Don't know if it were our school teachers or just the lazy us in the childhood, but things like Unix and others were something that most didn't grasp at the time. But now, looking at the sparkle in Ajay's eyes while speaking of these things, I really think you should make an episode where Ajay takes us on the whole journey of explaining these things to lay people like us. And Amit, what to speak of you, man! All this is possible 'coz of you; The man!
I checked my email for 7 years in grad school on Unix, and took it for granted. Eudora, Windows, others kept crashing, and yet, Unix made sense only once I left that environment. Masterclass.
we totally want Ajay ... I totally want Ajay to talk about Unix. Between UNIX, iMac, & a strong internet connection, and the world as a canvas, the universe can be explored infinitely :)
Your lives are so rich. Thank you for making us part of such rich lives by opening up about your ideas and motivations. Ajay is a truly renaissance man & his humility is disarming. His dignified presence in the frame allows Amit to be naughty at times. Great combination and more power to you two.
Unix is genius. I am an accountant by profession (at least as of now) and I am sometimes perplexed that we are wasting time over such simple stuff that in Unix command line you could do in a min. So all up for that episode.
"To organize life around one main purpose which is to get more hours per day to read " is my primary takeaway from this episode. This purpose can be realized only if you are curious and build the endurance to pursue that curiosity. Don't look for validation, or endorsement by pursuing mundane goals that constitute the markers of success. Go for something beyond- great Advice by Ajay Shah. This Episode is simply fascinating.
Yes for Unix demonstration. I want to see what is possible. Growing up with the UI has made me lazy. I have used a bit of Linux in college. I understand that the command line way is better and there is immense support of the open source community, but the barrier to switch feels taller than i can jump today (everyday).
Such a great conversation! Wish I understood more about Unix to know how it works, I am so fascinated! I loved how Ajay gave credit to their producer Vartika. I feel in our hustler mindset, we often miss out on the importance of teamwork on productivity. Creating a dream team is so important for success!
Ajay - i couldn't agree with you more about the gradient of quality - the gradient incrementally increases if there is a semblance of craftmanship in work.
I absolutely loved the demo and discussion on knowledge management. I've been a convert for over a year and it's made a huge impact to my career as a data scientist in public sector as well as helping me stay on top of my personal interest areas. I champion Obsidian (even though it's not FOSS) as I think it's easy to get started and build out a system that works for you over time. I love that my notes are markdown and I use to git to version control and port my notes between computers. As a previous user of emacs, I would be very keen to see Ajay's demo of emacs in org mode for knowledge management! I'm also interested to hear Amit's and Ajay's thoughts on managing learning in the long run - notes are just the beginning! Loving these episodes and looking forward to more! :-) Many thanks!!
Self notes.. not a comment.. don't just do it..BE IT. Self image drives your habit.. it starts a virtuous cycle.. identify with the habit.. have a bias got action.. start and get better .. don't let perfectionism be an enemy of production..what is the best version of myself, what does he do, what he doesn't do.. BE THAT. .. compliment yourself on effort and not on talent.. it's the effort that matters.. persistence.. discipline.. compliments on talent will fail you.. VERBS Matter ... ... curiosity and endurance are superpowers not talent.. habits are the compound interest of self improvement.. HAVE A PURPOSE.. what's the purpose of your life.. why are you in this world..
It's always fun to listen in! ...I was wondering about the impact of emotions on productivity in general. Neurodiversity, trauma... they all impact productivity. And why do we need productivity at all? Is productivity overrated? Hoping you can address that in a future episode!
Good advise and a fantastic episode as usual. The only issue I have is that I am completely intimidated but in a good way. After listening to you I wonder where the hell was I in this world that I don't know so many things even after 66 years of my life. Thanks brothers it's never too late and I am happy catching up now.
Another great episode, Thanks Ajay & Amit. I would love to learn more about UNIX from Ajay, a great teacher. In turn, I promise to try out all the things discussed about UNIX editors, etc., so that I can also experience the magic of these old, stable, and mature tools.
I think an important view to productivity was missed out in this episode: One must abstract the 'principles and rules' of being productive from the 'methods' to implement those principles and rules. Though Amit and Ajay do mention David Allen's 'Getting Things Done', they do not discuss its essence. David is such a productivity guru, yet he has never recommended a software or a physical tool to anyone. Tools are secondary: From obsolescence to inventions. From never-die favourites to contextual and practical choices. Principles and rules have a longer shelf life and run deeper and connect more meaningfully with what one wants to get done.
Yet another wonderful episode. As an aside, the Pinto Rebellion was not a ‘catholic/Protestant’ thing, but a more about local born clergy rebelling against the discrimination and autocracy of of the colonial Portuguese church. There were other economic drivers but that a whole different story. An excellent (and readable) book on the history of Goa is Manohar Malgonkar’s ‘Inside Goa’, illustrated by Mario Miranda.
After diving deep into your podcasts, there's something I've picked up on. There are a handful of guests who've truly left a mark on you. That Haryanvi guy, the one who kickstarted “Stage” in his own dialect, he's definitely one of them. And then there's Vikram Doctor. Man, I have a soft spot for him; he's just brilliant. I've yet to come across a food critic who even comes close. Pushpesh Pant? He's right up there, almost neck and neck with Vikram. Oh, and I can't forget Chandra Bhan Prasad. The way you keep referencing his take on diabetes, suggesting there's ample food and no scarcity in the village, it's clear he's made a lasting impression on you.
Thanks Ajay / Amit for sharing this intriguing arguments on productivity, this is my very fresh podcast journey and it just hit me best! I would like to know more on Purpose, a lot of us are blind here or are in the daily grind of things where we need a purpose but it just blurs with time. Could we get more deep dive in Ajay's way to finding / evolving purpose or a Chapter / Video on How to find your purpose? It will be helful
Curiosity & endurance🎉 Apps 👍 guess, would tell kids to do more of unix😅 Need for effort to be marked out rather than intelligence &/or charm😊 Nouns, verbs & adjective was a good insight❤ Thanks Fantastic🤘😝🤘 talk
Wonderful episode on getting the shit done. I am a regular listener of Amit Verma 's other podcast "The seen and unseen" mostly while commuting or walking. Can anyone help how to get the feed of this podcast into the podcast app?
There is a reason for Mr. Shenoy to tell Amit the story. Jose was of Goud Saraswat Brahmin ancestry, his ancestor being Anantha Shenoy who converted to Christianity. The Pinto rebellion was when the local converted clergy conspired to throw the Portuguese out of Goa.. their resentment was the Portuguese disrespect to local catholic priests
As a writer, one challenge I always face is what next? Not that I run out of ideas but I have so many that I can't seem to choose one to work on. Notion has come to my rescue. I have now created a project board with a plan for every idea. This helps me understand which of my idea is 'executable' in the writing sense. So, which one can be a good first draft, which should go to the next round and then plan my edits, etc. I have been able to add rough timelines as well. If I can bring at least one of my ideas to completion, I'll consider the process worthwhile. Also, Atomic Habits helped me during the pandemic when time seemed to stretch indefinitely. I built in some good habits into my daily routine around writing and exercise thanks to the tips from James Clear.
Kaator Re Bhaaji! to both of you🙏 😂 Amazing video,,,,that talent definition through athelete, Getting IT Done to Get It Right, Habits has the compounding effects etc etc fantastic. For sure it would be insightful to watch Mr. Shah explaining about Unix and we hope you guys will be coming with one video on it. Thanks for letting us to out of the box way of interpreting the things around us,,, thankyou very much🙏
Dear Amit, I am a regular listener of both ur shows. I have two small questions 1st: I am trying to read all your blogs/articles on India Uncut in a chronological and systematic way, But I didn't find any option which shows me chapter wise stuff. I really stuck at choosing topics. How can I navigate that, Please help. 2nd: Not a question but a asuggestion; Please make a video on how you and Dear Ajay Shah spend ur day. Like from waking up to sleeping, what do u do. How do u use the phone, what apps mostly, what do u watch and browse, do u read books, how and when etc etc.. Cover everthying of your days please.
Two points on the section when Ajay talks about emacs: first, vim over emacs! (I’m joking of course, both are great tools) and two, I feel for non-programmers tools like emacs or vim may not make sense for regular use. For programmers, who are already familiar with and use terminals and command lines regularly, emacs or vim can be a way of knowledge management without leaving the terminal. But most people wouldn’t use these tools regularly, so it may be easier for them to work with Notion or Roam Research or Obsidian
Amazing podcast but I guess audiences would like to have shorter videos (I am sure you would have already figured it and must have planned something), I suggest you creating shorts, this will attract masses and increase outreach. Insta, RUclips, TikTok, everyone is working on shorter video clips.

Just want to clear something! Is both Unix and Linux are same? Is Ajay recommendation is to use Linux only?
we totally want Ajay ... I totally want Ajay to talk about Unix. Between UNIX, iMac, & a strong internet connection, and the world as a canvas, the universe can be explored infinitely :)
Unix

Bug bug.
This is peak channel content. I wish I could subscribe to this channel twice. Much gratitude.

The punch line to me was "At the end of the tunnel, it is about figuring out the universe". Thanks a lot!

vartika snippet was too funny and cute
Yes please definitely an episode on unix and command line.
Man, Ajay is such a legend. So much respect!
This episode is so good that I got a bit intimidated… ye Kaha hai Aur mai Kaha hu.. Absolutely yes for Unix
@@amitvarma Arey no Amit please don't. This episode might just push an epic procrastinator like me to just act.
Yes, I want Ajay to elaborate further on Unix, for the sake non IT folks like me
Ajay - i couldn't agree with you more about the gradient of quality - the gradient incrementally increases if there is a semblance of craftmanship in work.
Donald Knuth checks are so heartwarming ~ And the Emacs fanboy in me got so EXCITED today!
Eagerly waiting for the UNIX ep

Need a demo from Ajay. Everything he spoke went over my head.

Lot of learnings and very inspiring, the only show I've consistently watched on RUclips
Very good. Please keep it up.
After avidly following the seen and unseen, another indulgence from Amit
slowly falling in love with this podcast T-T
the video show, and Ajay are just taking Amit's deep care & narrative to a completely different level. amazing stuff.

Ajay Sir,
Waiting for the Unix demo!!
Sure we want more productivity device and eager to listen full episodes on Linux.
Salman Akhar had said on comparing projected selves of others with yourselves is essentially comparing other persons drawing room with your bathroom.
If this episode were a book, I'll buy it.
The pot anecdote is presented as the picture anecdote in James Clear's Atomic Habits
Curiosity & endurance🎉
Apps 👍 guess, would tell kids to do more of unix😅
Need for effort to be marked out rather than intelligence &/or charm😊
Nouns, verbs & adjective was a good insight❤
Thanks
Fantastic🤘😝🤘 talk
Please do a video on Unix !
loved the episode. most importantly kaator re bhaaji

Dear Amit, I am a regular listener of both ur shows.
I have two small questions
1st: I am trying to read all your blogs/articles on India Uncut in a chronological and systematic way, But I didn't find any option which shows me chapter wise stuff.

In the modern world I think all knowledge workers should know some programming. And then the shell prompt beckons.
Please please please talk about UNIX... but more importantly please get the tshirt out😊
Great Episode
unix episode please
I want that T shirt please make it for all.
I am a mechanical engineer working in PSU .. how learning unix can help me

Isnt that sportsman example also called tenacity??
🎉
That dude running in the rain was koby Bryant. He said that
Thats Phelps in swimming
I have a lovely episode with Dr Ajay Shah too on my channel. Do let me know how you liked that as well.
Amazing podcast but I guess audiences would like to have shorter videos (I am sure you would have already figured it and must have planned something), I suggest you creating shorts, this will attract masses and increase outreach. Insta, RUclips, TikTok, everyone is working on shorter video clips.
Unix konsi bimari h ?
