I disagree, production is fantastic. It's there to keep people invested, changing the pace with crowds is proven to keep people invested. Why you see it in every production
@@Papersheepp I still see Sweden coming from starboard, they had passed by the time NZL tacked - it looks more like they crashed their tack ... oh well, sad day for Sweden :-)
Was fortunate to watch the finals in person (first exposure to America's Cup racing) and hoping to be able to be in NZL for the next Cup. Way too much to understand as a newbie so leave the armchair refereeing to others. Just some incredible footage and fun to watch.
Was he 'over the start-line before the gun? The skippers 'time' the approach to the start exactly. If 'race-official 'on-the-line' observes any part of a boat cross ahead of the gun...(boat races usually start to an 'audible-signal').
Port starboard. Kiwis had right of way. People getting confused by the mark, nothing to do with the mark and giving room. Port boat keeps clear. Lead to kiwis making an emergency gybe and losing all speed.
@@MozzySails Nope you are confusing outside boat and inside boat rule which doesnt apply. Opposite tacks, Port starboard applies, winner winner chicken dinner
Fantastic 'coverage' of groundbreaking technologies, applied to 'sport' ! The 'crew-persons' a board these craft are facing the ultimate risk. Bad things happen fast. I hope it is worth the risk. A 'wing-suit-jump' from Zermatt looks safer!
On the 2nd foul, I believe that the commentating is erroneous. It says "there is an overlap." Not so: NZ arrives in the zone on starboard, while Sweden is on port. So the rule about leaving adequate mark room (by Sweden) and about a 'seaman-like' rounding (NZ) doesn't apply. The point, I think, is that NZ had to throw in an emergency gybe to avoid collision with Sweden (or at least, that's how they sold it: whether there would, in fact, have been contact is unclear). The only possible objection is that NZ (starboard right-of-way), by overstanding the mark in order to force a port-starboard encounter, wouldn't have been sailing its 'proper course' (the course it would take to finish fastest in the absence of any other boats), since gybing at the mark (where they did) would have been its proper course--except that there's no requirement, as far as I'm aware, to sail proper course in this situation. (There are precious few situations when a boat *must* sail its proper course.)
I didn’t watch any of this first time around but it’s caught my attention since. That final penalty against artemis shows that the penalty system needs attention. Surely. It’s was never a penalty. What a shame the sport should be so spoiled by errors like these.
Not rigged, The umpires have just 20secs to make a call, and they admitted afterwards, they got this one wrong. ETNZ went on to win the rest of the regatta convincingly
The umpires admitted later that day that they got the penalty wrong. Also... if the cup was rigged, it definitely wouldn't have been rigged in New Zealand's favor! On a side note, this wasn't the cup, or the Louis Vuitton. This was the challenger series. If Artemis had won this race, it wouldn't have made any difference in the long run.
Mike B its good to know this wasn’t an important race. Thanks for pointing that out However. It’s perfectly possible for the race to have been ‘favoured’ to ‘Emirates New Zealand’. Let’s not forget they are backed by one of the wealthiest organisations on the planet. The commentators have to say ‘emirates’ before the name of the place they come from. This says a lot to me. I’m British but will be cheering for American Magic in the next cup. simply because they are not using the sponsors name first. Unlike INEOS team uk. I’d love to see our dear sport free of corporate interference.
America's Cup I wasn’t attempting to take anything away from the kiwi’s. they are hands down best sailors on the planet. They proved that enough times. However. It’s saddens me deeply that this debacle presented to us a ‘umpiring’ is allowed to so badly deface the beautiful sport we love. I sincerely hope things have improved by the next cup. Decisions have to be correct. Instantly. I’m sure the technology exists to make this happen. So lets see it next time. Btw. Thanks for posting this. Sorry for the little outburst. I just hate to see such unfairness in sport
@@ficklemedia8733 - The reality of the America's cup is that if you want to run a successful campaign, you either need corporate sponsorship or a billionaire's checkbook. Idea is that Sweden cannot block New Zealand within into two boat length circle around mark once New Zealand has entered that circle first -- but although Sweden also entered circle it did not effect New Zealand's course, so no foul.
