I will be learning how to propagate Aspen in the UK. My goal is to help create a corridor of Aspen from England all the way into Scotland. I will attempt to involve Garden centres and Nurseries in popularising interest in native keystone species.

If I wanted to plan aspen is it typical 600 bare root stock per acre?

Hi, Jesse! We first want to emphasize right tree, right space, right reason. 600 trees per acre would be at about 8.5' x 8.5' which kind of falls in the middle of the recommended plantation spacing from our resource document and in that the variation in planting spacing can depend on different factors. We have heard that aspen can be a very difficult tree to establish from seedings so it may be difficult. We would recommend taking a look at this document from the US Forest Service for more information: www.fs.usda.gov/research/treesearch/24942

@forestryfridays thank you for the quick reply! I've heard the same from some biologist in NE IA I've spoken too. They said root cultivars were the most successful. I'm going to try bare root stock and see what happens. But I will read the link and document you sent thank you very much I really appreciate it!
