Supernatural was awesome in their choices of cars and their meanings to different folks. But the minute they showed Death's car, you knew he was gonna be the classiest asshole ever to walk Supernatural's fandom.
Amazing! You should cover the movie “ghost” theme. The section at the end when Unchained Melody is play by a string orchestra. You’d sound amazing !! X
Sounds awesome as always Lauren!! , please do the gaunter o dimm theme from the witcher 3!! It's one of those songs that sound cheery but carry a severe warning about making deals with evil :)
Such a shame that I can only give 1 thumbs up!! So very beautifully haunting. Hopefully every one of my views count! So awesome! Love your voice and everything you do!😍
Man, as always, what a great cover, but this one is particularly great. This song will forever be tied to one of my favourite scenes from Supernatural ever, pure goosebumps.
The one in Oh Brother Where Art Thou is particularly poignant as I believe it was one of the last things that singer ever recorded before his death of old age.
@@ChickenOfAwesome I do love that as a story, and I'd heard it before, but unfortunately (well, kind of fortunately, actually!) that's a myth. The movie came out in 2000 and Ralph Stanley lived on until 2016 and performed many years after the film. He and his band, the Clinch Mountain Boys, continued touring until 2013, when he announced his farewell tour scheduled for late 2014, but after being elected a fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences juuuuuuuust before his farewell tour was supposed to start, he was inspired enough to decline retirement and I thiiiiiiiiiiink continued until his death from skin cancer. One really interesting thing about his rendition is that it was made famous on the banjo by a singer named "Docks" Bogg, and Stanley himself was famous for his unique banjo style, which is why he was chosen to interview for the film's version. But after giving the banjo-based recordings, he begged T-Bone, the musical producer, to let him sing it "the way I want to sing it" and, in his words (I had to look this up, to copy/paste because it's great): " I laid my banjo down and sung it a cappella. After two or three verses, he stopped me and said, 'That's it.' " (He also won a Grammy a couple years later for the film's rendition.) That said, for an actual true "version" of the myth (possibly where the myth about Ralph Stanley started, albeit it was a different song and different singer), the famous Johnny Cash covered the infamous Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt" in 2003, the same year he died - it was the last music video the man ever made; and as fantastic a music video as it was (and it was kind of legendarily amazing), the fact that it was the last thing Cash ever produced is overwhelmingly emotional for me. I *highly* recommend anyone go watch that video.
This one is going to hit me so hard. I’m underwhelmed with the original song overall but that first chorus is amazingly eerie and I know you’ll kill it.
Story Time: you lie in bed, frail, old & dying as you begin to ponder your life choices. You were successful in your job, you married for love, and raised wonderful children that grew into successful & happy adults with families of their own. Even though you regret nothing in life, you're still scared to pass on. Your children & grandchildren sit by your bedside with your S.O. holding your hand. With your last breath, you begin singing "Oh Death". Even with your voice being dry & stressed, you still sound great. As you sing, your family starts to shed tears. As you reach the end of the song, enchanting & angelic singing can be heard at 2:30, finishing the final line of the song. Appearing before you is a stunningly beautiful woman in a black funeral dress with an outstretched hand. Knowing this woman was Death, you grab her hand & become ethereal. You expect Death to be cold & serious, she instead has a kind and warm smile on her face. She tells you that even though your passing on, you will see them again one day. You turn your head over to your family crying over your body. You walk away with Death with a smile & a tear rolling down your face, knowing that you will see your family again someday. UPDATE: this song hits me harder because my grandma passed away in her sleep last Thursday. May she rest in peace.
I can’t believe this incredible human being asked what song we should be graced with next, I suggested this one, and like a flash she is doing it 😳😍😄🎼☠️ I’m so excited for everything you do Lauren!
Great singing Lauren, wonderful voice. I haven't heard this song before, and in all honesty, I cannot understand why it would be regarded as a Creepy song. I quite liked it. The lyrics are a fairly straightforward statement of the conundrum posed by dying, even if they give death a voice of its own in one verse, and they don't seem to threaten or even shock in any way, so where the music is pleasantly dramatic and so very well vocalised, I truly can't see the association with spookiness that this series of performances is said to hold. However, the twisted faces straining to force themselves out of the concrete walls in the background to these shots of you in the stairwell, that's something else, and how do you put up with that smell.
It really isn't a creepy song. It's a matter of fact song. It's from Appalachia, dates at least to the 1920s (if not before). Death was, up until fairly recently, an everyday fact of life. The laying out of the body and burials were done at home.
OMG SUPERNATURAL VERSION !!! CAN'T WAIT Btw I wouldn't want to be in that stairwell when she is singing this lmao. My heart almost stopped when billy came on the first time singing this And by the way : that was AWESOME!
I so hope that one day you can do the Trampled Rose in spook fashion in the stair well. The song is so haunting and I really believe you can do it more than justice.
i am late but THIS MADE ME THE HAPPIEST PERSON ON EARTH- heres lyrics "Oh death. Oh, death. Oh death. Won't you spare me over another year? No love no silver no ruin no gold, nothing satisfies me but your soul Oh death, Oh death, Well I am death none can excel, I'll open the door to heaven or hell. Oh death. Oh death. This isn't creepy, it's beautiful...just that sweet voice, and what sounds like doors slamming shut in the background. Remember that Death is always near, from the moment of our birth, and he's the friend who takes us all home at the end of the long and troublesome day that is LIfe.
