Coraline has been officially dubbed into various languages, and each version brings its unique twist to the story. I've watched six adaptations of Coraline: German, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, and English. In this video, we'll delve into the distinctions between these versions. And the thing that instantly comes to my mind is the movie's title, which varies in different countries.

In German, the other father didn't say "her best bags" (ihre besten Taschen), but actually "her vest pocket" (ihre Westentasche). "To know something like your own vest pocket" is a common expression in German, like the English expression "to know something like the back of your hand", which you can't literally translate into German.
I see. My mistake. Sorry
@@Jakuzentano, don't worry. I can see how one might mishear it, since it sounds pretty similar.
Do you understand German or do you ask someone for help? I am learning russian currently, so I know I wouldn't do any better trying to analyse a Russian dub.
I appreciate your video series about different dubs, it's something that has always interested me. Thank you
@@DerVerschlinger In one video he said that he had hired people who speak the languages fluently. I think it was in the despicable me video.
I can confirm this (I live in Germany)
"The Fourteenth Door". Hmm, I like that title.
In the Brazillian dub,the movie is called "Coraline e o mundo secreto",which means Coraline and the secret world, something like that
Taiwan using the number four is interesting since four is considered to be connected to death. Which makes sense for story reasons
The danish name for Wyborn has always stuck with me, because I think it was really clever. In the danish version his name is "Willifred", but when it's said in danish it sounds like "Hvil I fred" which translates directly to "rest in peace". It manages to keep it's tone and also work well as a wordplay on his name. I think it's quite cool. Anyway, I really enjoy these types of videos with the language stuff. Keep it up!👍
3:37 this one made me laugh. The other ones are lyrics similar to the original whereas this one is just telling her to grow up. 😂
here are those scenes in the polish version
title: Coraline and the mysterious door
wyborns name: kept the same, wordplay changed into "framed into a gang"
other father's song: doesn't mention button eyes
coraline's politness: coraline doesn't say please, referes to the other mother in a casual way
wybie's huh?: kept
coraline's reaction to bobinskis delivery: kept the same
the other father telling coraline how much the other mother knows her: she knows you like her own pockets
coraline's friends in the picture: she says she cant wait till they meet irl and they tell her they're already with her talking with her
the other mother about other father's hunger: I bet he's as hungry as a wolf
I am German and i can say that the father from the other side diese not say:„sie kennt dich wie ihre besten taschen” heute sais:„sie kennt dich wirklich wie ihre Westen Tasche." that means vest pocket and it is a german saying.
Coraline is one of a very few movies that are just perfect
In poland, the only change I saw was her name. Its "Koralina" Instead of "Coraline" but it doesnt change THAT MUCH
Xима, мы тебя всегда найдём
In Czechia the film is called: Coraline and world behind a mysterious door
In Finnish, the title is "Coraline and the Other Reality." The movie itself isn't dubbed in Finnish, it only has subtitles.
2:38 I think you got the wrong flag for that dub 💀 that’s the Latin Spanish one I believe not the castellan one
I've question. Why are u don't upload so interesting video in ur Russian channel? Why are u limiting to degree by two versions of them (English & Russian)? Yeah, it was some interesting how difft contries made the show at dubs. Btw, name in Russian version of the movie is spoilered plot. Cause people will be guess what action do it has. And yet question: do u speak German & Italian? I thought u speak Russian, English, Ukrainian & little Spanish, dear
The German sentence „She knows you like her best bags“ is probably translated like this because it is a common way to say something like this in the German language. I’m not sure about it though.
He said ˋWestentasche, so more like she knows her like the pockets of her jacket. It’s actually a pretty close translation, when it comes to the meaning
@@fides7247 oh! ok, thank you. I probably misheard that or I just commented it like he translated the sentence.
At 5:53 it doesn’t translate to it stinks in here but to something along the lines of “what’s that smell”

@@mattybrunolucaszeneresalas9072, ладно, сорри. Я иногда веду себя грубо в общении, насчёт HIMA: этот автор Jaku, который выкладывает контент на своём Jaku, является автором ещё одного канала HIMA, на Jaku он выкладывает контент для иностранцев, а на HIMA он выкладывает контент на русском языке, короче HIMA - основной канал для автора, а Jaku лишь сделан чтобы англо язычная аудитория понимала, что говорит автор :D
