Coraline has been officially dubbed into various languages, and each version brings its unique twist to the story. I've watched six adaptations of Coraline: German, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, and English. In this video, we'll delve into the distinctions between these versions. And the thing that instantly comes to my mind is the movie's title, which varies in different countries.

In German, the other father didn't say "her best bags" (ihre besten Taschen), but actually "her vest pocket" (ihre Westentasche). "To know something like your own vest pocket" is a common expression in German, like the English expression "to know something like the back of your hand", which you can't literally translate into German.

@@Jakuzentano, don't worry. I can see how one might mishear it, since it sounds pretty similar.
Do you understand German or do you ask someone for help? I am learning russian currently, so I know I wouldn't do any better trying to analyse a Russian dub.
I appreciate your video series about different dubs, it's something that has always interested me. Thank you

Taiwan using the number four is interesting since four is considered to be connected to death. Which makes sense for story reasons

The danish name for Wyborn has always stuck with me, because I think it was really clever. In the danish version his name is "Willifred", but when it's said in danish it sounds like "Hvil I fred" which translates directly to "rest in peace". It manages to keep it's tone and also work well as a wordplay on his name. I think it's quite cool. Anyway, I really enjoy these types of videos with the language stuff. Keep it up!👍

3:37 this one made me laugh. The other ones are lyrics similar to the original whereas this one is just telling her to grow up. 😂

coraline's reaction to bobinskis delivery: kept the same
the other father telling coraline how much the other mother knows her: she knows you like her own pockets

I've question. Why are u don't upload so interesting video in ur Russian channel? Why are u limiting to degree by two versions of them (English & Russian)? Yeah, it was some interesting how difft contries made the show at dubs. Btw, name in Russian version of the movie is spoilered plot. Cause people will be guess what action do it has. And yet question: do u speak German & Italian? I thought u speak Russian, English, Ukrainian & little Spanish, dear

The German sentence „She knows you like her best bags“ is probably translated like this because it is a common way to say something like this in the German language. I’m not sure about it though.
