I've known for years that when you price to prune a hedge you should look to see how wide it is but unfortunately this isn't always easy to do . I got a real shock when I started on this laurel hedge. Let me know in the comments if you have been caught out with an extra wide hedge . So..on with cutting the WIDEST hedge EVER in LHL history 😁..

All you do interests me and keeps me busy watching. I used to garden years ago but am unable to anymore but this let's me vicariously live through your videos. Thank you :)

@@LHLgardenservices ya I love ❤️ hedge cutting and weeding that’s fun to me but a lot of people don’t like that when I worked at Walton hall I would go into the old greenhouses and do weeding if it was raining my job was to decorate with all the flowering plants in the greenhouse I was a floral decorator and gardener xx 😘 miss those days Lee I was taught by old gardeners xx but they closed the old greenhouses down and now there open again rebuilt the glass houses I was invited to the official opening xx 😘 the head gardener was there Dave Hatcher and Alan Kermode it was nice catching up but Alan died last year not many of us left now Dave 90 this year I’ve just been putting primroses in the front garden 🪴 and pulling a few weeds xx 😘

I have been binging on your videos. I worry that once iam caught up i will go into withdrawal if i have to wait too long.
I have to be honest and say I never really cared for the accent, but for some reason I really like listening to you, perhaps because of advice, the passion, care and love of nature. Loving the accent now x

I look over all your videos, I went back to the start and slowly working my way through, I tend to spend an hour watching, then go out into my garden and attack my shrubs, trying to remember all you say, I just need your equipment, lol. To my horror 🙈🤣🤣🤣
Another great vid :) your work ethic is amazing ! :)

Awesome job ! that hedge was a monster!
Absolutely 🌲🌲🌲...😉 cheers
Morning, I tried your technique of mulching the hedge leaves this morning it worked a charm. I didn't have a choice it was on an embankment so I was fighting with the lawn mower to keep it under the hedge. Thanks do I owe you anything? Great video keep up the great work.
🙈🤣🤣👍👍👍
Great you cut a hedge, good man,i'm doing the same with hand clippers for 35 years, less talk, more work.
🤣🤣
Could that back hedge be cut back to make it a normal width and then the garden would gain some area or would it look bare if it’s cut back like privet does?
Absolutely yes it could..but its whether the customer will pay for that.👍
If I had a hedge like that, I would ask you to cut it like a castle with some secret rooms in it for my grandkids to play in. Must be fun to them
😆😆👍
This is a good example of a hedge that would have profited from professional cutting and maintenance from its early days . This is no criticism of the owners because most of us are too busy doing other gardening jobs and hedges tend to get overlooked. Nice job mate .
Great Job Sr.!!
Amazing video Lee. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🌳🌳
Hi Lee. Fantastic work. I love how you give so much info on yout videos. Learning lots from you. Can I ask what fertiliser would u feed a hedge as in what n p k ? I have a laurel that is7 years old and been cut each year but 5 or 6 plants just bot getting that strong. I know they are competing with trees on 1 side so they need something to push them on. Any help would be very appreciated.👍

Yep I know what you mean, I've had todo boundary laurels of a large garden. The laurel then backs onto a woodland which is on a different level. Theres a full stretch out to get to back of hedge plus restricted access behind to get to other side
spot on mate....we get there in the end eh👍👍👍
You do a really good job so enjoyable to watch
thank you that's very nice of you 😊😊
That's top notch work Lee, and loads of it!. Yes, I've been caught out before. Priced up a privet hedge but only looked from the outside. Didn't realise there was a leylandii hedge right inside it, and the whole thing was approx. 10 ft wide. Even worse, it was an 'L' shape, so the corner must have been 15-16 ft across. I had to lie on top to cut it!
🙈🙈🙈🙈 yep...horrible isn't it......👍👍👍

I'm not being funny, and I'm sure I will get abuse, but buy a small drone to have a look at a hedge you may not be able to get to the other side of to make estimates of time and price for the job. It could even impress the customer.
I had a fella come to do the gutters who had one and was able to show me the before and after of his work, the before was much worse than I has imagined. .
@@wjf0ne no mate that's not a bad idea...I agree. Thing is ...ive got a drone.. I've had it for over a year and I cant use it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

As your gardening skills prove, practice makes perfect, or as near as possible. Get it out and show us a before and after from above on the bigger jobs.
By the way, I'm glad to see you wearing a dust mask, that cough you had in previous videos was concerning.
@@wjf0ne not at all, it's a great idea. I was just inexperienced at the time and didn't bother walking around the other side. haven't made that mistake again! I'll be semi-retiring next year so I'll leave the tech stuff to young 'uns like Lee :-)
What a great job!
Thanks very much 😁😁
Looks better than the lilac bush I have been slowly working on! Don’t have the proper tools but am making things work in a attempt to clear the dead and get some life back in it! It was skeletal and very sickly likely due to the lack of rain making it a easy target.

Superb work again Lee. I was wondering whether you'd get this job after the lawn work in an earlier video. At 7min 50sec you mention swapping to loppers. As a rule what thickness would you say the hedge trimmer is good too without suffering too much on the blades?
Look forward to your reply, and as ever look forward to the next upload and hopefully you get the job next door.
Cheers fella.
Alan Buchanan not much over a pencil thickness unless you enjoy buying new heads (gearbox fails) on a regular basis in my experience.
🙈🙈yes as been said about a pencil thickness..you will know yourself if it struggles a little..also keep the blades sharp..👍
@@jackw9920 - many thanks for this reply. I'm new to the game and as Lee and others make it look so easy with great results, I didn't want to jump in and wreck the blades after a minute.

Hi LEE HOW LONG DID THIS TAKE TO DO AND HOW MUCH DID YOU CHARGE.
I seen a tool that holds your hedge cutters for you and straps over your shoulders to take the weight, called an “elephants trunk” or something along those lines, have you seen it or thought of giving one a try?
Yeah buddy been around for years...never fancied one ....🙈🙈🙈
Regarding cutting hedges, when cuttings fall into the neighbours garden do you go around and collect them or just try your best to keep the coming to your side when trimming the top?
I would be a liar if I said I never drop any over but it's very rare. I pull the shears towards me when I cut and this makes the cuttings fall my way.
Question, how do you do the tall hedges evenly without a chalk line ?
it's in the video 👍👍👍

definatley a deep hedge, I have heard some people use a large board to kneel on top of and rest on top, never tried it...too scared of heights.
🤣🤣yeah a wide board works well mate but wouldn't on this one it was too weak . I couldn't even rest my long reach on the top to take a picture...they word falling through 🙈🙈
It's always more strenuous and time consuming going up ladders and squaring off the
top of hedges. Customer is unaware of the effort needed.
Absolutely 😊😊

Thank you 🤩👍
Great job as always man u must have melted
cheers buddy..yeah it was a slog in that heat🌞🌞
Everyone always moans about the length! De do doe don’t de however Lee just goes to prove, it’s not always about the length!!!
Laurel hedges are the worst - an absolute bugger to cut! Think you'll agree!
😁😁I don't actually mind them 😉
I notice when you are cutting on the downstroke when doing hedges in a few videos, and it is snagging into the hedge and causing holes/unevenness because it pulls the branch down and then cuts. I think if you were to cut only on the upstroke it would give an even better finish. I watched this over and noticed that it cut too deep when you were cutting on the down stroke pass. I do a ton of hedges so i just wanted to point this out because i think you do a great job but maybe were unaware of this. Keep it up. been big fan for a few years
Don't know why it looks like that buddy ..I can assure you there ain't no holes ..chunks or bites taken out 👍
