Hell Yeah! Mike V is an American Hero to me..... I'm 36 an he inspires me to keep skating just like he did when I was a kid. Took months to get back to where I left off years ago but once I hit that point the new skills came real fast.
I'm 10 years younger than you but I feel the same. After all my skating friends went their own way after high school I stopped skating...no one to skate with....no spots..etc...I took influence from Mike knowing that all of that yeah is great but YOU create skating. If you're happy on your board just riding downtown or hitting the skate park trying to throw down some tricks...it's all same (in my opinion) keep skating dude!!
+Mario Persico ... I am 41, taught all five of my kids to skate. none of them stuck with it, but it was a great bonding experience when they were younger. i still skate as often as I can, mostly ditches and street. it's funny getting kicked out of spots at this age.
Hellcat! haha it really is! But whatever you gotta do to keep the dream alive ya know? Thats rad that you taught your kids and everyone is into their own thing so maybe skating just isn't their cup of tea. Who knows maybe they'll come back to it later down the road!?
+vanzahn ... do it. there used to be a skate site/ forum called bonelessone with the tag line "if you are here, you are old". i bet something like that still exists.
I watch this film at least once A month. A lot of my friends who I used to skate don't do it anymore so this reminds me that I need to keep skating because I simply love it. I admire his passion and dedication for skating. In fact I'm watching this before heading into the city to go skate and explore!
This dude meant so much to us in the Netherlands. We saw Public Domain actually premier on big screen in Amsterdam. They did that back in the day when skatevids were sporadically released. He presented a gnarly street art with so much style. I almost lost my head! Been rippin hard since then and found peace and balance in doing so. Thanks Mike 🙏🏼
that's it I'm buying a board...been 12 years since I skated...but I got a concrete park a mile from home...I might be old and used up a bit...but shit this inspired me.
Best film ever. Mike should have won an Academy awards for this shit. If Skateboarding could be put into words. It was through this film. Such a humble dude. So sincere. Thanks Mike for all you have did for the skate community. Keeping the positivity in Skateboarding.
mike v. gave me his board at sea-skate in seattle.we were vibing having an amazing session and he saw my board was worked and gave me a white buffalo calf board.solid brother always has my respect for being a good dude.
its a shame this production hasn't received more light, ive grown an incredible amount of respect for mike after watching this video. be free and don't get caught in anyone else's hype but your own.
I've been around quite a while and seen a million skaters by now.... Mike V is my favorite to watch by far. Vallely's skating is what skating to me should be... pure punk, all the time. Legendary brother and a hero to us all.
mike makes me cry with his love.... honest ;love ... i had his first double tailed farm board... i got so much heat for the new style... and that style changed skating ... would like to one day to meet mike... I'm 40 now so i think it might never happen...his honesty is refreshing...
Im 41,and i had the same board,it was the first board with the double tail, well the nose and tail was a little dif,it was a barnyard graffic by 🌎,i loved that board!sad to say ot was my last board,i haven't skated since i was 15,i been busy kid raising, but she just started college and am thinking about getting back into it.i live in fay.n.c,and the city is about to build a million dollar park so i feel like if they had one when i was a kid i would have stayed at it,srry to type ur ear off!
I don't think I'll ever like his "style", and by that I solely mean his stiff body, chicken wing high arm, hard landing, not many switch tricks, etc, BUT I have never and will never cease to adore his personality, his spirit, and his artistry as a skateboarder, all of which is beautifully displayed in this video and what always matters to me. Thank you MV.
This film opened my eyes to skateboarding. In some way it changed my life about 3-4 years ago. When it's summer i always look forward to skateboarding, learning how to ollie again )) Skateboarding is more than just skateboarding, it's an amazing. Cheers from Russia.
I love this. Mike is an awesome dude. One of the reasons I got into skateboarding really. Back in middle school was when I started, now 26. It was just like how he said it should be. As in there was a small group of us and we could ride to/from school. Lots of downhills, the cities design was loosely based off of the garden city movement. But the streets are interesting and flow. Winding roads that follow the terrain.
At 30+ years in the game- I love people that roll as defacto ambassadors. Great story Mike- and an outstanding, heart-driven man for the Art of the Skateboard. Thank you for all you do, *A.
This is what skateboarding is all about, I would have loved to have skated with Mike V and Natas Kaupus 2 of my favorite skaters of all time...... AWESOME video!
That is cool that he did this. This is the type of movie that should be in the theaters. I am sure a lot of people would like to see Ian and Mike hanging out.
It's a lot easier for people to criticize Mike V than refute what he's saying. The dude is in a category all his own. The stronger the currents flow that remove skateboarding from it's roots, the harder Mike V swims against them. I admire his drive. He's more driven as time goes on. And he's skates because he's loves it, nothing else. It's all about getting on that board and rolling...catching the proverbial wave. This was an excellent piece with a whole mess of quotable wisdom. Thanks, Mike! :)
Sk8 again! im 37 now and grewup shreddin when Mike was on blacklabel. Just started back up last year after a 8yr break. Yesterday; rode for the 1st time since last fall and busted a fakie kickflip 1st try and continued rippen like i never missed a beat. Build Chi; Sk8! age is a #. I am watching this in 2023 and i am 44 and wondering how much is the skateboarding remained innocent...these days i better to push alone as there is no more groups to make you special😪. Its all about Competition .Everybody exclude everybody all about fame and money and likes.but to see this video makes me stronger to push...
I just started again a couple of months ago at 49 yrs old and Mike Vallely is already a huge influence and this Doc. just nails how I see skating. I love watching how Mike just starts carving around that park @11:42 and what he says about skating being his creative outlet and his paint brush. Not to mention the cool shit Ian had to say. I have always drawn, painted, sculpted etc. but never really pursued a sport avidly. But man do I love skating! I'm still really a beginner but am not doing too bad for a geezer who has probably only put in around 20-30 hrs max of practising since starting, but I feel like I get a bit better each time. Once you start, you never look at concrete, cement or asphalt the same way...or secretly thinking 'Is that skateable?' Well cheers to young and old who eat, breath and shit skating!
It's a shame to see so many people gravitate towards negativity and feel the need to be bitchy about a man who has done a tremendous amount for skateboarding and all the thousands of skater kids he's met along the way. Focus on the positive and just maybe you will magnetise some of that goodness into your life. Mike is a positive energy and a good spirit so quit wasting your time whining about how you think he ripped off Ed or 'ruined' Black Flag, wtf* Ed and he squashed it by the way, they got respect for each other. Mike was in a corner with baby and mounting bills that wait for no man. Just listen to the mans words and at least try to get what he's about, and as for talking about himself a lot, well that's what the video is all about so just sit back and learn something armchair critics because he has done a lot, so much more than bitching.
I've said 'Hi' to Mike. He was my hero when I was 15 wid Public Domain and all that. Then I saw him at a Gumball party and said 'hi mike' :) I arrived that day :D
The unforgettable and surprising moment is the moment to see two legends of skateboarding and Hard core... Ian mackaye and mike vallely.... 🤘Hard core and skate
Mike V is as calm as an Angel in this video but then you watch "411 Video Magazine Mike V Greatest Hits" and you see how crazy intense and PSYCHO he is lol. Mike V for Life!
I was just thinking that Mike's not a skater, he's an artist that paints with 4 wheels. Then he literally says that his skateboard is his paintbrush. I love the way this guy skates.
I don't know how to skate. But I always loved the idea of skateboarding and the passion and the punk music that goes with it. I love skateboarding and I have a lot of respect for Mike V after watching this.
Thanks for being an inspiration Mike! Thank you also for giving me the t-shirt off your back and a signed limited Mike V skateboard that is still sacred.
well I have to say that Mike was and still is my inspiration, a motivational model for me, when I went to the skateboard world there was only one way to be succesull make the hardest, highest, sickest tricks, it was like I never gonna get something in this sport and then I watched Mike and his trick and the way he got fun. Dude fucked over his homie Templeton by stealing his board sales money to maintain his $10,000 a month board sales "lifestyle" during the T/V skateboard days after leaving his previous sponsor. Kind of makes him a hypocrite, but there's always time to redeem yourself and he seems to have been trying hard to be a solid dude since his jacked behavior in the 90's.

That's what I did... takes a while to get back what we lost but once you do you shoot past all the young guys. It's awesome.
steve cliffe i just did the same about 7 months ago! it was the skating and fugazi that amped me up! skate or die!
I got back into it at 37 after 17 years away from it. The falls hurt a bit more and the bruises last longer but it's just as fun if not moreso!
steve cliffe get after it!

Mike: skateboarding transcends all barriers.
Me: how dare one, outcast, an outcast, when youre an outcast yourself.
"this video, inspirational"
Mike Vallely is the epiphany of skateboarding....He paved the way for so many boarders....Skating is real as real as you and me....\
My casual drive: going to out get food and gas
Mike v casual drive: going out to inspire and change at least 70 lives
mike makes me cry with his love.... honest ;love ... i had his first double tailed farm board... i got so much heat for the new style... and that style changed skating ... would like to one day to meet mike... I'm 40 now so i think it might never happen...his honesty is refreshing...

Mike Vallely is not only a great skater , but also a beautiful human being , I feel blessed to have watched this movie :)
This inspired me to keep skating, you don't have to be amazing as long as it comes from the heart, Mike V is the man \m/
But he is amazing though
I don't think I'll ever like his "style", and by that I solely mean his stiff body, chicken wing high arm, hard landing, not many switch tricks, etc, BUT I have never and will never cease to adore his personality, his spirit, and his artistry as a skateboarder, all of which is beautifully displayed in this video and what always matters to me. Mike V, the reason I practiced and perfected the boneless. I hit a boneless on a bank and flew. My favorite trick.

You're a great person Mike. Period

LOVE IT!!FROM OLDSCHOOL TO NEWSCHOOL
I was just thinking that Mike's not a skater, he's an artist that paints with 4 wheels. Then he literally says that his skateboard is his paintbrush. I love the way this guy skates.
this has been one of the best documentaries (if thats what this was) in a long time. always liked mike v. & this made me like him all that much more.
This was so inspiring to me, as a musician, as a father, as a very beginner skater. I wish you the best of luck dear Mike Vallely, thank you very much
This film was so absolutely moving and inspirational. Stand Strong!
Honestly what other pros has anyone seen that has the respect to visit a young kid with a possible terminal illness? thats respect
I don't know how to skate. But I always loved the idea of skateboarding and the passion and the punk music that goes with it. I love skateboarding and I have a lot of respect for Mike V after watching this.
I really miss him to see it skating, the same Rodney. they deserve not being forgotten
What an awesome guy!
Man! Lots of credit to the director, and of course Mike V for this inspiring piece. Thank you!
Thanks for being an inspiration Mike! Thank you also for giving me the t-shirt off your back and a signed limited Mike V skateboard that is still sacred.

I gotta go skate.
Great soundtrack!
In Jiu Jitsu we need someone like Mike V. 🤙
always my favourite
Some of Mike V's best skateboarding is in this video.
I thought his skating in his first Powell Peralta video was insane back in the day. He was and still is a beast.
well I have to say that Mike was and still is my inspiration, a motivational model for me, when I went to the skateboard world there was only one way to be succesull make the hardest, highest, sickest tricks, it was like I never gonna get something in this sport and then I watched Mike and his trick and the way he got fun. I realice it was the meaning of skateboarding. have fun
Great heart Mike!
Amazing skater. Even more amazing guy. Got to hang out and talk with him for about an hour.
How do you hate on Mike V I didnt know anyone didnt like him until reading some RUclips comments thats crazy hes the sickest skater ever
Dude fucked over his homie Templeton by stealing his board sales money to maintain his $10,000 a month board sales "lifestyle" during the T/V skateboard days after leaving his previous sponsor. I dont think he ever changed that much really. I remember him saying back in the day that fist fighting is something he hates than joins a hockey league just so he can fight those guys. Than years after he fires the guitar player from Black Flag in the middle of a show so he can prove himself to the guys that didnt like the guitar player. That was Mikes initiation to Black Flag. I think getting away from it all and skating in private in remote places with no public normalized him a little bit, now it lookes like it same old same old. A rad dude nevertheless.

Still this new Black Flag is shit, i stopped caring for Black Flag more then 10 years ago. Having Mike V in the band doesnt make them better.
theyve played some live shows yes but thats yet to be seen

the original badass we all looked up at his skills ...
totally agree about kids not being greatful to have parks, I grew up in a decent sized town of 25000 with a good sized skate community ,this was the late 90s early 2000s before skate parks started being excepted by communities .we got petitions with a few hundred signature to try to get a park and city council would always find reasons not to let us have one even if we raised money for it ,and at the same time they would be chasing us out of any spot we could find ,now days I see parks , nice ones in towns with like 2 or 3 thousand ppl where their cant be more then like 10 skaters in, and im in tx. a extremely conservative state .a big difference in skaters now as oppose to earlier generations is that back then you had to be willing to become a criminal to do it you had to trespass you had to vandalize so only rule breakers would even consider skating now a lot of kids that would not have broke rules just to skate are skating at their local park ,which is good and bad , good cuz more ppl skate and the skate community gets bigger and more excepted ,bad cuz the community is diluted, its not just the guys that love skating with a passion and would break laws just to do it ,now you got hipsters doing it cus its trendy, jocks doing it cus they want to be millionaire athletes, and soccer moms and overly competitive dads pushing their kids too hard. so I guess its good for the' sport' but not sure how it effects the art or lifestyle aspect of skating ,as a whole though Im glade kids have a place to skate but id rather just be allowed to skate around city without police interventions id take that over having a park cus there is just something about conquering your surroundings and redefining the architecture around you

He is honestly one of the most real skaters out there and probably the most humble
skating needs to be about having fun with friends, doing tricks and bailing and having a good time.
Not about sponsors, money or brands or shoes.
Classic!
I love this. I am 88 I am skateboarding and punk rock . I live next to Lansdowne bowl let's go skating Mike . Your nine club is the best btw tho it was long lol
I tried to measure this video using my Boneless-O-Meter and it started smoking and then blew up!
Do you remember when fuel was only 1.19 a gallon? Mike V remembers
I do,but i saw that and i knew this was a older video,cool ish
this video completely changed the way I look at skateboarding
this video inspires me, awesome!
Mike V is the raddest.
Mike V is a stuntman with a lot of style

I respect Mike V. He's a good role model. Thanks bro.
mike v always makes me want to go shred!!
Having an American Football track in this made me sooooooo happy.
i saw Mike in Puerto Rico Santurce at a Black Flag concert last year and he is a people person and badass skater
Mike Vallely is BEAST!
Forgot about that song by The Album Leaf- the mp in the beginning..
Great video!!
stoked on dat american football track
Mike is probably the most genuine pro out there.
Kindness enough said
one of the greats!!! Mike is the coolest!!!
amazing film. Mike V, keep inspiring the world to inspire itself.
This soundtrack is much better than the hip hop bullshit that gets played in skate videos nowadays.
Punk rock and stoner rock are great for skateboarding and I will allow some underground hiphop but it has to be hard not any of the radio shit
Tony hawks American wasteland had the best soundtrack
Most relevant today
i miss those gas prices :(
Mike, du bist ne Legende.
What a rad dude.
Lindo filme! Mike V é uma grande pessoa!
Thanks so much for this upload! Inspiring watch every time.
Ride free.
You see so many average standard tricks like a kickflip onto a box and think he doesnt have much in him besides his street plants, but then he does the fattest treflip mute across a pyramid. Dude does his thing

I remember being so stoked when I met when he played with black flag
