a punch.
Thanks Tarantino and Edgar Wright !!! I love this song 🎧
What a great band, great songs. R.I.P. Dave Dee :(
don't call him that!
Love ďď and the boys👄
Dozy got his name when he opened a bar of chocolate and absentmindingly threw the choc away and tried to eat the wrapper.
Never knew he had passed. I was in soho & Piccadilly a while back. Didn't recognise the area
Another Majestic Classic From These Amazing Artists Who Gave Us So Many Memories From An Era Of Unbelievable Musical Memories.
Sheer Supreme Vocals And Brilliant Harmonies Combined With Amazing Musicality.
Cheers 🍻 👏 For This Majestic Memory. ❤❤❤.
Loved the movie and I LOVE THIS SONG!
Completely exceeded my expectations for an already anticipated film this year
So glad i experienced the greatest music era of all time. Just in that decade the amount of great music and genres was unprecedented .
It honestly sickening how good that era was in musical output. The future must've seemed very bright back then.
I was born in Japan grown up in Japan, but why is this so nostalgic??
And I can say the same thing to the film.
Rip Dave.... 1968 I was 16 years old and loved your band like a family member.
RIP Dozy
man,, i cant believe this song is 53 years old,, love the movie and especially this song,, what a genius,,,
No shame, I admit I had no idea of these mates until I saw the movie and heard this amazing piece of genius. It's now a must in my playlists, love it.
The made some really outstanding records
Saw the film tonight and remembered hearing this song when I was six. It is absolutely epic in every way!!!
I loved them when they topped the charts, i grew up in Glasgow ,Scotland ,they were superstars back then always loved their music ,great lyrics and music , Dave Dee was a police man before the band and became a music critic then a judge before he died.
Rock on
Wonderful song - what a wonderful decade made such memorable songs - bliss
Actually Dave Dee & Co did so many fine tracks that could be utilized in films…like 'Run Colorado', 'Love Is A Drum', 'Bora Bora', 'Margareta Lidman'…special thanks to Allison Anders for suggesting 'Last Night In Soho' to Tarantino…hopefully there's some cutting edge director out there who will use some of their other tracks
Music + Film is way overdone for a long time, somehow by maybe a fluke Soho did it and not over-the-top insultingly. So, no, I can't hope for more of their tracks in anything. EVER.
Glad I found this song .I like the music especially at the beginning of this song
The brilliance of the 1960s
Just love it. From a fan born in 1986 xx
1956 you mean
Me too lol
Oh, he does. After showing the glitz and glamour and squalor of the 60's, this song and the credits play over scenes of pandemic London.
The lyrics somewhat capture the character of Sandie. I know that's mostly a Coincidence, but listen to them.
I just finished watching it for the third time on Amazon rental and yeah for sure it does and also I can hear even some influence Edgar used for this one song for the soundtrack
Oh yea 100%
This band were huge in the UK for about three years but this song, a top ten hit in 1968 was not a hit in the US. Only their Zabadak was a minor US hit. Dave Dee RIP.
Love this song.
Great track by a great band
Excelente grupo, magníficas armonías vocales, bonita y buena canción; merecían haber sido mucho más famosos.
Way cute and an accomplished performer. LOVE THIS VIDEO
Thanx Tarantino for introducing this tune to me💚
What a great song 🎵
This song is just GREAT!
Nice tip Quentin
that lady got a wonderful hairstyle. the beauty of the Beat Club!
Great music! 👌
DD,D,M&T did some great Records this and Legend of Zanadu two of the best, shame they broke up so early the after films Dave Dee was to die so early, wish they could have done far more - great legacy
You forgot Beaky
We saw them some years ago when they were special guests on the Solid Siver Sixties tour. I was a fan of theirs as a teenager in the 60's. I was so sad when Dave Dee died.
I loved that they played it in the film by the same name too.
I Love does songs very much thanks for you its long time ago Bye Bye
Thanks, Tarantino. For showing this classic to your buddy Edgar Wright! ❤️
You know Tarantino is a total pile of dung, no?
@@pierrelivernois don't care. Pulp fiction.
I already knew what feet looked like in 1991. Edgar Wright and Sxott Ackerman got me here
@@rodneyginokche says the n word far too many times. Disgusting
Dans le top🔝 10 des meilleurs groupes Britanniques des années 60's 💪💕👍
This song brings back memories when the Poole family or the Goodfellow family in Lennox Drive always played brilliant latest hits and this was one i will always remember. They give me good memories xxx
A fine track by a fine band
Can’t wait for this song to appear in the upcoming Edgar Wright film.
The Cinematic Mind i've been waiting since _last year_ but the virus just had to come and ruin it for everyone didn't it😔
Thats why I am here
Song too good for the chaotic film.
One of the best songs of the 60's
Beat Club- Uschi Nercke
ha ha
U R right!
Great song, great footage from a great 60s band.
I love this song!
Hammer!!! Und Uschi Nerke auch. I love this song!
Here before this appears in the film
Whos here because they heard this song as the title of Edgar Wrights new film. I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!
Knowing Edgar Wright the lyrics will relate to the film in some way like This Corrosion did for The World's End and Brighton Rock did for Baby Driver.
@@benw4409 I can't wait!
I just love this song , I knew quite a few of their songs but this gem I only discovered a couple of years ago.
The most amazing band I never found until I was in my mid fourties.
Radio Bremen with "Beat-Club" and Uschi Nerke , they present all the good british Bands of those days on german telly once a week. I become sick for waiting to see the next issue of "Beat-Club" . It was the absolute hammer that kind of TV programm in those days in germany. Radio Bremen was dare to do so. Great!!
Thank God they didn't wipe their tapes like the useless BBC!
LIVE always
Uschi is a cute girl, is'nt she.
I was 14 and lost my heart when I saw her first time.
Wow love this band!
Just bought there greatest album, even though I have all singles, after seeing the film which was awesome
I genuinely thought this song was made for the film, basically because of those somewhat ominous strings during the chorus. I was like, "Oh! It's not really a 60s hit the film is referencing, it's just cleverly aping the style of the time with a sinister undertone. You nearly got me!"
Imagine my surprise as I discover that my first impression was right and EW had simply had the perfect song to cap his film off with.
Good work all round, I say.
Thanks for such great music
Yes, the song is in the film. And yes, the film is badass - and it actually surpassed Baby Driver, which I thought was impossible!
Yes
I must agree! I've watched it 10 times now. Recently performed an Aerial sculpt routine with my sister to "You're My World" as recorded by Anya Taylor Joy. I loved Baby Driver, but Soho is wonderfully haunting!!
Really? I love Baby Driver and found this pure MEH. Disappointed. But the music is awesome!
A little over a month until Last Night in Soho starring Anya Taylor-joy and Thomasin Mackenzie is released, and I'm so excited ! Can't wait to see how Edgar Wright uses this masterpiece in the movie, hopefully in a positively horror filled satirical way ;)) or maybe even the end credits...
Lmao, have you watched it yet?
1x LIVE IN FRANKFURT 💃🎸💃🎸🍻🔥🎊🎉🌊🎈⚡🔝🎆
I come because of the film
Last night in soho is really great amazing song ever made and movie was so great amazing beautiful horror thriller drama film
Bloody Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!
Prachtig nummer
They're best song.
Great Song
excellent !!! grace au film je connais cette chanson !!!!
At least this one has comments switched on.
I thought I’d heard all the last 60’s music had to offer thanks to Tony Blackburn. This song is awesome.
Dethroned only by my personal favourite ‘Eloise ‘ by the Barry bros.
I meant Barry Ryan sorry
Yes Eloise a great song.
I heard it by Helmut Lotti.
Fantastico.... 👍🤩
AWESOME
i think were it not for the jokey band name they would be held in higher regard as they were really pretty innovative.
Perfect song for the end credits…
Saw the film tonight and it's fab. I'd completely forgotten about this track until it popped up at the end of the film although Zanadu was one of my favourites as a child. Very under-rated band IMHO, but they are pretty kitsch!
'Kitsch (/kɪtʃ/ KITCH; loanword from German) is a term applied to art and design that is perceived as naïve imitation, overly eccentric, gratuitous or of banal taste'
Ummm, really?
Here before this song goes wild after the movie by Sir Edgar Wright takes on the big screen 😍
So excited!
@JACK I am planning to watch but the cinemas here are not yet open 😭
So miuch songs ❤️❤️❤️🎸💋💋😘🎷🎤🙏🏼🎤🙏🏼
Ein toller Titel
This track was accompanied on TOTP by a nice piece of film featuring a group of Rockers riding through the city at night. Shame it seems to have been lost.....
Probably a dodgy Presenter. The BBC digitalised everything.
I see a lot of people wondering if it's in the new Edgar Wright's movie. SPOILERS for those who don't want to know (no spoilers on the movie itself) :
It is in the movie :)
(For those wondering how I know, there's been several previews in Festivals in Europe)
Is it the credit song?
@@theadmiral3570 Good guess : yes it is :)
Thank god for that!!
Best recording of the song.
Met my beloved band in the 60ies, opening a clothes shop in Zurich, Switzerland, when I was a kid and too shy to look up when I got their signatures. Where are they?
So. Fucking. Awesome!!!!
clearly the strongest of them! 😋
Last Night in Soho movie end credits,

Fuck, i hated it
@@andresr.castaneda2440 the film? Damn it’s a very duplicitous film very contrasting from who loves it I personally thought it was a masterpiece but you gotta love the different opinions!
@@RJTheCerealGuy there's no matter on having a contrasting opinion. Everyone says art is subjective, isn't?
Also, i don't believe it is a bad movie, i just left the cinema very disappointed because my own perspectives of the film. At least most of the people liked it ;b
