Absolutely wild how open they actually have been about this and nothing made waves until Mel B opened her mouth to Piers Morgan. Who absolutely knew what he was asking. Including some of the most telling quotes in the 1990s below. From the hundreds that exist. Will post the 2000s in a separate comment. 1997. Mel C: The others say, ‘Come on, everyone has fantasies about lesbian things,’ and I’m like, ‘Do they?’ 1997. Geri: When I first met Mel B I thought, ‘What a beautiful girl’, you know. [...] Then you get to know their bad habits, the good bits, you know, the moods, the happy bits. You take all of it. It’s like a marriage. 1997. Geri: “I’m always short of underwear,” she explains. “In fact, today I’m wearing a pair of Melanie B’s knickers.” 1997. Rolling Stone: Later, Geri and Victoria tried to drum my sexuality out of me. When I resisted, Geri attempted to use the Truman Capote self-revelation method: “I’ll say. I’m mixed. Can’t decide.” 1997. Mel B: She’s the best friend I’ve ever, ever had. (Scary definitely wants to get this point across.) We’re like soul mates, in fact we’re closer [...] As soon as we met we connected. It was fate, it was meant to be. She knows me inside out and I know her inside out. We were meant to be together. Geri used to have an imaginary friend when she was little and its initials were MB - same as me, Melanie Brown. 1997. Select: It’s also very possible the girls have grown women lusting after them. Would they be interested? “Probably,” smiles Geri. “It’s like asking, would you ever eat strawberry ice cream? If you’ve never tried it you don’t know if you like it or not.” “But the question was, would you sleep with a woman?” asks Mel B. “Yes, I would. I’m pretty liberated, it doesn’t bother me. I think you are what you are. Why, are you offering?” 1997: During an “agony” session on the controversial Girlie Show, one fan tells how she is worried that a female pal fantasises about her. Grinning Geri replies: “It could be quite harmless. A lot of people have fantasies about the same sex. I have. Everyone has.” 1999. Geri: “It’s as if I’ve just left a marriage. [...] “It’s quite hard to say,” she sighs. “At the time, I said there were differences between us and there were, but they were personal. There were adult reasons why I left, but our fans are children and I didn’t want to shatter their dreams." 1999. Geri: "I loved that girl [Mel B] intensely and I think the feeling was mutual. And I think, to be frank and honest and I don’t want to patronise anybody. Without betraying our relationship, we - You know, you take it out on the ones you love the most. And we just had that, such an intense relationship." 1999. Mel B's Mum: “I don’t think [Geri]’ll be coming [to the baby shower]. The girls were just too close when Geri was in the band and Mel is still shocked at how she left." 1999. Geri: “When I left the Spice Girls it felt like a divorce, and as a result, I didn’t feel ready to have a relationship with a man." 1999. Geri: "The wedding night [between Mel B and her husband, Jimmy] I watched The Sound of Music and had a glass of wine. My mother, for once in her life, encouraged me to get drunk.” 1999. Geri: "I won’t say anything adverse about the others because there was a camaraderie, we empowered each other, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. But supposing you fell in love, had this fantastic romance - and then it went pear-shaped? I don’t know, maybe I expected too much from the relationship." 1999. Geri: "I think about them a lot. I do dream about them a lot. Yeah, I do. I dreamt about them last night. Um, it’s kind of a healing thing. It’s so much about moving on, working through like an ex-boyfriend or an ex-lover that was so much part of my life." 1999. If Only [old diary entry]: Melanie declared me her true friend tonight so I guess it is true. We have been through a lot - perhaps more than most long relationships last. It has been demanding, intense and hectic, confusing, frustrating but good. 1999. Geri: “Kylie is a brilliant kisser but she hasn’t made me turn,” she jokes. “I could never go out with a girl smaller than me!”
Thank you for these! It's crazy how open Geri was about their relationship and it went over everyone's heads. I'm going to try and find sources for these quotes and they can be added to my files 📂
Oh my God, I would really appreciate that! Would you send them to my business email? Also, please let me know if you want to be credited and by what name if I use some of the quotes in future content.
@@SapphicUnderground Yeah, sure thing! There'll all sitting on a barely constructed free website (because I was an idiot and haven't saved them in a doc) but I'll shoot you a link and explanation, etc.
They were both smart _And_ careful, but considering how much of a a pack of blood hounds the British Press are, I’m shocked and surprised they missed this.
it's called "not promoting this lifestyle" and it was never talked about. editors probably banned it. thank everyone who fought for freedom so people can live their lives now 🏳️🌈
Right, T.A.T.U. were indeed a fake lesbian pop duo, at least the T.A.T.U. girls both also stated in interviews many years ago that they are bisexual though.
Not really TaTu s fault, they wrte under the instruction of their management and marketed that way. All the things she said was an absolute banger though too
There was talk about how Yulia was in relationships with women from time to time. But tATu's story wasn't hers because of how little agency they had. But just because something wasn't real or eternal doesn't mean it wasn't beautiful.... I have a lot of feelings about tATu.
Mel b not being known as an opnly bi women is one of the most confusing things ever . The women went repitrtly on record about dating girls and people are still somehow " surprised" by har doing so
As a Canadian, all I've really heard from Mel B since their prime has been: Her thing with Eddie Murphy, her having babies & messy baby daddy drama, & the occasional talk of a Spice Girl's reunion. Didn't they do some shows a couple years ago? My consensus, people don't really know because the public never really cared about these women on an individual level. It was all about the group. Let's face it, Posh is only talked about because of who she married. She was the least popular one before that. 😂
Nothing wrong with that..to each their own. No judging RESPECT...it seems like people have forgotten what that is these days..Sad...what should matter is people raising their Children. To Love & not hate...plan pregnancies and love & nurture your child Teach them respect & manners...some kids these days Lack the Values & Respect...whats goin on? They are the Future...think about it. & #1- Treat People how you want to be treated..Obviously with Respect & No Judgement...change things in this world. Michael sang it best- Man in the mirror.. it All starts there✌️❤️🙏
Wow as a massive spice girls fan and a lesbian I am embarrassed about how little i knew about this so thanks so much for the video. They announced Geri was leaving on my 10th birthday and i remember crying all day 😂. I then really hated Geri for years afterwards. Now i feel really bad about it and feel sorry for her!
Yes! Same! I was a little bit older, (12) but I had always LOVED the Spice Girls and was so mad that Geri decided to leave. I'm sad now that I judged her so harshly, especially being a young Queer person. I wasn't reading the signs of their relationship, and now I understand how hard that must have been for her to have to step away from someone/ something she loved.
@@ronibigbangnicole yes, I totally agree! Makes me want to do a total deep dive and rewatch a ton of interviews etc. I bet I would have a different favourite spice girl if I'd have been older at the time too! Like you said, we were just completely too young to see or hear any subtext between them or pick up on rumors flying around about them.
I thought she was straight AF as a kid! In fact, I thought her and Posh were literally the straightest women there (though in Mel's case, I was wrong).
As neither a lesbian nor a fan of the Spice Girls, I have no idea why this was recommended to me, but I'm glad I only now found out why they broke up. I remember it being so sudden and surprising.
As a queer women who grew up a 90s baby, how did I not know this info??? How has this completely evaded me?…. What’s even more ironic is every time we pretended to be the spice girls in my little friend group, I was always assigned Ginger lol I love Ginger! Long live the spice girls. ❤
I feel the same way!! How did this evade my knowledge !!! (Probably because I was 10 and it was the 90s to be honest). I always played scary spice in my friendship group hahaha
Actually, I remember seeing a few fan fics that centered on Geri and Emma having a romance. This was back in the 90's in different fan run message boards.
Thank you for this video, I must have been living under a rock because I didn't know of this love affair. How cute and in love they appeared in those pictures. What a shame it had to end.
Wow. I had no idea these two were an item. The nineties were fraught with a lot of clubbing and drinking so I missed out on this piece of Sapphic herstory. Thanks for this video!
“If you put two and two together, you will see what are friendship is for.” When Geri sang those lyrics in Spice World, it always made me question what was going on.
Now I'm just wondering 1) WHAT exactly broke them up and 2) was the Spice Girls breaking a bad thing in retrospect? Because based on how the 2000s started and ended, I'm wondering if the Spice Girls' 90s-exclusiveness is what makes them immortal?
I remember watching an interview where Geri was talking about how her dad died around that time and being upset with Mel B. I can't remember the specifics but I think she expected her to be more there for her emotionally
It makes me sad that Geri allowed herself to make Mel B the center of her universe, and when that imploded, she could no longer continue in this band.@@propogandalf
Learned something new today! Thanks Sapphic Underground! Feeling more respect for the Spice Girls than I did before (I'm a metalhead, so, pop is not really my thing...no hate, just my preference).
In ‘96 I was 12 and my gay awaking was because of Mel B, it was nothing sexual but it was enough. And when I found out about this I was like, eep my heart 😊.
@@dariavitafede3546 for sure! When I found out Mel was bi I was like out of all the people to crush on that made me aware of my sexuality, it was someone who is part of the community! Then her and ginger 💜My first crush was Juliet Lewis but I didn’t know it at the time lol.
Yeah Sporty spice was FOR SURE the catalyst for my sexual/gay awakening. To this day I’m still very much attracted to women who resemble her. I put that 2 and 2 together much after I grew up but i definitely realized it eventually.
I was 15 when the SG took the world of pop in the 90s. They were always touchy and clingy with each other. It was fun. Until this day, I found Geri H SO atractive. Knowing she might have had a fling with another woman, makes my little teen gay heart so happy.
In the 2000s, things weren't any less subtle. 2000. Mel B: "When people say we’re big enemies they forget that we used to be so close. We spent three Christmases together, just me and her lying on a beach." 2000. Jimmy [Mel B's ex-husband]: "She also sobbed about Geri and said, ‘We were real friends. I don’t understand why she did that to me. Why didn’t she tell me, Jim? I really trusted her."" 2000. Loaded: Let’s discuss the rumour that you and Geri have always been more than good friends… Mel B: Sexual partners, you mean? Nah. We were the best of mates for a long time. But we never had sex. 2001. Geri: “I find women sexy. I find men sexy. I’m having a gay phase. I’ve always liked the company of gay men. I’m a gay man almost trapped in a girl’s body. I like male company but without the penis threat.” 2001. Geri: “We almost encouraged each other and that energy got very strong, kind of frightening and we thought we could do anything. Our relationship was very volatile but I have a relationship with Melanie today and I always will.” 2001. Geri: Geri’s spending spree follows her raunchy lesbian-style shows in Rome and at the London Party In The Park, where she writhed with scantily-clad girl dancers as they licked her body. Before the London show she was spotted snogging one girl before they went on stage. [...] “I am living out this lesbian fantasy on the stage.” 2001. Geri: “I was entertaining the idea of becoming a lesbian a couple of months ago. I met these two girls at a party, both were really beautiful and I was fascinated with the idea of whether it was easier to understand one another because they were both girls. You can fall in love with anyone. It’s the sparkle in their eyes. Or it might be spiritual. You don’t have to act it out in a sexual way. I went to an all-girls school, so obviously I questioned my own sexuality many times if I thought, ‘Oh God. She’s so pretty’.” 2002. Jimmy [Mel B's ex-husband]: Careful not to explicitly spell out the exact nature of their relationship Jimmy will tell viewers that the pair were as intimate as he was with Mel. He said: “Melanie and Geri had a relationship with each other which goes deeper than a lot of people think. After Geri left the group she was just slagging her off. She did the same thing with me. Because of that you can see there is a deeper thing going on there between Geri and Melanie than only just being members of the same group." 2002. Jimmy [Mel B's ex-husband]: When he joined them on tour as a dancer, far from being at each other’s throats, his wife-to-be and Geri Halliwell were very intimate. “Yes,” he says, “they had a very close friendship. When I came in the picture Geri tried to put me down, because she knew that Melanie liked me. Geri wasn’t the only one she was close with. There have been a couple. I’m not saying anything. I’m just saying that they were really close with each other.” 2002. Jimmy [Mel B's ex-husband]: “Geri is not the only one she was that close with, there were others. I didn’t find it a problem because, after all, I was brought up in Amsterdam and everybody goes through their experimental phases.” 2002. Catching Fire [Mel B's book]: We were like boyfriend and girlfriend in that we could have horrific arguments always knowing that we’d make it up afterwards. [...] Our disagreements didn’t stop us being inseparable though. I got on really well with the others, but Geri was the one. 2002. Catching Fire [Mel B's book]: Geri and I had another great holiday together the next year, in Sri Lanka, with Richie. So what if I had a boyfriend? She was my best mate and we didn’t go anywhere without each other. (Admittedly, I think some of the other people in the hotel thought we were a swinging threesome!). 2003. Geri: "I’m a girl so I’m not like that, but I’d be probably kind of having loads of chicks around me and - If I was a guy like him, I’d wanna, you know, do Britney and all of those. I’m not saying that you did, I’m not suggesting that. But if I was and I could, I would. Cos she’s hot." 2003. Geri [select quotes on Howard Stern, also refused to answer when asked multiple times if it was a Spice Girl and/or someone famous]: “I had a little lesbian thing but I’m not saying anything about it. And I don’t think the girl was a real lesbian. I’m being honest. I’m not going to describe it. That is as far as I’m going with it. You have to respect the boundaries. I realised pretty quickly that I was not a lesbian. I don’t mind boobs but the other bit is not my cup of tea. I could never ever say who it was. It was just one of those moments. I have actually never told anyone this before. It is definitely a real guy fantasy thing. I think it is just part of experimenting - I was kind of drunk at the time.” Geri refused to pinpoint the date, but said: “It was somewhere between the ages of 16 and 30. It was just a drunken moment. I certainly can’t remember what I was wearing at the time. I’m going to leave the rest to your imagination. I am being honest about what I said but that is as far as I’m going.” 2003. Just For The Record, Geri: Deep down in my heart of hearts I know that the disagreement about the interview was a life raft I used to get out of the group. In a way I was looking for a reason and that was the one that came to hand. I found it easier to talk about other issues and to focus on other things rather than face up to myself and how I was feeling. I’d always found it really difficult to say, ‘You’re hurting me’. The situation I was in was more of a relationship breakdown than an argument of principle over one particular issue. 2005. Daily Mail: [Mel B] is less forthcoming, however, about allegations, made by a dancer at a club in Berkshire, who claimed she had a lesbian fling with Melanie. There have been other lesbian rumours, including one that she and Geri Halliwell used to be particularly close. Melanie’s ex-husband has hinted that she has enjoyed intimate relationships with women, including Geri. In LA, there have been rumours of a relationship between Melanie and lesbian filmmaker Christine Crokos. The couple have been photographed out together, publicly kissing. So are the rumours true? Melanie refuses to confirm or deny them. She simply laughs and says, ‘You’d better ask the people who wrote about them.’ 2005. Popworld: SIMON: Was there some girl on girl action? GERI: You’d - [laughs] [...] MIQUITA: Shall I ask it? Was there any girl on girl action? GERI: [laughs] MIQUITA: Does that feel nicer? GERI: It feels softer, doesn’t it? SIMON: So we’ll take that as sort of a yes, occasionally, you dabbled. GERI: Whatever. Whatever. 2007. Mel C: “Melanie B and Geri’s relationship was always very fiery; they were either inseparable or had big blazing rows.” We remind her of the other theories - in 2005 Melanie B’s ex husband Jimmy Gulzar hinted that his then-wife and Geri had been more than just friends. “That isn’t true,” Melanie laughs. Then with a wink, adds, “As far as I know. No, they were both just very passionate." [...] What, no ever a girl-on-girl snog? “Not in a sexual way. Jokingly with the Spice Girls, maybe. A few of them have had snogs…” And that’s as far as it went sex-wise with the Spices? “As far as I know,” she says, laughing. “When I was in the room, at any rate.” 2007. Sunday Mirror: I can reveal that before they went on air, Victoria Beckham turned to the audience and shouted: “We reckon Geri is going to find her future husband here in America. What do you look for in a man, Geri?” [...] But then Mel B, who’s had an affair with another woman, yelled: “Are there any lesbians here? It’s always good to have options.” 2007. Pop Tarts: “We don’t fight and we don’t share clothes,” Melanie “Scary” Brown said. “And we don’t sleep together.” [...] “I mean, could you imagine waking up to this (points to Scary’s body) every day of your life?” Geri laughed. “I just can’t stop staring at your boobs…” 2007. The Sun: While the Spice Girls waited to record a second take of their BBC1 gig, Mel B yelled: “Are there any good-looking single blokes for Geri? We have to get her a boyfriend.” Emma Bunton added: “He has to have a job.” Mel C asked: “Do we care about gender this week, Geri?” 2008 Mel B: "Everybody knows that Geri and I have had our problems in the past because at one stage we were inseparable and that can never last, but having time apart and then coming back together has been incredibly healing." 2008: MuchMusic: VICTORIA: And still, if there are any single men, Geri is still single. MEL B: Or women.
Wait, the 2002 quote from Jimmy - Was he really trying to intimate that Mel B had liaisons with other group members? Wow. Anyway, I bet Emma B was one of them lol
@@Garcelle1987 Hmmm it's very vague isn't it? The way I read that quote was that Jimmy claims Mel B had intimate relations with other women besides Geri, not necessarily the other SGs. Who know what went on, though. It's a nice thought!
Wow! I had no idea! I've watched documentaries of why Geri left, and she always talked about her father's death. That event lead to a spiral of other events that made Geri self-destruct a lil bit. I always felt bad for her, since she had worked really hard to be multi-lingual, educated and so worldly. She always spoke fondly of Mel B, and Geri said she was the anchor to the connection of the group for her. I would have never guessed that was the reason. My parents would have never allowed my listening to them if the girls were open. Now I feel bad for them having to hide.
This is so gratifying to hear, if only bc people think it’s so strange for members of a girl or boy group to have member relationships - you spend SO much time with these people, it seems impossible it doesn’t happen often behind closed doors
Yeah I was thinking in kpop is so common for fans to ship the members of the group together they get called delusional or ridiculous but to think something like that actually happened in a group specially one so popular is amusing and maybe some of these ships were real but the fact she left proves what I always thought, that it would be really uncomfortable if something like this happened
@@jenlolo8902I think because in K-pop and groups in general (like 5h) it makes the actual members uncomfortable as they may genuinely just be friends and the fans have created a whole fake relationship for their own entertainment/pleasure. Lauren Jauregui from 5h opened up about this and how it made her feel uncomfortable within her own sexuality especially because she actually was bisexual and she was being cast as a sexual aggressor towards her straight friend. I think in cases where it’s real and confirmed go ahead but shipping people with no basis is problematic imo
omg so all of UK just KNEW this?! and shoutout to Sporty, she was asked thousands of times if she was a lesbian especially here in the US, I remember that as a little girl
Let’s be honest, they were the two hottest and best members of the group so frankly I find it inevitable that they would have fallen in love. I was certainly in love with both of them at age 10 😂
I’ve always been a Spice Girl fan since day one. I’m 35 now and started listening to their music again over the last year and the more i listen now the more it makes sense.
I was really crazy about the Spice Girls back in the days (i still love them), and me and a friend used to ship Mel C and Emma (god knows why), but we never ever thought of a Mel B-Geri real affair. We were evidently wrong 😅 When I came out to my family, my brother thought it was the Spice Girls' fault, hahaha. It had nothing to do with them, liking the Spice Girls was just the obvious thing to do for an adolescent lesbian. I found out about MelB-Geri some years ago and I was really surprised 😂Anyway. Thanks for the vid.😊
Did ever see the performance of Emma and Mel C duet on 2 Become one at Mel’s 40tg birthday concert about 8 years ago? It’s soooo cute. And they both sound great Check it out ruclips.net/video/TJneu6JTPp0/видео.html
The fact that Geri left because she was brokenhearted and on Mel G's birthday and Mel's face when she talked about it is so ugh 😩 is too much, I'm gonna cry in the corner, they're definitely soulmates.
I had no idea, I'm flabbergasted. Who knows how many queer relationship have been going on undercover because of this shit homophobic society we live in 😦
I've been in relationships with women for half of my life (in 50s) in NYC and in rural Hudson Valley, with numerous lesbian & gay male friends of many years. I hate to break the news, but the amount of "homophobic" people out there is so minuscule compared to the people who practically roll out a red carpet for us, or fawn because they either don't give a sh-t, or they'll do anything for a virtue signal. All the queens I know in real estate and elsewhere are treated like special creatures. They get the most business & are invited to every art & music event we have up here. As far as us girls go, the last time I experienced anything remotely "homophobic" was on the subway in 1987. My girlfriend at the time and I were on the train & a few knuckle headed bridge & tunnel guys busted our chops for holding hands; big fu-king deal... I'm so fed up with the insultingly obvious divisiveness of the media, & the current admin for pushing this narrative at every turn. It's their way of pandering for votes and pretending like they care about gay & racial minorities. People buy into it hook line & sinker, but even worse is that now the really young kids out there are desperate to align themselves with the gay community (what community its that in reality?) for *attention*. As a result; now the kids who claim to be non binary, trans or gay, in a desperate attempt to get sympathy & attention are cramming it down people's throats & NOW people ARE sick of it. I can't say I blame them. Then of course we have the schools receiving huge grants to push it on elementary school kids who shouldn't be hearing about gay OR straight sexuality yet. It's all an agenda to have them grow up in a few years (at voting age) with identity and self confidence issues, which will prime them to be life long voters of the party they mistakenly believe "cares" for them. It's all about staying in power. Even the trannies I grew up with in my 20s HATE this nonsense because it has HARMED the "gay community" more than helped. Sorry about the essay, but there are far bigger issues out there, but of course it's just one more way to distract the public. Best to you, sincerely. I'm sure that you mean well. PS. That is not to say that homophobia doesn't exist if you live in the Middle East or in a repressed, super religious community, but that applies to so few people by comparison that this whole thing is a sham.
@@lahaza6515Somebody has their eyes open! I don't condone same sex relationships, but you would never know that because I don't vocalise my beliefs to condemn others. Other people don't tend to either. Those who pretend to care about gay rights are the worst. Why would politicians care so much about people's freedom to express themselves and choice of sexuality? Because it benefits them, that's why! Have governments not shown us enough evidence on how little they think of the public!? They would do and say anything to ensure votes, and this continual running of "gay pride" puts it into people's consciousness that gays are victimised. The purpose? Because victims make the best voters. It is truly unforgivable what they are doing to children in schools. It has gone far beyond gay acceptance. I also don't know how people keep falling for the same duplicitous conmen and cannot see their true motives.
@@lahaza6515the fact that u called trans ppl the t slur discredits everything u said. Lol. Transphobe. Also that wasn’t my experience at all as a gay person. No one in my life rolled out the red carpet for me. I’ve been getting homophobia thrown at me since I was 7. Every lgbtq experience w homophobia def ain’t the same. Ofc ur ignorant self brought up the Middle East as a homophobic place instead of the south or Midwest. Homophobia is rife there. Ppl don’t tend to put lgbtq ppl on a pedestal there.
@@Miss_PANDASyou ppl who have homophobic beliefs and don’t support lgbtq are far more problematic than the ppl u say are fake supporting gay rights. Conservatives politicians are actually trying to take away lgbtq rights and have been trying to for the past year.
same💀the way I remember being a little closeted baby on the playground and *hating* their music bc it was what all the girls who chased boys obsessively liked
I work in the film industry - a friend of mine who works in the music industry dated Geri for a short time just as the first recording of the Spice Girls was underway - years before this story broke he confided to me that Geri was bi-sexual and no I won't give his name out - sorry.
It makes sense, it honest seems like she struggled with having strong feelings for Mel and wanted them to be in a true relationship (even if it was private cause it would have ruined the band otherwise). And Mel got with a guy, Geri probably didn't think it wad as serious as it was and Mel getting engaged really hurt Geri.
I am a lesbian and have been out since 1984 and I never heard this. Granted, as an adult with a busy life full of responsibilities, my attention to the detailed happenings in the music scene, even in that relating to LGB (what we called it back then) culture slid past me. Thanks for sharing!! ❤
I don’t think you missed anything - Mel B as much as I love her has always been a shit talker. She likes being provoking and stirring up drama and her words can’t be taken seriously.
yeah it was actually called GLB and then GLBT and then finally LGBT because even though trans people have been around forever (paris is burning was released in the eighties for example) it took time finding a name to unite the whole community
The way that tea spilled on spice girl fan messageboards (Anyone remember them?) in the 90’s ended up being true is both hilarious and low-key gratifying ☕️😂
The Spice Girls were my first ever favorite girl group. I was like 6, 7 years old at the height of their fame, so I never picked up on any of this then and I missed all this other stuff that came out when I got older. Thanks for talking about this, it makes me love them more lol
I so love this and so want this to be real!!! But I looked up intetviews and Mel b said they hooked up once and then Geri said it didn't happen and she slept with a girl once and decided she wasn't a lesbian. Perhaps she's lying to cover it up. The kissing eachother in concert and what Mel b's ex said is extremely compelling to point to this being true. In fact all your reasearch and points are extremely compelling. Great video btw
Oh wow, I had absolutely no idea ! But as a Lesbian who was unaware of her own sexual orientation back then (hello, comphet...), I feel kind of proud to say, in retrospect, that my "favourite singer" (aka crush!!) in that Girl Band was Mel B from Day 1. 😁
As a sapphic woman and fan of the Spice Girls since I was 3, how did I have no idea of this?! Spiceworld was my very first CD, and I would sing along to Viva Forever as a child 😅
I was a child during the Spice Girls' Empire and I owe them a lot, and I first came to know about Mel B and Geri's relationship a number of years ago. However, this is my first time reading pieces of Geri's biography and let me tell you, that Christmas extract broke my heart :(
As a 7-8 year old in the Netherlands I was a massive fan and heard the rumours much later. Our tabloids and children's magazines didn't really write much about it, if any and without speaking English the interest in it went away. To see that there are all these clips and pieces of info about it, makes my spice girls heart pound again. ❤thank you for your perspective
I remember a tabloid story where Mel B’ husband outed her bisexual status during their rocky divorce. This was before she got pregnant with Eddie Murthy’s baby. So I’m not shocked by this at all. There were pics of Mel B on a boat with other women, all half naked, and the ex hubby knew about her bisexuality-in fact, he got in on it as well. When Mel B got a little too serious with another woman, that’s when he chose to expose her to try & ruin her image & save his. Apparently he was a bit abusive & controlling so he thought he could ruin her by trashing her in the press. Sad for Gerri & the Spice Girl fans that it ended this way but also sad that they felt the need to hide who they were for a time. Be whoever you are-there’s no shame in it at all.💛
this unlocked such an old memory! one I thought I'd made up tbh💀though iirc it was a playful friendly peck or smooch wasn't it? some girl friends/sisterly friends are affectionate like that, it doesn't always denote anything titillating (even if we'd like it to)
@@pendafen7405 Exactly. Yes you're absolutely right, doesn't have to mean anything and I'm sure it doesn't. (Tell that to gay 12 year old me tho) I just never have seen it mentioned anywhere.
And what the hell, for the sake of future nosy people who eat this mess up, the 2010s: 2010. Mel B: Mel’s ex, Jimmy Gulzar, once intimated the relationship between Mel and Geri may have gone further than just friendship. Did she and Geri have an affair? ‘I’ve had affairs with all the Spice Girls as far as I’m concerned - they’re the loves of my life.’ 2010. Geri: "You know, Mel B, I have to say, she’s absolutely beautiful. But I think she’s more beautiful off camera. The camera never did her justice. She’s absolutely gorgeous. Even more gorgeous in real life." 2010. Geri: PIERS: Mel hinted there that you two stuck in the same room for too long would be not a good idea. GERI: [cocks head] The question is? PIERS: You’re never going to tell me, are you? GERI: It was an amazing feeling to have somebody that was as brave as you. That would absolutely - If I jumped off, she’d jump with me. Somebody that, she had guts, which I really, really admired. 2010. Geri: "I wasn’t needed anymore. And there was definitely friction, the way I - the relationship between Melanie and I. She knows that. And I found it increasingly difficult. An amalgamation of that and being tired, I kind of threw in the towel." [...] PIERS: Would you like it if she ever took some on the chin? GERI: No, it’s fine. No, we were just young. There’s nothing to say sorry for. We were just young. 2011. Mel B's website Q&A: Q: what ive alwwwaaays wanted to know… is it true you used to date Geri in the early days? A: i kissed all the girls and i liked it hahaha!!!! 2011. Mel B's website Q&A: Q: Did you and Geri ever have a relationship? A: i have a relationship with all the spice girls 2012. Geri: That song [Viva Forever] is about ‘I’m always going to love you. See you tomorrow. Always be mine’. You know. I’m always going to have that but actually, see you later. 2012. Mel B: I love boobs. Me and the other Spice Girls are always having a feel of each other’s - Geri came up behind me and grabbed mine the other day. 2013. Mel B: I was [bisexual] for like a hot minute back in the day. Sirius XM: Back in the Spice Girls time? Mel B: Yeah. Sirius XM: Was it a phase or? Mel B: Just a year. [...] Mel B: Oh, no, I was in a committed relationship just for a few months. But then she went a bit nuts. So then I just had to like - [...] Sirius XM: And so she scared, um, no pun intended, out of leaving bisexuality? Mel B: No, I mean, I was - I dated quite a few women throughout that year. Yeah. 2013. Geri: "Yeah, well, we’ve had our moments. First of all we were incredibly close, then we had our moments of - a little bit of a spat - and then we rebuilt that. It’s really come back stronger than ever." 2016. Gay Star News: GSN: You’re presenting with Blue’s Duncan James, an old friend of Geri’s. He once referred to her as ‘a good beard’… MEL B: Geri’s everyone’s beard. Ask her, maybe she was! 2017. Gay Star News: GSN: When I was a kid in the 90s I was convinced you and Mel B were in a relationship… GERI: Oh really?! GSN: Have you ever heard that rumor before? GERI: No. I absolutely love Melanie. She’s always going to be like a sister to me! 2017. Geri: "[Leaving the band] was a mixture of things. It’s like marriage, you know. Sometimes when you think it’s had its moment. You know, I was only young at the time. I didn’t have that skillset to kind of work through it." 2018. Mel B: I mean, we’ve had those conversations over the years, and she does just put it down to the fact that she didn’t see any way out of it, and she didn’t want to be up onstage and pretending to be so happy and having everything together. So I do understand it on a certain level, but the friendship was just… It was just horrendous for me. I had to celebrate my birthday going [makes crying noises] “Where is she?” 2018. Brutally Honest, Mel B: "I used to lie in bed unable to sleep, sad and confused, trying to work out why the hell she’d left us, why she’d never told me. The two of us were so close. From the first moment I saw her, Geri was always my girl." 2018. Mel B: THE PROJECT: Something else, you may not want to discuss it, but it certainly grabbed my attention in your book, Brutally Honest. And that is that you mentioned that you had slept with another one of the Spice Girls. You didn’t name the other Spice Girl. And we’re not asking you to name the name. But describe it. Was it a baby kind of spice? Was it more of a posh kind of spice? What was it? MEL B: I’m not telling you. That’s for me to know and for you to never find out. 2018. Mel B: There were rumours that you and Geri slept together, I say. “Do you mean have sex, or did we just sleep in a bed together?” Sex? “Let’s just say I slept in a bed with them all. Hahahahhahahaha! I don’t think I should answer that!” 2019. Mel B: I didn’t really admit anything. I just admitted, um, you know… We had a bit of a thing back in the day. And that’s it. [...] I think I said that in my interview. It wasn’t like a big deal. We’ve known each other for 20-plus years. It was just one of those things that happened one night. And I didn’t go into detail about it at all. [...] If you read my transcript, I just said it was like a little thing, and we just giggled about it the next day and that’s that. It’s not a big deal. [...] But I just texted her and said: ‘I admitted on Piers that we had a little bit of a thing but don’t worry about it, it was all kind of tongue in cheek and I didn’t go into detail.’ I said, ‘So, don’t worry about it.’ I said, ‘And this was pre your husband, pre your baby, pre one of my babies. But it’s fine.’ 2019. The Independent: "Forgive me, but who didn’t know Mel B and Ginger Spice got it on while they were in the Spice Girls (you know, apart from Mel C, who was seen sitting in Morgan’s audience, claiming to be clueless)? The sexual tension was tangible." 2019. Piers Morgan: "When the Spice Girls became the biggest pop band on the planet 20 years ago, I was editor of the Daily Mirror and, like everyone in Fleet Street, heard persistent rumours that two of them - Mel B and Geri Halliwell - were more than just good friends." [...] “I think it went on a lot longer than one night, yeah. I think they had a proper thing together for quite a while. That’s what I hear.” 2019. Danielle Brown [Mel B's sister]: When asked if she knew about Geri and Mel’s alleged sexual relationship she said: ‘I really didn’t, but I wasn’t shocked by it either. Piers is very good at what he does, he coaxed it out of her. He knew Mel’s been gay in the past so maybe he thought Geri was her girlfriend!’ Danielle also shared details of the Mel and Geri’s hook up, and explained: ‘It was just a dalliance, a silly thing…' 2019. Brutally Honest Live Show, containing footage immediately following the Piers Morgan interview: Mel B: No, I said it was back in the day. I made it very clear. [...] Mel B: I just texted her. Is this the right text? ‘I just did Piers Life Stories. I told him we had sex with a capital ’S’. Just once. Just once a long long time ago.’ [...] I didn’t say ‘sex’. What do I say? Just a one night -"
Whether this is true or not. The reason for the break up of the group, don’t think that is the reason. If those two were in some sort of loving relationship. As never really confirmed it to be true, I just think people should leave it alone. Even if they were in a lesbian relationship, I feels like we don’t need them to tell. If they don’t feels their need tell world for the people benefit. I feel like people and fans speculate too much, whether any band member of a group. Have a relationship that more a friendship, that could ruin a members friendship. Just Lauren Jauregui friendship with Camila Cabello from Fifth Harmony, but fans and people speculated too much that there were more than just friends. Which put a strain in their friendship. While Lauren a lesbian or bisexual, Camila was not which Lauren added. Same with Louis from One Direction, people and fans speculated to much. About he’s having a relationship with Harry, if anything it more like a Bromance. Nothing to do with them, being having a gay relationship. That really ruin your friendship with Harry which also, make Louis comfortable with this whole thing.
I’m not sure if I’m convinced… sometimes heterosexual female friendship can be just as turbulent as a romantic breakup. Sometimes worse b/c you tell your best friend everything sometimes more than what you’ll tell your partner. You kinda of expect there’ll be an ending to a romantic relationship divorces, boyfriends & girlfriends breakup all the time but you expect your bestie to be their no matter what. In the words of spice girls: “friendship is forever, friendship never ends.”
I remember being absolutely heartbroken when Geri left the group, my favourite Spice Girl ever but if this is actually true and more than likely it is…I’m even more heartbroken for Geri herself 😢
Finding out that viva forever is a love breaking song and i played this song so much without knowing ,i was so sad that she was so heart broken to even leave the group 😢
this affair leaked into my own personal life at the time. amongst my friends group which there was like 5 of us, a male friend and i were on the low and that definitely didnt end well. im left broken hearted and he is walking around like it never happened. all because he was afraid of what people might think. so imagine for mel and geri there is heartbreak. i actually think mel b wanted to go more public with her (mel b) and geri's relationship and geri didnt want to. so mel moved on with someone who would admit to her in the daylight that happened to be jimmy at that time. this causes the 2 girls to confront the issue of going public. and since geri wasnt willing to go public melanie moved on. this is just my theory.
I can’t blame Mel, Geri was STUNNING then! 😍❤️❤️ I was a kid when they were huge and I had a huge crush on her and a little crush on Emma but I thought Geri was so beautiful even at that age! ❤
I'm only in shock cause when they started and finished I was young so I never understood to put it together. I know now that I will notice it when I watch them . Great video. Thanks 😊
To be honest, wasn’t much of a secret growing up, everyone in the group was snogging each other left right and centre, you can even catch them kissing in interviews, on stage etc.
i really think they would’ve been end game had mel not got with the dancer, still a little confused by that because she got engaged to him as well. could she not read the room that geri clearly wanted her THAT way? i mean the romantic nights on the beach for 3 christmases? would’ve had me.😭 mel probably still seen it as a friends with benefits kinda thing, but i wish geri would’ve told her instead of just leaving and saying nothing. like mel said, they had a pact that they would tell each other if they wanted to leave but ig it was too much for geri to handle and i can see why.. i also feel like mel b’s song “Feels so Good” on her album “Hot” has something to do with their relationship. bcus the first verse makes sm sense, but that’s just a theory of mine😭 “Let's go from the very start When we met you and I were inseperable All at once we swapped our hearts Knowin that we had it right People got involved with us I should have pushed them all away Now I know what went wrong Why did it take me so long”
I believe there were rumors as early as the late 90s of a lesbian relationship. Then when we saw Mel B in a relationship with a woman years later. It was like "ok this is bring some validity to the rumors" Eventually Mel was hinting more and more. I will say as fan since childhood, Geri's reason for leaving always felt to vague. It never really made complete sense to me. All of this fills in the spaces of info that felt to be missing at the time.
this makes sense. a lot of us were Spice GIrls fans but we didn't have access to/ didn't get to watch all these interviews and stories, especially in the US. Pretty cool/interesting history!
I saw Spice Girls in Stockholm in May of 98, just a few shows before Geri quit. Glad I saw the original 5. Fun show. I was an adult and the sound of 15,000 screaming teenagers is a sound I'll never forget!
It’s funny because I didn’t grow up when the spice girls were together, but I’m still a huge fan (thanks to my older sister) and on tumblr a few years back, I found a thread with all this evidence of Mel b and Geri being a couple that fans compiled back in the day and more recently and what never fails to impress me is how fans back then, with no internet access like we have now, were able to piece this shit together. sapphics never fail to impress me w their detective skills, truly
HOW have I only just found this out from this random recommended channel for me?! I had absolutely no idea they were an item back then or that they were in any sort of relationship and I was their target audience!!! Mad 💞
I don't even dig up this stuff and I already remember coming across sapphic moments involving Geri. In one interview, Emma just randomly pulled back Geri's head and gave the latter multiple pecks on the lips while somebody else was talking. In another, the host was asking whether there were some accidental touching between the girls since they all lived together. Mel C then said that some of them had suspicions about certain members of the group while looking and smiling at Geri who's uncomfortably laughing and not knowing what to say.
Well my mind has been completely blown! As I child of 90s I was obsessed with the Spice Girls, Mel and Geri were my favs, I am also gay. So how the hell did I not know this. This is making me rethink everything I thought I know about the Spice Girls!
1997. Mel C: The others say, ‘Come on, everyone has fantasies about lesbian things,’ and I’m like, ‘Do they?’
“In fact, today I’m wearing a pair of Melanie B’s knickers.”
1997. Rolling Stone: Later, Geri and Victoria tried to drum my sexuality out of me. When I resisted, Geri attempted to use the Truman Capote self-revelation method: “I’ll say. I’m mixed. Can’t decide.”
If you’ve never tried it you don’t know if you like it or not.”
“But the question was, would you sleep with a woman?” asks Mel B. “Yes, I would. I’m pretty liberated, it doesn’t bother me. I think you are what you are. Why, are you offering?”
1997: During an “agony” session on the controversial Girlie Show, one fan tells how she is worried that a female pal fantasises about her. Grinning Geri replies: “It could be quite harmless. A lot of people have fantasies about the same sex. I have. Everyone has.”
1999. Geri: “It’s as if I’ve just left a marriage. [...] “It’s quite hard to say,” she sighs. “At the time, I said there were differences between us and there were, but they were personal. There were adult reasons why I left, but our fans are children and I didn’t want to shatter their dreams."
1999. Geri: "I loved that girl [Mel B] intensely and I think the feeling was mutual. And I think, to be frank and honest and I don’t want to patronise anybody. Without betraying our relationship, we - You know, you take it out on the ones you love the most. And we just had that, such an intense relationship."
1999. Mel B's Mum: “I don’t think [Geri]’ll be coming [to the baby shower]. The girls were just too close when Geri was in the band and Mel is still shocked at how she left."
1999. Geri: “When I left the Spice Girls it felt like a divorce, and as a result, I didn’t feel ready to have a relationship with a man."
1999. Geri: "The wedding night [between Mel B and her husband, Jimmy] I watched The Sound of Music and had a glass of wine. My mother, for once in her life, encouraged me to get drunk.”
1999. Geri: "I won’t say anything adverse about the others because there was a camaraderie, we empowered each other, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. But supposing you fell in love, had this fantastic romance - and then it went pear-shaped? I don’t know, maybe I expected too much from the relationship."
1999. Geri: "I think about them a lot. I do dream about them a lot. Yeah, I do. I dreamt about them last night. Um, it’s kind of a healing thing. It’s so much about moving on, working through like an ex-boyfriend or an ex-lover that was so much part of my life."
It's crazy how open Geri was about their relationship and it went over

I can’t believe they were able to keep it out of the media. The British media is ruthless.
They were both smart _And_ careful, but considering how much of a a pack of blood hounds the British Press are, I’m shocked and surprised they missed this.
Women can do whatever they want if they REALLY want to ;)
It's because they didn't make it their priority. These days famous people use their sexual orientation as PR
they were all the time together, they could sleep in the same room and nobody would say anything

Wow, the Spice Girls were actually more lesbian than the openly (fake) lesbian Tatu.
Right, T.A.T.U. were indeed a fake lesbian pop duo, at least the T.A.T.U. girls both also stated in interviews many years ago that they are bisexual though.
One of the girls in Tatu is apparently bi at least, the other Ive heard is a Putin supporter who says she is straight
Not really TaTu s fault, they wrte under the instruction of their management and marketed that way.
All the things she said was an absolute banger though too
Now all the things she said is stuck in my head and I'm not mad about it lol.
The women went repitrtly on record about dating girls and people are still somehow " surprised" by har doing so
It just goes to show you, when you're open and confident in your skin. No one cares. When you're trying to hide it...people will invade you.
Welcome to decades of bi erasure
As a Canadian, all I've really heard from Mel B since their prime has been:
Her thing with Eddie Murphy, her having babies & messy baby daddy drama, & the occasional talk of a Spice Girl's reunion.
No judging
RESPECT...it seems like people have forgotten what that is these days..Sad...what should matter is people raising their Children. To Love & not hate...plan pregnancies and love & nurture your child
Teach them respect & manners...some kids these days Lack the Values & Respect...whats goin on?
Same here. But I too was just a child then, so I guess it wasn’t as obvious before in my innocent eyes.
Me too.
I still haven’t forgiven her! I’m a cancer, we hold grudges forever
Everybody thought Mel C was the 🌈 because she was "Sporty"
so stereotypical XD
she did have a girlfriend for a short time during her i turn to you era
I thought she was straight AF as a kid! In fact, I thought her and Posh were literally the straightest women there (though in Mel's case, I was wrong).
I sure did 😂
This part‼️🫨🤣🔥
They were the most beautiful lesbian couple of the 90s and no one had a clue.
Omg GORGEOUS. Quite literally 2 of the most beautiful people on the planet and they were on top of the world in the 90s. What a power couple.
They were stunning ❤

It didn’t come out till recently that’s why!
Imagine if this happened now. How popular they would’ve become and how crazy people would get shipping them and writing fanfics about them 😂

@@SNOWQueen87-v1gHow many years exactly?
@@RebekahAPintosince the 90s so maybe a lil over a decade
That is why you should NEVER DATE SOMEONE AT WORK. Seriously, when it works it’s great, when it doesn’t, it’s a mess.
Lets be real they would have been so happy together, if Mel had taken the relationship seriously. Gerri loved her
I think that's what killed Geri. She loved her so much, and felt betrayed.

In ‘96 I was 12 and my gay awaking was because of Mel B, it was nothing sexual but it was enough. And when I found out about this I was like, eep my heart 😊.

@jeniferholly
Two girls together isn't gay, stupid.
We spent three Christmases together, just me and her lying on a beach."
2000. Jimmy [Mel B's ex-husband]: "She also sobbed about Geri and said, ‘We were real friends. I don’t understand why she did that to me. Why didn’t she tell me, Jim? I really trusted her.""
2000. Loaded: Let’s discuss the rumour that you and Geri have always been more than good friends…
Mel B: Sexual partners, you mean? Nah. We were the best of mates for a long time. But we never had sex.
2001. Geri: “I find women sexy. I find men sexy. I’m having a gay phase. I’ve always liked the company of gay men. I’m a gay man almost trapped in a girl’s body. I like male company but without the penis threat.”
2001. Geri: “We almost encouraged each other and that energy got very strong, kind of frightening and we thought we could do anything. Our relationship was very volatile but I have a relationship with Melanie today and I always will.”
2001. Geri: Geri’s spending spree follows her raunchy lesbian-style shows in Rome and at the London Party In The Park, where she writhed with scantily-clad girl dancers as they licked her body. Before the London show she was spotted snogging one girl before they went on stage. [...] “I am living out this lesbian fantasy on the stage.”
2001. She’s so pretty’.”
2002. Because of that you can see there is a deeper thing going on there between Geri and Melanie than only just being members of the same group."
2002. I’m just saying that they were really close with each other.”
2002. Jimmy [Mel B's ex-husband]: “Geri is not the only one she was that close with, there were others. I didn’t find it a problem because, after all, I was brought up in Amsterdam and everybody goes through their experimental phases.”
Cos she’s hot."
2003. I am being honest about what I said but that is as far as I’m going.”
She simply laughs and says, ‘You’d better ask the people who wrote about them.’
2005. Popworld: SIMON: Was there some girl on girl action? GERI: You’d - [laughs] [...]
MIQUITA: Shall I ask it? Was there any girl on girl action? GERI: [laughs]
MIQUITA: Does that feel nicer?
“When I was in the room, at any rate.”
2007. It’s always good to have options.”
2007. Pop Tarts: “We don’t fight and we don’t share clothes,” Melanie “Scary” Brown said. “And we don’t sleep together.” [...] “I mean, could you imagine waking up to this (points to Scary’s body) every day of your life?” Geri laughed. “I just can’t stop staring at your boobs…”
2007. The Sun: While the Spice Girls waited to record a second take of their BBC1 gig, Mel B yelled: “Are there any good-looking single blokes for Geri? We have to get her a boyfriend.” Emma Bunton added: “He has to have a job.” Mel C asked: “Do we care about gender this week, Geri?”
2008 Mel B: "Everybody knows that Geri and I have had our problems in the past because at one stage we were inseparable and that can never last, but having time apart and then coming back together has been incredibly healing."
2008: MuchMusic: VICTORIA: And still, if there are any single men, Geri is still single. MEL B: Or women.
Victoria in the last quote💀she was the Token Straight Friend
@@pendafen7405 I actually think Mel C was the token straight friend. Emma and Victoria have their sapphic moments too.
Lol sounds like me an my friends
To be fair I think Mel didn't want a relationship the same way Geri did given she got engaged/married a man around that time.
This is so gratifying to hear, if only bc people think it’s so strange for members of a girl or boy group to have member relationships - you spend SO much time with these people, it seems impossible it doesn’t happen often behind closed doors
That's what I'm saying. And girls tend to be very affectionate with eachother anyway
It gives new meaning to Girl Power, for sure! 🎉
omg so all of UK just KNEW this?! and shoutout to Sporty, she was asked thousands of times if she was a lesbian especially here in the US, I remember that as a little girl
Yeah in Germany too. Everyone always went on abour Sporty is the lesbian one, while Mel B and Geri were dating for years lol
This should be studied in college. World history ❤
What?!!
This explains why Geri went full on Posh mode when she married her current husband.
And sang its raining men lol
Does it explain why she accepted to be the other woman when Christian Horner was still married?
@@goduxunikeyikes! Really 😮
what does that mean, what's the tea?👀
Let’s be honest, they were the two hottest and best members of the group so frankly I find it inevitable that they would have fallen in love. I was certainly in love with both of them at age 10 😂
I’ve always been a Spice Girl fan since day one.
I’m 35 now and started listening to their music again over the last year and the more i listen now the more it makes sense.
I'm 36 🎉
Omg! I had no idea that this was information that I wanted/needed 😅. Thank youuu, def great to hear about sapphic romance all day everyday.
Sporty/Baby is a cute ship on paper though, I get it and if I were writing fic for fun that would probably be an appealing pairing😶🌫
@@pendafen7405 approved! 😁
Did ever see the performance of Emma and Mel C duet on 2 Become one at Mel’s 40tg birthday concert about 8 years ago?
It’s soooo cute. And they both sound great

“i have loved and lost. i give up. my heart is broken” that tells me everything i need to know 🏳️🌈
Now I want the see a movie about their love story
Oh, how I’ve wanted that rumor to be true since forever. 😅. Now officially confirmed- in my mind at least 🎉
Hello how are you doing today
The fact that Geri left because she was brokenhearted and on Mel G's birthday and Mel's face when she talked about it is so ugh 😩 is too much, I'm gonna cry in the corner, they're definitely soulmates.
Twin flames. I hate this so much for them
I had no idea, I'm flabbergasted.
People buy into it hook line & sinker, but even worse is that now the really young kids out there are desperate to align themselves
with the gay community (what community its that in reality?) for *attention*.

I knew two dated just didn't know which two. Thank you, this has made my DAY! I Still Love the Spice Girls.
I laugh because this makes absolute sense. All of the things I'd seen in interviews over the years that went over my head.....
Also, they really were very fruity!

I HAD NO IDEA! I was obsessed with the spice girls as a kid! I still have a ginger spice barbie in the box! Obsession reignited 😉
I was three when they broke up so I had no idea there was this very sapphic history to a massive girl group. So cute😍 and sad😢

It all makes so much sense now.😅
They really weren't subtle about it so it makes sense.
I was on a Clea Duvall message board lol
The Spice Girls were my first ever favorite girl group. I was like 6, 7 years old at the height of their fame, so I never picked up on any of this then and I missed all this other stuff that came out when I got older. Thanks for talking about this, it makes me love them more lol
Fascinating 👀 thank you for this video, i honestly didn't know any of this!
And now me making "Viva Forever" be about my straight best friend I was in love with makes a whole lot of sense.
I heard about them being together a few years ago but I never thought it was actually real!

I am an early 90's kid and I have never heard of this gay rumour. I am honestly stunned. Oh well, I still love them anyway.
Girls liking girls isn't gay, dumbass.
I was so angry when they broke up in the late 90s. Now I know the truth and its hilarious.
Well now I’m sad Mel B and Geri didn’t work out as a couple. What a shame!
Same right person wrong time. They were a great match.
Spice girls still the greatest girl group of all time. No group can compare to them. The talents and the music.
Be whoever you are-there’s no shame in it at all.💛
ot but the Viva Forever puppets always creeped me out so much

And what the hell, for the sake of future nosy people who eat this mess up, the 2010s:
2010. Mel B: Mel’s ex, Jimmy Gulzar, once intimated the relationship between Mel and Geri may have gone further than just friendship. Did she and Geri have an affair? ‘I’ve had affairs with all the Spice Girls as far as I’m concerned - they’re the loves of my life.’
2010. Geri: "You know, Mel B, I have to say, she’s absolutely beautiful. But I think she’s more beautiful off camera. The camera never did her justice. She’s absolutely gorgeous. Even more gorgeous in real life."
A: i have a relationship with all the spice girls

It’s really come back stronger than ever."
I didn’t have that skillset to kind of work through it."
2018. I had to celebrate my birthday going [makes crying noises] “Where is she?”
2018. Brutally Honest, Mel B: "I used to lie in bed unable to sleep, sad and confused, trying to work out why the hell she’d left us, why she’d never told me. The two of us were so close. From the first moment I saw her, Geri was always my girl."
I don’t think I should answer that!”
2019. But it’s fine.’
2019. The Independent: "Forgive me, but who didn’t know Mel B and Ginger Spice got it on while they were in the Spice Girls (you know, apart from Mel C, who was seen sitting in Morgan’s audience, claiming to be clueless)? The sexual tension was tangible."
2019. That’s what I hear.”
2019. Danielle Brown [Mel B's sister]: When asked if she knew about Geri and Mel’s alleged sexual relationship she said: ‘I really didn’t, but I wasn’t shocked by it either. Piers is very good at what he does, he coaxed it out of her. 2019.
“Now please leave me alone” 🫡😂
My new work email signature 😂
@@ericweis1108Great idea!! 👍
I love the Clexa art in the background!❤
No wonder Viva forever was and still is my favorite spice girls song
I remember being absolutely heartbroken when Geri left the group, my favourite Spice Girl ever but if this is actually true and more than likely it is…I’m even more heartbroken for Geri herself 😢
Finding out that viva forever is a love breaking song and i played this song so much without knowing ,i was so sad that she was so heart broken to even leave the group 😢
the astrology signs being added to the facts was why I gave this video a thumbs up. the accuracy!
Whaaaa I love this! I'm also waiting to one day hear the story about the crush on your professor :D
this affair leaked into my own personal life at the time. amongst my friends group which there was like 5 of us, a male friend and i were on the low and that definitely didnt end well. im left broken hearted and he is walking around like it never happened. all because he was afraid of what people might think. so imagine for mel and geri there is heartbreak. i actually think mel b wanted to go more public with her (mel b) and geri's relationship and geri didnt want to. so mel moved on with someone who would admit to her in the daylight that happened to be jimmy at that time. this causes the 2 girls to confront the issue of going public. and since geri wasnt willing to go public melanie moved on. this is just my theory.
Geri left the group cause Mel b was dating a guy and she got recently engaged to him it broke Geri’s heart.
I remember when I figured it out .Ginger and Mel B were my favorites didn't know they were together.
I can’t blame Mel, Geri was STUNNING then! 😍❤️❤️ I was a kid when they were huge and I had a huge crush on her and a little crush on Emma but I thought Geri was so beautiful even at that age! ❤
I'm a gay man and even i was in love with Geri. Ginger was sooo beautiful. Everything about her was iconic, face, hair, body, clothes, make up.
@@Marc-zi5cq 100%! 🥰❤️❤️❤️
@@bethysbarn And I had a crush on Mel B.
Both Geri and Mel B were proper hot!
@@Rainbow_Warrior_Princess 🥰❤️❤️❤️
I love Mel's expression at 2:55! The eyebrows!
Looool😂
I have no idea this was happening not until I see this video.
Aww how they look at each other so sweet
I'm only in shock cause when they started and finished I was young so I never understood to put it together. I know now that I will notice it when I watch them . Great video. Thanks 😊
My Gen X mind was just blown!
To be honest, wasn’t much of a secret growing up, everyone in the group was snogging each other left right and centre, you can even catch them
kissing in interviews, on stage etc.
I was just about to google the star signs so thank you for doing that for me!
OMG, I had no idea, they make such a cute couple.
i really think they would’ve been end game had mel not got with the dancer, still a little confused by that because she got engaged to him as well. could she not read the room that geri clearly wanted her THAT way? i mean the romantic nights on the beach for 3 christmases? would’ve had me.😭 mel probably still seen it as a friends with benefits kinda thing, but i wish geri would’ve told her instead of just leaving and saying nothing. like mel said, they had a pact that they would tell each other if they wanted to leave but ig it was too much for geri to handle and i can see why..
i also feel like mel b’s song “Feels so Good” on her album “Hot” has something to do with their relationship. bcus the first verse makes sm sense, but that’s just a theory of mine😭
“Let's go from the very start
When we met you and I were inseperable
All at once we swapped our hearts
Knowin that we had it right
People got involved with us
I should have pushed them all away
Now I know what went wrong
Why did it take me so long”
I believe there were rumors as early as the late 90s of a lesbian relationship.
Why did I not know about this until 2023?!?! 🤯🤯
Yes yes amazing, finally, amazing. So much drama, such a long history, so many feelings ❤
They were my two favourite Spice Girls and finding out about them being lovers made me happy but sad it ended how it did 😢❤
Wow, I was a huge fan of them growing up in the 90’s. I had zero clue but was always mad at Geri for quitting. Now I just feel bad for her. 😢
this makes sense. a lot of us were Spice GIrls fans but we didn't have access to/ didn't get to watch all these interviews and stories, especially in the US.
And here was I thinking the lesbian one was Mel C hahahaha
Girls liking girls isn't gay, dumbass.
Woah. I had no idea. Thank you for this
