  • Sumter County Fire & EMS participated in a three-day special operations training event with Citrus County Fire Rescue and Hernando County Fire Rescue. These rescue agencies hold combined training annually in areas such as trench rescue, confined space rescue, hazardous materials, structural collapse and others. These low frequency, high-risk calls can happen at any time, which require training in order to successfully handle such situations.
In this video John Davis, Division Chief explains the second and final scenario where crews rescued an individual who had fallen down a ravine. In this scenario, the victim is located between a void/chasm requiring rescue. Team members had to construct a highline and reeving system to send the rescuer from point A across the gap on a highline, reeve to the victim, bring the victim to the highline, and then get the rescuer and victim to point B. Rescue personnel had to recognize the need for rope rescue and organize appropriate resources, construct a highline system with a trolley and reeving system, trolley rescuer from Point A to descent point, reeve rescue to victim location, package patient appropriately, and trolley the victim and rescuer to Point B.
