Susanne Sundfør is another Norwegian artist worth checking out if you haven’t heard of her.
Her folklore inspiration is perhaps most noticeable in her last album «Blomi», but she has played classic, jazz and electronic as well. Can recommend: Alyosha (written as a love tribute to her first born, not actually named Alyosha, some say), When the Lord, Undercover, Memorial, Leikara Ljod, Kamikaze, White Foxes, the Sound of War (live at the Barbican), and Mountaineers featuring John Grant. When the Lord is the soundtrack to the documentary about photographer Lene Marie Fossen who died from anorexia in 2019. The video is so powerful one almost has to listen to the music without watching the video in order to fully pay attention to the music.

I’m so glad you like her and this song, she is a really great singer/songwriter 🤗
And yes, she wrote this song, as she does with all her songs
“My trip to Rwanda with Plan was tougher than I could have imagined, and that afternoon in the hospital with Little Bertie was so heartbreakingly surreal that it kind of felt like it wasn't really happening at all.
There was a woman my age in the queue outside the "hospital" when we arrived, and for some reason our eyes met. I have never seen such sad and desperate eyes before..
Her gaze followed me into the infirmary with Bertie, and after a short hour, terminally ill children with their parents began to roll in.
Number three in the queue was a little boy named Peter. He was completely apathetic. His mother came in with a small baby tied in a towel on her back, she was the woman with the eyes from the queue.
When Peter's little body was about to give up, he turned on himself and she started to panic. Her baby screamed all the time, so I took him, while she took Peter to the latrine to wash him.
I stood there in the sun in a beautiful country, working against my own tears (they help no one) while I frantically tried to calm the child in my arms, with no luck otherwise, with Norwegian lullabies.
I saw a mother who could have been me, without any kind of help or safety net; trying to wash his hot, feverish boy with cold water on a dirt floor..
    I will never forget it.
When we had to leave, she took my hand, looked at me with that look again and said "God bless you". I thought that this is hell, and that there is no God here, only demons in the form of mosquitoes, hunger and bacteria.
It couldn't have been more unfair.
I had a line of text in my head, in the car on the way back and it was "In The middle of hell lies a little St.Peter" ..
I came back to the house and wrote out the song. Straight from the heart. And I prayed. Because there, in that situation, there was nothing else to do.
It's the most damn thing I've ever been a part of.”

Thank you so much for giving us this explanation of what this lovely singer meant. I could feel the anguish, not just in her heart, but in her whole body. The hopelessness of wanting desperately to be able to DO SOMETHING, all the while knowing that there was nothing you could do. And, the anger that this was so.

I know I replied to you once before, but I just wanted to tell you that, almost a day later, I cannot get this song out of my mind. I have suggested it to several of my friends. It is just so emotionally impactful.
