  • What's dog bloat? It's the biggest killer of dog breeds.
If you give your dog too much food and then play with them, there's a chance their stomach could twist, causing a condition called bloat. It's important to get them to the vet quickly, within one to two hours, for emergency surgery. The vet will need to open up your dog, fix the twist in the stomach, and put it back in place to prevent serious problems. Acting fast in these situations is key to helping your pet recover.
Large, deep-chested breeds are more prone to this condition. For example, Great Danes will have 40% of chances of experiencing bloat during their lifetime. And all dogs will almost always die without immediate medical intervention.
Although any dog breed can develop bloat, the most predisposed breeds include Saint Bernards, Weimaraners, German Shepherds, Great Danes, Irish Setters, Gordon Setters, Standard Poodles, Basset Hounds, Doberman Pinschers, and Old English Sheepdogs.

    Signs and symptoms
One indicator that your dog might have flipped stomach is unsuccessful vomiting. Your dog will repeatedly try to vomit without bringing anything up. This is a big, big sign that your dog has flipped stomach. Sometimes you will see them producing a foamy saliva.
Another noticeable symptom is an enlarged abdomen, with your dog's stomach appearing bloated and swollen.
Most dogs will also act restless, pant, and may have difficulty breathing. They will have nervous energy, pacing around, and unable to sit still. Sometimes, they may be hunched over and have a tucked tail.

My GSD had bloat. My teenage son looked it up and saw how dangerous it was. Fortunately we got him to the vet in time! Costs about $3,000 but he was worth it! ❤

I adopted an abused dog. He had a case of pancreatitis and i took him to the vet. They did x rays and said his stomach had been surgically attached to his rib cage. It was obvious he had surgery to correct a flipped stomach. Knowing this i feed him a special meal once a day and leave the bowl full for him to eat at his leasure.

It's best giving less food two to three times a day.

You shouldn't run in terror after eating a 12 foot sub & a whole box of Scooby Snax.
