Been here twice Nathan…on my drive, two injectors done, not had to do rocker cover seals yet, but I always buy two full injector seal kits, copper washers and o-rings , two bolts , plus a return pipe rail kit … green o- ring one…and new spring clips , so about . £50 in parts per injector replacement…on top off a injector, £200 recon, £400 plus new.👍🇮🇲ps I’m with you, tap them down , and thanks for the tip on the leak off pipes, I’ve actually cable tied mine to stop the buggers popping off …lol 😜
Nice video, Top tip if you want to change injectors on the (CAYD commercial or CAYC passenger car) at home. Try to lift the injectors first if they are jammed in, get a garage to do it. You will save yourself lots of grief. If they pop up with light pressure, crack on. Factory spec for those bolts are 2Nm then 8Nm then 270 degrees, not 180. Done 100’s of those under warranty, some other tips for people doing this: Don’t get any diesel on the belts they will strip. Replace the small spill pipe clips and O rings, two different sizes green OR orange. You may get away without a leak, but if they do, the diesel finds its way onto the timing belt and it will let go. Seen at least 5 do this. ££££££ If replacing an injector due to piezo driver failed, replace seal and copper seal of the adjacent injector you have to pull up to get the failed injector out. Clean the injector seat as best as possible, we use a special bore cleaning kit, just saves grief down the line. Input new injector code (if it has been replaced) into the ecu for smoother running.
what it really needs is a tfsi or vr6 engine swap . good video and yes, you did get lucky with that injector bolt but sometimes things work out, other times its a pita. anyway im looking forward to the new build series.
Ayyy! 200k mls C engine. Injectors for sure, DMF, DPF, EGR, HP pump... They're all gone south already. Could be a good idea measuring compression before buying into a world of pain. Otherwise sweet specs and bodywork. Probably best base for a build we have had to date on the channel. IMHO a VR6 should go in there. I saw you face when you took that white R32 Caddy out for a ride 🫵
Ah yeh... my 1.6 sounded like an old cvh with no oil all of a sudden... had a look... injector bolts worked loose... £5.12 for 2 from tps..good as new .. .will change the washers and o rings soon too tho .. ... keep up the good work Nath 👍
Because these bolts are stretch they are single use. Some workshops change 1 injector and don’t change it then it’ll snap then or later. Also must change the new injector seat copper washers in pairs each time.
Nathan now I finally know what DTE stands for "Doctor Tech Engineering". But aside from that great video on the Injector. My Caddy had 4 refurbished Injectors 6 Months before I bought it and then nr. 3 went on the way home. The seller kindly replaced it. Fingers crossed it has done nearly 40.000 km since. But I did notice that by 1 and 2 there was some diesel. I've cleaned it up and will see if that was the fuel leaker pipe. Thanks for the tip. I will do those 2 bolts for safety. Keep up the good work. Ah Yeh.
One of my bolts stripped the thread in the head and somehow bent on the way out the other day, proper mess, also the end clip is just what i wanted to hear, ah ye project on!!👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you, soon to send my 2010 1.6 tdi Octavia, for EGR repair, so might ask them to do this and put two new bolts in as you suggest at the same time.
We have a 2016 1.6 Tdi......been brilliant!Aparntley the Siemans injectors were known to fail.......it's due to the electricals.VW replaced them with Bosch ones and they are not known to fail.....I've got an engine cover to keep the damp out of the injectors.
Looks clean enough.. whats a new caddy cost now? £30,000 or £2000 a month on the never never.. Needs saving so us regular folk can pick one up and keep our kidneys.
Get in! I've been waiting for a 1.6 to arrive, I've got one myself. I had an injector leave me stuck on the M40 last winter freezing my t*ts off! Also has some other quirks 😂
I had brought one with the same issue I was lucky to the bolt came out easy enought but it had a slight rattle gave it a oil and filter change was mint
Nice job Nathan my wife got taken for over 2k for a new head as local garage would not risk removing the bolt and guarantee the work so went with recon head and new injector ffs
iv just done a touran but the bolt had snapped right down near the head had to remove cam carrier aswell it had also damaged threads in the head so had to heicoil head just because somone re used old bolts much preferer the 1.9pd engine
Had the same issue with my 1.6TDI. The planets must have aligned for me... I didn't take the rocker off, I used a Normal drill bit down the hole and it spun straight out......😅
That was a long starting. Hopefully the high pressure pump is ok. Even a second running dry could cause damage to the pump and making metal filings, destroying the injectors. Normally, you prime the fuel system using a scan tool activating the transfer pump for at least 3 minutes before starting the car
Oh mate I got a transit and because it’s not a Vw it sits hiding behind the workshop 😂 my mates transit recovery truck has also blown 2 engines before it’s hit 140k miles
Once the bolts snapped, the tension is off what's left of it, so removal isn't too hard. The key skill is being able to drill gud - it's all too easy to drill into the remains cack-ways, wander off into the ally & then you're semi-stuffed. These are a lot easier than on Vitos - those (especially cylinder 1) can be a right pita as access is rubbish. I just go buy 12 new shiny drill bits any time I have to do one of these - 6 skinnies & 6 that are just slightly skinnier than the bolt - I drill 'em, bang in a torx bit & use that to back the bolt out. Usually works fine. In fairness, that ^ bolt there's a doddle. I wouldn't even bother drilling that, I'd just weld on a nut.
Happened to my 1.6 vw touran couple of months ago, had to buy a new rocker cover 1 fuel injector pipe and injector copper washers and seals and changed the oil, cost me about £400 tightened everything to vw methods, 1000 miles later accelerating up a steep hill (my car is dsg) same side bolt snapped again!! Luckily this time around only cost me £50 including another oil change as I was worried about diesel getting in the oil! I’m wondering if there is an issue with the injector over pressuring or something? Or was I just unlucky with the new bolt? I just don’t trust the car anymore it’s only done 50000 miles too :(
When I replaced the head gasket on the 1.9 TDI, I reused the bolts. I only snapped the last bolt. So I took everything out, reused the gasket, the bolts and replaced the snapped bolt with another used bolt. No torque, just a long pipe. That 1.9 TDI is still working, 6 years later 😂😂😂
Hi I was thinking about joining the courier exchange and using a small van. Been watching your videos. Can I ask if the VW caddy is done in a LWB version and how reliable are they engine wise? Thanks mate
just wondering if you know much about the bmr 170 engine from a passat got offered engine box loom etc for a converion in my caddy to get rid of my bls(bullshit) engine its a 6 speed aswell need buckets done on the bls so cam kit wud be same price as the engine wonderimg would it be similar to your other engine swaps
Have had issues with my vw 1.6tdi since an injector failed. Ended up changing all 4 and it's still not right. Loud ticking noise on acceleration. Thinking it might be the hydraulic lifters. Would you know if these can be changed without taking camshafts out ?
Ouch that don’t sound fun. So it’s the electrode that’s holding it in. You need to get a slide hammer on it and it will pull out but I reckon the threaded part will be stuck in the head. Unfortunately might be a head swap.
I think you need injector seat cleaner reem tool about a tenner off Amazon or your going to get diesel knock, not sure you needed to cycle the ignition cos apart from the injector pipes the fuel will still be there and surely it’s high pressure pump, don’t mean to criticise too much because you’re helping people just a bit of critique that’s all and I would have liked to see more work on the engine not Timelapse but I know you just use your phone, like your vids don’t like Volkswagen though 😂😂
I had the exact same problem on my Golf 1.6TDi ,, the injector made a loud ‘ticking’ noise at hard acceleration and it drove as it was about to give up on me … also felt as the car was been shaken by wind (but there wasn’t) I took it as sign the injector is on it way out! So it been traded in!
Ah ye another great DTE build series to look forward to. Thank you also for the informative video giving good tips and tricks.
Expertise top notch and great bloke too.

There a place in Scotland Argyle diesel £350 for injector continental or Siemens

You're killing it with these videos, one of THE best RUclipsrs. Gonna be big, keep 'em coming.
Thanks mate really appreciate that 🙏👍

Luv the honesty of your videos, look forward to the build series on that van, more content, happy days,Ah Ye! 🤙🏻

New sub, loving the no bullshit honest info format. Keep it up.

Finally a 1.6 injector video lol. Appreciate it
Little tip use a centre punch as well as u say flat top massive help to get bolts out 👍
Hi Nathan another great video explaining what your doing bit by bit great job 👍🏻
Ah yeh... my 1.6 sounded like an old cvh with no oil all of a sudden... had a look... injector bolts worked loose... £5.12 for 2 from tps..good as new .. .will change the washers and o rings soon too tho .. ... keep up the good work Nath 👍

Going to be another great build series. looking forward to it. Thank You
Sponsor a caddy there not just for Christmas but u make it look so easy
It's a pleasure to watch you at work Nathan, very edmucational;-)
If the bolts is that visible that loose you can normally use tweezers or turn it with a sharp pick
Great video deffo going to change the two stretch bolts on my caddy now after seeing this

dob tech
@@adellisdevelopmen6593 Thank you must have miss heard it.
Perfect platform for a build series…. I can see some epic mods coming. 🤙🏼
One of my bolts stripped the thread in the head and somehow bent on the way out the other day, proper mess, also the end clip is just what i wanted to hear, ah ye project on!!👌🏻👌🏻
Love the video fella, got an injector to replace this week First time for everything right? CABOOM! AH YEA
Thank you, soon to send my 2010 1.6 tdi Octavia, for EGR repair, so might ask them to do this and put two new bolts in as you suggest at the same time.
Top class work 🤙

yes another caddy build mate ah yeah!! Would love to see a pd130 caddy build
Considering the chunk of that bolt and the fact that it was moving freely, all you need is a flat head screwdriver.
Nice job Nathan my wife got taken for over 2k for a new head as local garage would not risk removing the bolt and guarantee the work so went with recon head and new injector ffs
Love ur vids mate thanks
Another great tutition Nathan, bring it on Ah Ye😜👌👍
If an injector goes in the Bentley caddy then we’re changing the engine and going DSG! Just hope it isn’t soon🤣 AH YE
BKD would be my choice sam mate 👍
Great video Nathan
Great video Nathan perfect doner for an engine swap , not even sure if they did a 4 motion caddy ? But a 2.0 tdi 6 speed would be nice 👍
iv just done a touran but the bolt had snapped right down near the head had to remove cam carrier aswell it had also damaged threads in the head so had to heicoil head just because somone re used old bolts much preferer the 1.9pd engine
You could have used a dremil with a diamond slitting saw. Cut a groove and used a blade screwdriver to spin it out.
Had the same issue with my 1.6TDI.
The planets must have aligned for me... I didn't take the rocker off, I used a Normal drill bit down the hole and it spun straight out......😅

Mr Nathan the VW geezer 😊👍🏻
The 2.2 2.4 transits were the same one bolt and a clamp holding 2 injectors down, it’s like diffusing a bomb trying to tighten up but not snap haha
Oh mate I got a transit and because it’s not a Vw it sits hiding behind the workshop 😂 my mates transit recovery truck has also blown 2 engines before it’s hit 140k miles
mid week dob tech keeping me sane
Please do a cr170 conversion on it 😂 I need the step by step guide

not over the bonnet under the bonnet :D 0:53

A yea simply stick a 2.0 tfsi in it or a 1.9tdi? Nice looking van
Master @ work
I have always use a easy out for jobs like this 😂

How did you stick copper washer back
Nathan - need a computer reader for a Vw Golf 2004, Vw Tiguan 2011, Vw Transporter 2011 ?
Have you done the injector adaptations on VCDS buddy
No need, he kept the old setup. But a scan to see the current offset might have been useful to see the potential further probs
Are you going to Tfsi or VR6 it? 🤔
just wondering if you know much about the bmr 170 engine from a passat got offered engine box loom etc for a converion in my caddy to get rid of my bls(bullshit) engine its a 6 speed aswell need buckets done on the bls so cam kit wud be same price as the engine wonderimg would it be similar to your other engine swaps
Nathan your van is it painted in 2k or base and clear please
Isn't the torque spec 9 and 270°?
That's one of the problems, Autodata says 270deg VW say 180 .
Have had issues with my vw 1.6tdi since an injector failed. Ended up changing all 4 and it's still not right. Loud ticking noise on acceleration. Thinking it might be the hydraulic lifters. Would you know if these can be changed without taking camshafts out ?
Needs a new gearbox mount
Ah yeh 👍
Have u ever done a snapped glowplug in a 1.9tdi just spinning in the head
Ouch that don’t sound fun. So it’s the electrode that’s holding it in. You need to get a slide hammer on it and it will pull out but I reckon the threaded part will be stuck in the head. Unfortunately might be a head swap.
Great video fella ,my 2.5 snapped an injection bolt.
Is this caddy gonna be for sale ?
He tightened it to 7Nm and 180 degrees, and I found many places where it is tightened to 8Nm and 270 degrees, does anyone know which is more correct?
ah ye😎😎
Bad design by VAG 😮
mate r u interested touran 1.6 2011 i know its not a caddy low porwer or boost i think
What money is it bud? What’s condition is the interior. You could send me some info on the Facebook page 👍
Euro cart part try selling the injector for £1300
I had the exact same problem on my Golf 1.6TDi ,, the injector made a loud ‘ticking’ noise at hard acceleration and it drove as it was about to give up on me … also felt as the car was been shaken by wind (but there wasn’t) I took it as sign the injector is on it way out! So it been traded in!
Surprise surprise 1.6 tdi injector fucked… get rid asap
That needs a pd engine putting it
I do like the pd but I have a BKD sat waiting 😎
the 1.6 diesel vw engine is 💩... put 5 injectors in it over a year, stay well away from this engine........ get the 2.0 engine..
Oooooeeeer! New build series.... R32 replacement Nath?🤔🫢😉🙉🙈🙊
