Racing in those little Cats was like racing Formula 1 in Go Karts. The latest American Cup boats are back to real single hull boats and faster. 100kph amazing.
@@andrejrockshox Not a pro sailor or anything, but it seems like they are constantly pumping the hydraulics that then turn the sails super quickly during the tacking (zig-zagging the boat so the net velocity is upwind, AKA "beating to windward", or downwind if the ship is not square rigged). It's a pretty clever way of leveraging human power to do something you'd typically get a motor to do!
The Kiwi team had some real cyclists who provided the power. Oracle did not have cyclists in their team. It would be interesting as grinders are not necessarily good cyclists and cyclists may be not very good at grinding. Could be a lottery.
The Americas Cup yacht race was established by the British slaver Thomas Lipton, founder and boss of the Lipton Tea company. It was he who marched hundreds of 'low caste' South Indians ('Dravidians') to work as slaves under white 'masters' on the tea estates they planted in the central hills of Sri Lanka (then ruled by the British) in the 19th century. This was after they used what are now called bioweapons ('coffee blight') to destroy the coffee plantations planted by the Dutch instead of terraced rice (paddy) fields that had fed our people for thousands of years. Dr. Rom Chakravarti (Holistic University of Gondwana).
Well, thanks for the (completely inaccurate) insight. Lipton wasn't involved until the 11th America's Cup defense. He may have been classist and racist. I haven't really explored that. He just had nothing to do with the founding of the race.
